Maris needed 8 more games than Ruth to hit his 61 home runs, thus the asterisk.

What is games?

Actually, it was very clear. The 61 represents more homers. The asterisk represents the fact that he had 8 more days to hit that extra home run.

By lack of clarity, I only meant you needed to add the above word, not that the meaning wasn't clear. *smacks head* I should have read the question more closely before I answered, though

Well, if I were in the position of editing that, I'd have replaced "had" with "needed."
