Greetings Championship Teams:

The countdown is here! With less than a week to the start of the 2004 Championship, we hope you have all gotten enough rest and are ready for some fun down south.

We anticipate this will be one of our biggest and best events ever with 295 FRC teams and 48 FLL teams competing at the Georgia Dome, and almost 20,000 people expected in total. We are also excited by new additions to this year's event, including the first annual FIRST Robotics Conference and the Robot Parade. Additionally, in answer to your requests there will be commemorative merchandise available for purchase. We are also thrilled that our friends from Autodesk will be with us again. Phil Dolan and Ted Boardman will have a booth in the Pit area and be available to talk to teams, as well as host a "Phil and Ted" show - there will be fun give-aways too!

Please read below for further details. We recommend you print a copy of this to bring it with you. Please also share pertinent information with your team, family and friends.

EVENT OVERVIEW

Safety at the Event
We are starting off the event overview with a reminder that safety is a key priority at FIRST. As always, we rely on you and your team to abide by the safety guidelines provided in the team manual to help keep the event fun and safe for everyone. Pit Admin will be patrolling the pits to ensure all teams are working under these guidelines (please remember that judges will be looking for team compliance as well.) Let's all remember the Maytag commercial where the repairman has nothing to do - and let this be our goal for the EMTs!

TIP! Remember to bring enough safety glasses for your team as well as your team's Safety Badges (new Safety Badges will not be provided at the CMP). If you are hosting an FLL team please make sure you have enough safety glasses for your team members!

Buddy System:
FIRST has worked closely with local officials to secure the safety of all event participants. As team leaders we encourage you to help in this endeavor by asking your team members to adhere to a buddy system when moving about downtown Atlanta. Please also provide each team member with key contact information such as Team Leader(s) personal contact number(s) (e.g., cell phone), Hotel number, THS number and Pit Emergency Number (THS and Pit numbers provided below.)

It is a good idea to have a daily meeting with your team to emphasize the importance of all around safety while at the event.

Location Information
Please visit the FIRST Championship Website at http://first.atlanta.net/ Here you will find great information on MARTA (additional details below), shopping, dining, Arts & Culture, and much more.

For a campus and parking map of the Georgia World Conference Center go to http://www.gwcc.com/images/gwccmap.pdf
Directions and additional site information are available on our website at http://www.usfirst.org/robotics/2004/Site_Info/2004ChampionshipSiteInfo.pdf

Fields and Pit -The fields and awards ceremonies will be in the Georgia Dome, while the Pit Area will be in the Georgia World Congress Center Building B. There will be an approximately 10 minute walk between the buildings.

TIP! Don't forget to bring a cart or wagon to transport your robot from the Pit to the competition field and back!

Agenda
The updated public agenda is now available at http://www.usfirst.org/robotics/2004/Agendas/2004ChampionshipAgenda4-7.pdf

Please read the following Special Notes:

Thursday, April 15th - The pit opening time for three (3) representative to uncrate the robots has been changed to 7:00 am. General Pit Opening is 8:30 AM. Please note this means three (3) total representatives - not 3 members plus a team leader. Thank you for your cooperation.
Load In - Load in will be down in the front of Building B. There will be event staff available to guide you from this point.
IMPORTANT: There is no loading dock access
Please make sure you have uncrated your robot and additional items as soon as you get to your pit. MCS is tasked with moving all crates off site within an 1 1/2 hour time frame as there is no on-site storage. Your assistance in a smooth removal of the crates will be most appreciated.
If you are planning to keep your crate, it must fit in your pit station. Please remember, each team has a 10x10 area into which must fit all team related items - including your team!
Registration - Once you have unloaded your crate you may send a representative to Pit Admin to register your team (this must be an adult team leader.) Please let your team know if you are going to exercise this option so other team leaders do not come to register the team at 8:30.
IMPORTANT: Registration will be by DIVISION - please make sure you know your team's division prior to coming on site. There will be signage at the Pit Admin table to guide you to the right line. Team Division information is available on our website at http://www.usfirst.org/robotics/chevents.htm and clicking on the "Team List" link.
Friday, April 16th - New Robot Parade for the Opening Ceremonies. The starting time is estimated to be 7:45 am. There will be an announcement in the Pit Friday morning confirming this time, and letting teams know where to line up. FIRST would like (2) people per team, with robot. You can either have your robot on its cart or "walk" it in. **IMPORTANT** If you choose to walk it in, your robot must be tethered. Teams will walk down the center of the arena and then back the length of the arena in front of Einstein (about 1/5 mile all together). Teams playing first on the 4 fields should put their robots on the fields and then join the parade.

Saturday, April 17th - The Wrap Celebration will include dinner and entertainment. There will be interactive games (e.g., bungee run, obstacle course, rock climbing wall, moonwalks, giant slide, radar speed pitch, etc..) Virtual Reality Games, Video Games and Carnival Style Games.

Merchandise
We are pleased to announce that FIRST has aligned with Logo Loc, LTD. in offering FIRST branded merchandise. Product will be available at the Championship in Atlanta, GA . There will be a booth outside the Pit area across from the scholarship tables featuring t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, and other various logo items. Cash and credit cards will be accepted (VISA & MC).
