i wanna program the PIC18F8520 using another programming module which is called leaper-48 universal writer (http://leap.com.tw/english/products/programmer/lp48/lp48.htm) , it supports
PIC18F248(DIP) PIC18F248(SOP) PIC18F242(DIP) PIC18F242(SOP)
PIC18F258(DIP) PIC18F258(SOP) PIC18F252(DIP) PIC18F252(SOP)
PIC18F448(DIP) PIC18F448(PLCC) PIC18F442(DIP) PIC18F442(PLCC)
PIC18F458(DIP) PIC18F458(PLCC) PIC18F452(DIP) PIC18F452(PLCC)
PIC18LF242(DIP) PIC18LF242(SOP) PIC18LF248(DIP) PIC18LF248(SOP)
PIC18LF252(DIP) PIC18LF252(SOP) PIC18LF258(DIP) PIC18LF258(SOP)
PIC18LF442(DIP) PIC18LF442(PLCC) PIC18LF448(DIP) PIC18LF448(PLCC)
PIC18LF452(DIP) PIC18LF452(PLCC) PIC18LF458(DIP) PIC18LF458(PLCC)

but not the PIC18F8520 ,,, anyone think it will work on the PIC18f8520 of the Vex ??

In theory, it should, assuming you can interface the Vex kit and the LEAPER-48:

The PIC18F8520 is the natural extension of the PIC18F452 device, providing more RAM, more I/Os, a second serial communication port (as well as more timers and CCP modules) on top of the same peripheral set. It is also upward software compatible with PIC16 and PIC17 devices with a pin-out that is functionally compatible with the PIC17C76X family of OTP devices. http://www.microchip.com/stellent/idcplg?IdcService=SS_GET_PAGE&nodeId=1335&dDocName=en010319

But, we don't completely know until you try. I say go ahead and try it, but I'm not responsible for any magic smoke. :D

Are you planning to open up the vex module, desolder the PIC, and stick it in the programmer?

Realize also that while the 8520 is very similar to other PICs that programmer does support, the pinout and packaging is completely different.

My answer is that it won't work without a significant time investment on your part.
