Do you think there will be some sort of a mesh screening around the field to prevent balls from flying into the crowd?
I know there is a limit on muzzle velocity, but a malfunction could occur. A bot may get hit and change position while shooting.

at the very first regionals, probably not (Unless the GDC has done testing and determined they're necessary) If someone gets hurt, they may put ones up for the remaining regionals, but i doubt it. They don't hurt (even when fired faster than 12 m/s) and it'd be like baseball. With everyone watching the game, I doubt they'd miss a wayward ball

The 12m/s rule is to limit ball throws to ~35 feet. At quite a few regionals, the stands are that further away then that.
No mesh.
