Greetings Teams,

We hope you have taken a look at the FIRST Scholarship web page (at www.usfirst.org/scholarships) and followed the link to the 2009 FIRST Scholarship Opportunities. Here you will find scholarship offerings from over 120 colleges, universities, corporations and associations. You can use the search capability to help find FIRST scholarships for which you are interested in applying. Please note that since we first announced the 2009 FIRST Scholarship offerings, there have been a number of changes:

New Scholarship Offerings that have been added:


* Northwestern University (IL)
* University of Minnesota/PTC (MN)
* Carnegie Mellon University/Boeing (PA)
* Lindenwood University (MO)
* Case Western Reserve University (OH)
* American Petroleum Institute-Delta Chapter (LA)

Changes to Scholarships:


* Clarkson University (NY) – Early decision applicants must submit scholarship application by December 1, regular applicants must submit by Jan 15th.
* Pace University (NY) – has reduced their scholarship amount to $5K/year, and changed the application deadline to April 1.
* Polytechnic University (NY) – has reduced their scholarship to $2K/year, however, this scholarship may now be combined with other scholarship offerings from the university.
* ITT Technical Institute – is now offering $18K (over two years) toward an associates degree at any of their 32 participating campuses located in 18 states.

Keep checking the website for new and updated information. Hint: you can sort the scholarship list by clicking on the Date Posted column header and look at any new or updated listings since the date you last visited the site

Eastern Michigan University

Eastern Michigan University will award millions in scholarship dollars this year. Our Presidential Scholarship Competition <http://emich.edu/admissions/undergrad/first_year/psc.php> - December 6 or December 13, 2008 awards our most lucrative scholarship. Sixteen students will receive the four-year full-ride Presidential Scholarship. Twenty-nine students will be awarded the Regents Gold Scholarship. All students who participate in the competition and meet the minimum qualifications are guaranteed a Regents Scholarship.

Education First Scholars Days <http://emich.edu/admissions/undergrad/first_year/efsd.php> - are designed to help high school seniors with a 3.3 or higher GPA earn new scholarships or increase an already awarded EMU scholarship. This competition is specifically designed for students who are not eligible for the Presidential Scholarship Competition. These programs will be held on November 22, 2008 and January 24, 2009.

The EMU Office of Financial Aid <http://www.emich.edu/finaid> also awards scholarships to qualifying seniors admitted by March 1 and to qualifying transfer students with at least 30 transferable credit hours.

Johnson & Wales University

Johnson & Wales University offers a variety of programs in business, hospitality, culinary arts and technology. Over 16,000 students representing 50 states and more than 89 countries are enrolled at campuses located in Rhode Island, Florida, Colorado and North Carolina.

In support of the FIRST mission, Johnson & Wales University is offering merit-based scholarships, each for $2,500, to high school seniors who have participated on a FIRST team during their junior or senior year. This scholarship may be utilized for any undergraduate course of study within the School of Technology at Johnson & Wales University. The scholarship is renewable for a total of $10,000 over four years, contingent upon maintaining good academic standing.

SME Education Foundation FIRST Robotics Scholarship

The SME Education Foundation is pleased to announce the SME Education Foundation – FIRST Robotics Scholarship. Established in 2008, scholarships are available to participants in the FIRST Robotics Competition or FIRST Tech Challenge and range between $1,000 and $5,000.

Applicants must be seeking an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering, manufacturing technology or a closely related field of study. Minimum GPA 2.0/4.0 scale.

Additional requirements for the SME-EF/FIRST scholarship and information about other SME Education Foundation scholarships can be found at www.smeef.org. Online applications are due by February 1, 2009. If you have questions or require additional assistance please email us at: foundation@sme.org.

Since 1998, the Foundation has provided over $3.5 million dollars in financial aid through its various scholarship programs. The Foundation awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors, current undergraduates and masters or doctoral degree students pursuing degrees in manufacturing and related fields at two-year and four-year colleges.

University of South Carolina

The University of South Carolina (USC) College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) have established a Dean’s Scholarship to benefit deserving students who have participated on a FIRST team for at least two years during their high school years and who would like to attend the USC. The student may enroll in any one of the six engineering or computing disciplines offered at the USC. Ten (10) FIRST Dean’s Scholarships are being offered to deserving and qualified high school seniors for the 2008-2009 FIRST Competition season.
