Our team is using 10 motors on this years bot (not including servos) and to me it seems like a lot. I'm just wondering how many motors other teams are using. How many motors is your team using?

6 motors, 2 of which may get dropped from the final robot. That, plus 2 pneumatic cylinders.

12. Our E-board is HUGE.

We are planning on 7 at the moment, it could increase up to 9 or even 10 depending on how our plans turn out.

4-6.

we're using two cims for drive, two fisher-price's for ball lifting, and two denso's for ball hearders...

plus a giant pneumatic cylinder... and accompanying compressor, air tanks and all that

4 CIM
1 FP
2 Banebots

7 total, most we've ever had on one robot.

Judging from their team members' responses to some polls on here, they're dumping.

Their robot uses compressed Win. Not air.

Only 3 so far that I know of, but I'm sure that will change to a higher number of course.
We are keeping it simple this year though, so it probably won't increase by THAT much.

We have 2 CIMs for drive and 2 for shooting
a Fisher Price for a intake roller
a window motor to move balls up
a FP to load the shooter
4 motors for the shooter

so a total of 9

:D

It's looking 7 for us. Possibly a servo to add for 8.

we are using 8

3 CIMs (2 for the drive), 1 Globe

And yet our robot can pick up from the floor, get balls from the human player, aim with a turret, and shoot with a flywheel. How did we do all that with 2 motors, I wonder? :P

Yeah, it's in a similar product family as Pure Win Extract. ;)

I see that 6 people have responded with 12+ motors...could you folks share some of your design? I would be extremely interested in hearing what 12 motors are capable of !

As many as we have the last three years combined.

4 CIMs: Each drives a wheel of the Crab
2 Globes: One for steering each "set" of crab modules
2 ND motors: One for each of two of our ball moving belts
1 Keyang: Controls our main moving belt
2 FP: Drives the shooter wheels
1 BB motor: This one's seekrit. ;)

It seems your conveyor is severely underpowered, and your drive is severely overpowered.

We'll have 6 on the machine.

2 CIMs for drive, 2 FP for conveying and 2 CIMs for scoring. All of the gearboxes are the same.

All Dewalts? or all AM planetaries?

As it sits 5. I doubt we will add more but the motors may change.

2 CIMS
1 FP-With KOP Trans
1 Globe
1 BB

The Goble Might be switched out for another BB but who knows......

All Dewalts? or all AM planetaries?

The CIMs plug in to the gearbox directly. The FPs are passing through AM Planetary gearboxes first.

we are useiong 10 I think

2 fp w/AM planetaries for drive
4 cims for something I'm not telling:cool:
and four other small motors for something I'm not telling:cool:
(I'm not sure on these I've been sick and haven't been to the past few meetings)

It seems your conveyor is severely underpowered, and your drive is severely overpowered.

It would seem that way, if one didn't know about all the fancy things our drive base will do. Trust me, it needs that much headroom in drive power.

At this point, 15 motors. What are they capable of? Adding a LOT of weight:)

You've made it abundantly clear what your drive could do elsewhere, I still stand by my statement that your drive is "overpowered", as in, using far more power (regardless of how it's used) than required to be competitive. I also still think the conveyors are underpowered (they may move, but slow I imagine).

You can use up to the number of window motors that came in the 2009 kit and no more. Specifically that would be 2 Nippon-Denso motors (1 Right-hand and 1 left-hand) and 1 Keyang motor.

Wow, I'm getting the impression that my team's robot is overly simple:

2 CIMs for drive
1 CIM for conveyor belt
1 globe for the dumper.

Well, I guess its just fewer things that can go wrong...

With regards to how people can have 12 - I can see it.

4 drive motors for crab.
2 motors for steering crab.
2 motors for pickup system.
1 for Pan turret.
1 for Tilt turrent.
2 for ball shooter.

We have 9 motors on our bot.
