In the "You know you've overdosed..." thread, it looks a lot like people have rewritten music to be about FIRST. I figured a thread where everyone shares them would be interesting.

Buddy you're a boy
Make a big noise
Working in the shop
Gonna take on the world someday!

You got grease in your face
You're no disgrace
Spinnin' those gears all over the place

WE WILL WE WILL BOT YOU
WE WILL WE WILL BOT YOU

Buddy you're a young man
Loud man
Shoutin' in the stands
Gonna take on the world someday!

You got blue on your face
You're no disgrace
Waving your banner all over the place

WE WILL WE WILL BOT YOU
WE WILL WE WILL BOT YOU

Buddy you're an old man
Wise man
Workin' in the world
Gonna mentor your team some day

You got kids in your place
You're no disgrace
Gonna make a difference to the human race!

WE WILL WE WILL BOT YOU
WE WILL WE WILL BOT YOU

Oh, well imagine
As I'm pacing the edge of a school corridor and
I can't help but to hear
No I can't help but to hear an exchanging of words

"What a beautiful robot! What a beautiful robot!" says a freshman to a lead
"Yes but what a shame, what a shame that our robot doesn't work."

I chimed in with a "Haven't you people ever heard of
Closing the *thud thud* crate? No!
It's much better to face these kinds of things
With a sense of poise and rationality!"

I chime in, "Haven't you people ever heard of
Closing the *thud thud* crate? No!
It's much better to face these kinds of things
With a sense of,

Oh, well in fact!
Well now look at it this way, I mean
Technically the season is through!
This calls for a toast, so
Pour the root beer, pour the root beer!

Oh, well in fact!
Well now look at it this way, I mean
Technically the season is through!
This calls for a toast, so
Pour the root beer!"

With a sense of poise and rationality!"
Again

I chime in, "Haven't you people ever heard of
Closing the *thud thud* crate? No!
It's much better to face these kinds of things
With a sense of poise and rationality!"

I chime in, "Haven't you people ever heard of
Closing the *thud thud* crate? No!
It's much better to face these kinds of things

Again

You would not believe your eyes
I know that it sounds unwise
Just six weeks and all too soon it ends

It may seem a bit unfair
With such little time to spare
But we're having fun
Working without a care

I'd like to make myself believe
That soon the bot will be done
It's hard to say I'd rather go
To school than FRC
But everything is never as it seems

'Cause we make a thousand parts
To finish the robot's heart
As I try to tell it what to do

But quickly our time flies by
So quick that we can't ask why
Don't stop to talk, the robot's due!

I'd like to make myself believe
That soon the bot will be done
It's hard to say I'd rather go
To school than FRC
But everything is never as it seems
When I'm a geek!

Just one more thing then I'll get some sleep
(Don't take me away from here)
I can almost hear my teammates weep
(Don't take me away from here)
My reasoning might seem a little weak
(Don't take me away from here)
What can I say, I'm just a geek

There's two thousand teams around
And each year, just three are crowned
The victors of the game with skills abound

And though we will soon be gone
Our team knows that they'll move on
We'll mentor them before very long

I'd like to make myself believe
That soon the bot will be done
It's hard to say I'd rather go
To school than FRC
But everything is never as it seems
When I'm a geek!

I'd like to make myself believe
That soon the bot will be done
It's hard to say I'd rather go
To school than FRC
But everything is never as it seems
When I'm a geek!

I'd like to make myself believe
That soon the bot will be done
It's hard to say I'd rather go
To school than FRC
I always want to be here with my team...

(Apparently there's already a FIRST version of Fireflies, but I've never seen it?)

Who's got "Read it!" ? ? ? ?

Don't even need a hat,
Just get out your Acrobat
and READ IT!

I'm just surprised FIRST hadn't written an FRC version of Little Eva's song for Kickoff (which I couldn't get out of my head when that hint came out):

Come on robot, do the Robo-Motion!

I'm rather hoping someone will make a "Y-M-C-A" type dance for the Timeouts that involve forming the three logo shapes. "Triangle! Circle! Square!" rolls off the tongue so nicely....

These are great! Although I think mountain dew is more accurate than root beer for most teams. :P

The original version my team wrote had lots of inside references, but here's an edited "genericized" version I just did

First weekend of January, so it’s a new year
Kickoff morning comes, its finally here
The manual’s been released, its always unclear
So read it, just read it

Weight limits loom, often 120 pounds
Don’t wanna cheat the rules, go make your grandmas proud
Inspectors will find every mistake to be found
So read it, just read it

Just read it, read it,
Decrypt with the code and read it
Too many pages, and 10 more each year
But read all the rules, before mounting gears
Just read it, read it
Just read it, read it
Just read it, read it
Just read it, read it

Are Vics allowed, what are the limits of CAN?
What motors can we use, what must the bumpers span?
There's playing size limits, and compliance to plan
So beat it, just beat it

At regionals, you need to play safe and fair
Questions need to go to FIRST for answers
What they said on CD won't help you when you get there
So read it, (but you wanna build fast)

Just read it, read it,
Set aside a day and read it
Too many pages, and 10 more each year
But read all the rules, before mounting gears

Just read it, read it,
Sit down with your team and read it
Too many pages, and 10 more each year
But read all the rules, before mounting gears

~~and so on

With apologies to Michael Jackson :)

Darn, there's no way to edit it.
I've actually been unhappy with I Build Bots for a while, so I revised it a bit. Originally I chose root beer because it fit the meter, but the song's so hectic that I think Dew fits in well if I put it this way. Also, trying to censor the swear works when you have a heavy thud in its place, not when you're singing along to the karaoke version. Revised version:

Oh, well imagine
As I'm pacing the side of a school corridor and
I can't help but to hear
No I can't help but to hear an exchanging of words

"What a beautiful robot! What a beautiful robot!" says a freshman to a lead
"Yes but what a shame, what a shame that our robot doesn't work."

I chimed in with a "Haven't you people ever heard of
Closing the robo-crate? No!
It's much better to face these kinds of things
With a sense of poise and rationality!"

I chime in, "Haven't you people ever heard of
Closing the robo-crate? No!
It's much better to face these kinds of things
With a sense of,

Oh, well in fact!
Well now look at it this way, I mean
Technically the season is through!
This calls for a toast, so
Pour the mountain,

Oh! Well in fact!
Well now look at it this way, I mean
Technically the season is through!
This calls for a toast, so
Pour the mountain, pour the mountain dew."

With a sense of poise and rationality!"
Again

I chime in, "Haven't you people ever heard of
Closing the robo-crate? No!
It's much better to face these kinds of things
With a sense of poise and rationality!"

I chime in, "Haven't you people ever heard of
Closing the robo-crate? No!
It's much better to face these kinds of things
With a sense of poise and rationality!"
Again

I'm trying to choose another song now...

here is my shot
Imagine there is no FIRST
its easy if you try
no future engineers
no game for nerds to play
imagine all the students
learning to destroy

Imagine theres more coopertition
gracoius professionals too
more fun to better ourselves
and sweet medals too
imagine all the students
changing the world for good

You may say that Dean's a dreamer
But He's not the only one
We hope someday you will join us
And the world will work as one

Imagine us as together
i wonder if you can
no need for team numbers
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the students
working as just one

You may say that Dean's a dreamer
But He's not the only one
We hope someday you will join us
And the world will work as one

Here is something we wrote for the 2008 Chesapeake Regional

We can't wait to see you and all our "rowdy" friends in Annapolis for the Chesapeake Regional. :)

... with apologies to Hank!

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FIRST!!!

Well it's Friday morning and we're ready to rock!
Time to get all the hurdles, the laps and the blocks.
It's the Chesapeake regional that's comin' your way.
The Robobees, TJ2, Mort, Hawaiian Kids and the GaCo are ready to play.
We gotta get ready, we gotta go live,
Cause the Chesapeake regional kicks off, so let’s drive!

So get ready. I mean, get ready.
Are you ready for some FIRST?! An Overdrive party!

We've got Dean and Woodie and Dave.
They've gotten it all kick started.
Jenny, George and the crew's all set. The crowd is psyched.
Cause all our rowdy friends are back in Annapolis tonight!

All of these are great.

I particularly like the nod to Imagine.

You may say that Dean's a dreamer
But He's not the only one
We hope someday you will join us
And the world will work as one

That is beautiful, Fireball.
Thank you for that.

Here's something I came up with a few days ago. It is inspired by "The Trees" by Rush

Tetrix
There is unrest in the forum,
There is trouble with Tetrix,
For the Many want to use Vex
And GC ignores their clicks.

The trouble with the Many,
(And they're quite convinced they're right)
They say the GC is just too lofty
And they make the game a blight.
But the GC can't help its feelings
If it likes what it went with
And they wonder why the Many
Can't be happy with their kit.

There is trouble in the forum,
And the Indifferent all have fled,
As the Many scream "Oppression!"
And the GC just shakes its head

So the Many posted a thread
And demanded different rules
The GC is just too greedy;
They force minibot mules.
Now there's no more competition,
Rules were changed by Game Design,
And the bots are all kept equal
By jigsaw, mass, and size.

My latest effort, "Gears and Metal," sung to Black and Yellow

Yeah. Uh Huh, You know what you like
Gears and metal, gears and metal, gears and metal, gears and metal
Yeah. Uh Huh, You know what you like
Gears and metal, gears and metal, gears and metal, gears and metal
Yeah. Uh Huh, you know what you like
Everything I build, I prototype
Yeah. Uh Huh, six weeks that nothing
What we put on the bot, that’s sumthin
You see the people, on my team, they aligning chains
(gears and metal, gears and metal, gears and metal, gears and metal)
We workin’ hard, build robots, gonna play this game with
(gears and metal, gears and metal, gears and metal, gears and metal)

Gear train
Metal base
The school scared, of it, but it ain’t no waste
Soon as the closet open up, you see a green crate
Look around, see a bunch of boxes and some old paint
Take ‘em outside, the mills roaring
And the bandsaws, all cutting Lexan for it
And we got the ‘lectric going hectic
Got your victors all installed, I’ve got the motors all selected
Hear it’s 5 o clock, but we’ll stay another hour
Just got it driving, gotta drive it with more power
Shifting, go to fast for a fast start.
Low Weight, Andymarks

Yeah. Uh Huh, you know what you like
Everything I build, I prototype
Yeah. Uh Huh, six weeks that nothing
What we put on the bot, that’s sumthin
You see the people on my team, they aligning chains
(gears and metal, gears and metal, gears and metal, gears and metal)
We workin’ hard, build robots, gonna play this game with
(gears and metal, gears and metal, gears and metal, gears and metal)

Got a post on Chief Delphi, this just in
Drivetrains better done with 6 wheels, dropped, with 4 CIMs
Not a mecanum, but try west coast now
Its cantilevered, logomotion rules allow
The robot, follow
The lines for auto scoring
So many lines and subVIs I can tell where the post is
Got a pocket full of zip ties
Loctite up, mount the bumpers to the four side mounts

Design like I’m supposed to do
With CAD, prototypes of wood, PVC, and glue
And the Pit looking so approachable
Super clean, but a nice machine
The scouts all come to ask
“how well, how fast?”
We’ll show, our game in our match, run laps
Go back and repair, re-charge and re-do taps
Beatty 02 feel, make new rules to lessen the gap

Yeah, you know what you like

Yeah, you know what you like

(Y'all already know what you like, it's FIRST, it's hard as hell)

You see the people on my team, they aligning chains
(gears and metal, gears and metal, gears and metal, gears and metal)
We workin’ hard, build robots, gonna play this game with
(gears and metal, gears and metal, gears and metal, gears and metal)
Yeah. Uh Huh, you know what you like
Everything I build, I prototype
Yeah. Uh Huh, six weeks that nothing
What we put on the bot, that’s sumthin

(gears and metal, gears and metal, gears and metal, gears and metal)
