2012 Web Hug

We're going to try something different this year for the Web Hug. I got this via e-mail from my dad about what's happening this year as far as an official CD webhug:

Quote:
Stop by the pit of Team 51 - say hi and sign the WEB HUG registry... you never know what you may get. I have 200 copies of Solidworks to give away.....first come first serve. There may be other giveaways, too.

Re: 2012 Web Hug

I'll miss the traditional webhug - the point was to meet and greet people you've never seen, and stopping by the 51 pits won't accomplish that.

On the other hand, Mike Martus' time isn't something I want to impinge upon. The webhug takes a time and effort to set up, and it's completely understandable to modify things.

Maybe we all agree to meet there at Noon Friday?

Re: 2012 Web Hug

I have never made it to the traditional web hub. Always had some kind of volunteer duty keeping me busy.

But I will definitely stop by the Wings of Fire pit. Plenty of awesome sauce is always simmering there.

I believe in intuition and inspiration. Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution. It is, strictly speaking, a real factor in scientific research.

#OccupyWingsOfFire? Sounds interesting. If we do that then hopefully all of the genius concentrated in one 10x10 area would rub off onto me...

Jokes aside, I'll be sure to stop by Wings of Fire's pit. Is there a day that is preferred for people showing up, or would any day (Wednesday-Saturday) be alright?

Re: 2012 Web Hug

I remember going to Team 47's pit, either in 2000 or 2001, and there was a board set up, get your picture taken and put on the board. I don't remember if that was the year before the webhug, or the first year of the webhug.

Thanks Cynette, forgot about that.

Um, OK, how about Thursday during Dinner?
Hmm, maybe inviting a hundred CD folks to a 10x10 pit all at the same time might not be a good idea.

OK, here's my plan:

1. Print out my CD "banner" (the top of my post showing my name, etc.) and make it into a name badge, and wear it all the time

2. Bring a WAI photo, about 3" square, to post somewhere in Team 51's pit to prove I was there...

Dinner? You mean Thursday Night Qualification Matches?

I think he was referring to the 45 minute break from 6:00pm to 6:45pm. That should be enough time.

roboprom starts at 7:00 Thursday at the Hyatt. Where should we meet for dinner?

Meeting and Greeting people from Chiefdelphi.com is the reason I pay hundreds of dollars to attend the World Championship. Yes, the main reason I go is to volunteer for an organization that I have the opportunity to Inspire students, But I go to World Championship Event over a 3rd regional to meet thousands more people that share that same goal. The Webhug has always been a staple of my Championship experience, and I appreciate all of the effort team 47/51 has put into organizing it for all of these years.

Well, most people will still be in the pits/arena since qualification matches resume afterwards at 6:45, so it would probably be best to meet somewhere within the venue. If it runs from 6 to 6:30, those going to Roboprom (assuming it is still that time even with the change in FIRST schedule) will probably be able to get there in time.

"the times, they are a-changin'" - my theme song for this year.

I'll be busy with a Senior Mentor dinner on Thursday night - I'm sad to be missing the group web hug, but I'll be visiting as many volunteers and mentors/coaches as I can as part of the "Spririt of FIRST" program - (look for us in our red, white and blue tie-dyed shirts!). If you spot me be sure to say hello...
