SmartDashboard Widgets

I have been searching the forums for a while now and cannot for the life of me find a complete guide on how to build smartdashboard widgets. There are some mentions of it in the WPI cookbook, but nothing that covers the subject very in depth. All I've been able to gain is that they are made in a separate jar file and implement a lot of the swing libraries. I'm eager to start making one, but I just do not know where to start. Could someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks very much for this. I would not have thought to look into the firstforge wiki.

I will have fun.
