No way! And i thought my friend was pulling my leg when he said he saw you. Mythbusters is famous at our school because it's used in EVERY SINGLE PHYSICS UNIT to demonstrate something. It's really awsome. Any chance of getting Scottie involved? I know a lot of teams would love to have a metalworking expert helping them.

Re: Mythbusters try out VEX Robotics

Now the real question is how do we turn this connection into a segment on Mythbusters dedicated to FIRST. Perhaps such a thing has happened already though not to my knowledge. In true Dean Kamen fashion of always asking for more we expect a full Mythbuster's camera crew at the next FIRST Regional Let's see perhaps we can bust, or I guess confirm, the myth "can 30 high school students build a robot out of this kit of parts in six weeks or less."

Ha ha! Thanks for the warm welcome. You can all visit my MySpace page also. I use it to keep tabs on my students (as it seems they're all addicted to it). It can be found at:

Sorry, Scottie left before I joined the show, so I have no way of contacting her...

Has anyone before Grant ever earned three green reputation boxes from his first TWO posts? FIRST loves robot heroes.

I read the posts about Scottie above, but she's not the local favorite here. The boys on our team have created little personal shrines to Kari. How does she feel about high school guys who can use power tools?

Any chance any (or all) of the mythbusters' crew could speak at the Championships (Next year. this year is probably already booked)?

Something similar has happened to high-level FIRSTers, Morrella and Aidan are perfect examples; I would imagine if Lori had stuck around into the Era of Rep something similar would have happened there. You can sort by rep in the Members section and then look for outliers.

Welcome to Chief, Grant! Although, looking at your sign on date, you have been here for a while, and were just holding out on us. Knowing that people like you are involved and excited by the same things that we are definitely helps to solidify our efforts, and makes our job a whole lot easier.

I haven't been very "fangirl" at anything FIRST-related in a very long time, but I would personally just like to see more of Deadblow. Can you bring it to an event?

He's up to seven bars now. I wonder if Grant is getting paid the standard $2,000 per bar?

Hmmmm. An episode of Mythbusters where they determine if you can really build a FIRST robot that can survive a water game!!!!

Re: Mythbusters try out VEX Robotics

I'm a 33 year old programmer and DB admin. I came across the botmag.com article on my website (my site grabs rss feeds on new technology). I love this stuff and had no idea that Vex existed. After I read the article I ran to the local RadioShack and practically cleaned them out (over $550 worth of Vex stuff).

Some more google searches led me to these forums. I'd also never heard of FIRST. It's great to see these competitions are going on at the high-school level. I always thought it was just a few of the college engineering schools that had competitions like this. Anyway, I'll keep lurking around here to pick up some pointers as I design with my new Vex kit.

I hope more people like me saw that article and raided their local RadioShack. Now that I know about it I'd really be disappointed if RS started pulling it from the shelves.

I hope you bought all that after the 50% off sale! Otherwise, you could have gotten twice as much!
