I think that is part of the excitement. No one knows what all of the other teams have done and what their presentations will be like. It is always great to hear what teams have been up to and the creative ways of being FIRST.

Re: 2008 National Chairman's Award: Who will be THE ONE?

My bets are on Team Hammond (team 71) winning it this year, you know what they say never bet against Beatty. Their presence in FIRST is unmistakably huge, and were the first truly dominant team in FIRST inspiring so many with their on the field, and off the field accomplishments. I am almost surprised they haven't won in yet and think its Hammond's turn this year.

Now thats not to say that every team on the list this year isn't deserving, I really don't know enough about half those teams to make a true educated guess. As much as I would like to see 1114 and all they do for FIRST in Canada get recognized, my guess is that FIRST hasn't reached the point where they will give the award to a 'relatively' young international team. Good luck to everyone, and I hope the chairmans interviews go well!

Re: 2008 National Chairman's Award: Who will be THE ONE?

It would really help this discussion if all the Chairman's Award winners would post their chairman's essay here or somewhere all in one place for everyone to review. Then people could make a better guess.....Does anybody have any Ideas on how this can be done. I personally would really like to see them all. It would be a kick!! We posted ours on CD the day it was due. Maybe teams can post there?

Re: 2008 National Chairman's Award: Who will be THE ONE?

That is a good point and I'm sure everyone would love to see what everyone else has done, however, are you really going to read 410,000 characters...Good luck.

As everyone has said there's really no sure way to tell who'll take it because we can't see everyone's presentations before hand. I would love it if RUSH got it, but I know there's that team out there that no one in the FIRST community knows incredibly well, that does remarkable things. It'll be them

But of course my money is on a big name team...71, 234, 1114 (there's a ton more) Good luck to everyone, see you in Atlanta.

Yeah..I would think that would be cool too. But I also think there is something about the excitement that Chris talks about here that would be defeated if every team's presentation was open to the public.

Re: 2008 National Chairman's Award: Who will be THE ONE?

I think winning a Regional Chairman's Award 6 times at the same regional competition (5 years in a row, I believe, too!) says a lot about a team. And it's not like the Connecticut Regional doesn't have a lot of very strong, fantastic and old teams.

The technotics do a lot to support Engineers without borders, and FLL teams. They really reach out to the community-engineering and not. I think the chairman's award is becoming more about what teams are doing to reach out to the younger generations in FIRST, and I think 236 is a fine example of a team doing just that.

for more information, check out their blog/website thing at http://www.team236.org/

Another thing you may want to consider is the Championship Rookie All-Star award. (maybe another thread?) I know there's a great contender coming from Boston, team 2423 out of Watertown, MA

I would read it....... and then I would be able to make a somewhat better guess than basing it on the teams I personally know. I would welcome the knowledge that I and my team could gain from fantastic teams. You still can't predict what the judges are going to do, there would still be the surprise. If any team wants to share, I'm all ears... or should I say eyes....410,000 characters!

ps How come FIRST does not post the Chairman's submissions for the regional winners. It would also be great for all teams to review to get them to follow the role model teams. Isn't that why they win Chairman's in the first place, because they are role models for others.

Re: 2008 National Chairman's Award: Who will be THE ONE?

Whoever wins will be extremely deserving. Teams that don't win all have aspects which are also extremely deserving.

I know the Chairman's presentations will occur for all Regional CA winners on Friday. As you all are in the midst of practicing on Thursday, take an hour and drop on by the FIRST Robotics Conference session on the Chairman's Award. While there will be a segment on preparing your submission (many of you know very well how to do this), there will also be a really neat and unique panel with representatives from the past 5 Chairman's Award Championship teams. Come ask questions to key people involved with the Chairman's Award for teams 103-Cybersonics, 254-Cheesy Poofs, 67-HOT, 111-WildStang, and 365-MOE.

Best of luck to all Regional Chairman's Award winners in Atlanta!

Team 16 is collecting information from the 2008 RCA winners for our "Future Hall of Fame" display in our HOF booth. Please see thread here http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=66451

If you are a 2008 RCA winner and have not yet submitted your information to us, you can send it to rcawinners@baxterbombsquad.com

All you speculators out there can come see the display and educate your guesses...we are enjoying a sneak peek

There was honourable mention in 2006 but there wasn't one last year in 2007, as far as I can tell.

Correct, there were no honorable mentions last year. Some people speculated the judges awards were used in place of the honorable mentions, though.

Of the teams that won chairmans award this year, 71 won a judges award last year. 842 won an honorable mention in 2006 (365 won both an honorable mention and the Engineering Inspiration award that year). In 2005, 341 was a honorable mention and 842 won Engineering inspiration
