where we go we will have to fly...no doubt about it...now...fromt he teams taht have done this before...
how do you go about getting your robot back home so that you can have some time to fix/debug/whatever
it after competition?
anyone have any good ideas?

The team I was on for the past 3 years no matter where they went has
shipped the robot back to the school through the same shipping co that
they used to get it there. There have been companies at the NH and CT
regionals in the past, but last year they had one of there sponsors do
shipping in the machine shop truck.

Our team has a lockable box for the robot.

A competitor team locks the box with a combination lock that we do not know the combination to.

They fax the combo to FIRST and we get it at the competition from FIRST (though you should always have the phone number of the locking team handy just in case FIRST can't find it on Thurs. morning!)

Using this method, we can drive our robot to the various competitions. It takes a dedicated 'drive team' to give up 24 hours each way to FL or TX or ??? but we think that it is worth it.

By the way, you must clear this method of getting the robot 'out of your hands' with FIRST BEFORE you actually do it. FIRST is flexible, but they need to OK things up front rather than after the fact.

Hmmm...I like the idea...but being in TX we have the logistical problems of the next closest competition is at least
1000 miles away...I'd drive it...but i'm not sure my parents would go for that one...

Maybe we can sucker some devoted team parents into doing it...

but it is at least an idea...thanks

Tom

Mileages:
Houston to San Fransisco : 1945
Houston to Chicago : 1085
Houston to Miami : 1190 (i dunno where KSC is...but i assume its around there..)

feel sorry for us yet?...and just think of the poor folks in california...you spoiled people in michigan...
