BattleCry STAR 2012

Will the Battlecry STAR award be given out at BattleCry@WPI 13 this year? If so what is the deadline for the submission and whom do we email it to? I just wanted to confirm.

Re: BattleCry STAR 2012

Much like the prestigious Woodie Flowers Award, the BattleCry Special Team Appreciation & Recognition (STAR) Award is an opportunity for students to nominate an outstanding adult mentor on their team to be recognized for their contributions and dedication.

Each BC Challenger team may write a short statement (500 words or less) about their mentor and submit it electronically to stafford at wpi dot edu

Deadline for submissions is 8-May. All submissions will be reviewed by past BattleCry STAR winners and an honoree will be selected from the group. The students will be notified by 14-May if their submission was chosen and offered the opportunity to publicly announce their champion during the awards ceremony.

For those of you who don't know the story of how the BattleCry STAR began... The tradition was started at the inaugural BattleCry@WPI in 2000, when the students of FRC190 honored their mentor Ken Stafford (for his contributions to the team and the creation of BC) by presenting him with an engraved Leatherman. Ken was so honored by the recognition that he created the BattleCry STAR award so other teams could have the opportunity to recognize their mentors during the awards ceremony. While the creation of the Woodie Flowers Finalist Award in 2004 gave more teams the chance to have their mentors recognized, the BC STAR is yet another way to thank your mentors for their contributions. (But now, 13 years later, Ken has joined the ranks of WFFA winners also!)

Some Past Winners Include:
Ken Stafford (190)
Dave Kelso (131)
Al Mothersele (177)
Dave Senecal (140)
Andy Grady (126)
Bruce Hockaday (173)
Dan LaRochelle (40)
Gordon Morrison (228)
Nick Galotti (1735)
