Here is our latest design. It ran the entire season without maintenance except lubing.

Let me know if you use it.

I plan on having copies at Riverrage and Bash@the Beach and we can show the complete layout in the robot.

Unread Woohoo!!!!!

Andy,

This design is excellent. Many teams have tried to design systems that tie the CIM and Bosch motors together, and they now just need to pull up your white paper instead of "re-inventing the wheel". This is a very thorough, excellent design.

Kudos to you and team 716 for publishing this design!

FIRST teams,

This is the type of print package you can take to a machine shop or just hand out details to your fabrication crew on your FIRST team.

Sincerely,
Andy B.

When placing spaces between the gear centers, do I simply take the pitch dia. and use that or do I add some kind of spacing so that the gears aren't smashed together?

I suggest you to Dave (Sanddrag) on your team, since he asked this exact question two days ago.

I included a discussion on calculating center distances in my dual speed paper. It is rather wordy but it should cover what you are looking for.

There have also been several threads discussing using theoretical or increased center distances. A quick search will give you lots of opinion.

Good Luck!

Team 980, the ThunderBots, from S. California are using this design for 2004.

We were second seed in Arizona and won in S. California.

Thanks Andy and Team 716 for posting this design.

(We do a wheelie onto the lower platform, thanks to the acceleration we get from this gear box and the fact that we have a tall arm.)
