1662 test tranny

This is our summer project this year. So far all the shafts are made out of aluminum and none of the gears have been machined. We are just making templates before we make them out of steel. I will continue to post pictures of our progress.

Looks nice. just a sugestion for you try using hex shaft. It makes it easy to fix if something breaks and holds the gear better than a key-way. A hex broach can be purchased from McMaster or Small parts for about $100. But it is worth every penny. Team 397 has used it every year since 2002 on anything that we can, even plastic inserts to drive a pvc tube.

Agreed, although we don't have a hex broach, it is really an awesome method to transfer torque between gears and shafts. (Wheels too if you're into live axles)
