So, after looking over the rules we couldn't find out rather or not it is legal to take the LED's from our components, and move them to the outside of our chassis for troubleshooting.

[R58] The control system is designed to allow wireless control of the Robots. The Driver Station software, FirstTouch I/O module, cRIO, speed controllers, relay modules, wireless bridge, and batteries shall not be tampered with, modified, or adjusted in any way (tampering includes drilling, cutting, machining, gluing, rewiring, disassembling, etc.), with the following exceptions:

If it's the former, then you might try using some cheap fiber optic cabling you see in light-up toys to run the light to the outside of the chassis.

I kind of like the fibre optic idea, I don't think we'll worry about it though. It's really more of a cosmetic thing.
