We are using a cRIO II, with the serial to can bridge selected, and whenever we attempt to load any code that has can available, we get this error message:
-1073807246
Description:
VISA: (Hex 0xBFFF0072) The resource is valid, but VISA cannot currently access it.
It is complaining that the serial port can't be opened, but the question is why and how do we fix this?
Attempted fixes / Useful debugging info:
I can run the Jags through BDC-com.
Run example code (Same error occurs.)

In order to use the serial port to send CAN commands, you have to make sure nothing else is using the serial port. That means you need to verify that the CONSOLE OUT switch on the cRIO is OFF. I assume you told the Imaging Tool that you were using the appropriate CAN Driver Plugin?

And no we didn't. I'll have to check that out tomorrow! Does the Net Console come out through the Serial port?

Does the Net Console come out through the Serial port?
No, it comes out through an Ethernet connection to the NetConsole application on a host PC.

My question sounds like a weird question, but what other "console" comes out through the serial port?

That's what I thought. Just checking...

There is a serial console available. It is controlled by the Console Out DIP switch (virtual on the cRIO-FRC II). You need to turn it off to use the black jaguar bridge plugin.

And I have confirmed that the console switch has been turned off (In fact, the imaging software will not let you image it with the can to serial bridge enabled), and the problem still exists.

I solved it. I just reimaged the cRIO (making sure the console switch was turned off), and that appeared to fix it and now it worked.
I was having a similar issue as described above, after re-imaging the cRIO-II, I noticed that the console out option had been automatically switched to the ON position, I changed it back to OFF, hit apply and now I am in business. Hope this helps someone in the future!
