is the team design for the bridges the same as in competiion?

We can't get are bridges we made out of wood to act the same as in the competition, as in the battery test (put two batteries 28" away they balance then 30" they don't) we can get it to work but we had to add 100lbs to each side which we don't think is right is it because it is made of wood and the real one is made with metal?:]
