Hello all,

I am new to using Wind River, but I have been having some problems installing it. First, I installed it on Windows 7 64Bit on my old computer. Everything was working fine. I was able to deploy code. However, when I tried to install on my new computer, I installed it exactly the same way. However, when I am trying to add the connection to the robot so that I could deploy code, Wind River gives me the following errors:

Error launching Wind River Registry on localhost.
'Launching and connecting to Wind River Debug Server (DFW) Backend...' has encountered a problem

When I open the Wind River Registry itself, it displays the following:
Wind River Registry initializing ... Error: Unable to register wtxregd with portmap service.
com.windriver.tm.core
org.eclipse.core.runtime.OperationCanceledExceptio n: Error launching Wind River Registry on localhost
Possible cause:
Timeout connecting to Wind River Registry after launching it. Please try "Refresh" on the Registry node later.

I have never seen this error before, and I could not find any solutions to it. Please help, because I need to be able to deploy code.

In addition, I have tried copying C:/WindRiver folder from my old computer to my new one. That created the propper connection, but as soon as I tried to connect to the robot, it gave me the same errors.

Any help is appreciated.

Is there an antivirus program running that might be interfering with the WindRiver tools? I don't know how its Registry is implemented; might a Windows firewall be getting in the way?

I specifically disabled my antivirus and firewall. Still getting the same error. I installed all Wind River updates as well, so that is not the problem.

Check the target definition or try deleting the target and redefining it making sure following the example in the "Getting Started" guide.

The problem is that when I right click to add a new connection, it does not display the "WindRiver VxWorks 6.x Target Server Connection."

After you installed it, did you also run the C++ update (http://firstforge.wpi.edu/sf/frs/do/listReleases/projects.wpilib/frs.2012_update_for_c)?

Yes, a new update came out on 02/04/2012, and I installed that as well. I have an older laptop on which I also installed Wind River. Both are 64bit. On that older laptop, Wind River works perfectly For now, I guess I will have to continue using that laptop. :( If anyone knows a solution, please reply.

Hi Vadman,

I did experience what you encountered. On my notebook, I have Tornado Registry earlier as I am still using VxWorks version 5 for development. Lately I installed version 6, and the same problem came to me as what you experienced. I later shutdown my Tornado Registry and the Wind River Register started to work.

I am not sure if this will help. Good luck!

IIRC, the FIRST downloader plugin connects independently. You should still be able to deploy code without a connection in workbench.
