We decided to withhold our shooter this year. Week 5 we had a functional practice bot up, this is Tartarus.

Official release video once the shooter and programming is done.
This year was a really important year to have a practice bot for us.
Interesting...at the beginning, what was causing the "slipping" of the balls? Was it just lack of compression?

At the end of the video you can see our device to compress and un-compress the balls against our polychord conveyer. The operator kept flipping the switch back and forth.

That's a neat metering system. Do you count the balls as you bring them into the robot as well, so that the back knows when to close?

No, everything is manual, however the tower will only hold 3 balls. If our shooter is running and another ball is fed into the tower when we already are holding 3, the top ball gets shot out.

We have a very similar pneumatic driven "backboard" on our intake system that allows us to hold balls. Have you had any problems with balls jamming, and if so, how did you overcome them?

We have not had any problems jamming yet. I would just make sure that your conveyer only has room for one ball to come through it at a time and make sure that your "backboard" only tilts out just a little. We have about a 5 degree difference between closed and opened on ours.
