FRC1323 will be aggregating webcasts at http://madstream.team1323.com
We ran this in the offseason for some California events, and are currently updating the UI. The new version will be up before next week!

2200's service has relocated to here: http://watchfirstnow.com/ .
As for the Smoky Mountains Regional, I know the event is being streamed. I've been told they will post the link at a time closer to the event.

We used to always webcast the NJ Regional, so we'll probably do the two districts we're going to: Rutgers and Mt. Olive (and MAR Champs if we qualify). I'll double-check and get back to you.

Larry, is that going to be the actual webcast (right there on the facebook page), or will it contain info on how to get to the webcast, when we get closer to the event? FLR is March 8-10, for those who don't know. Right now, that link doesn't show or explain anything about a webcast.
I already have friends, and team families who can't attend, asking me about TV and webcasting, so I'd like to be able to refer them to something like this. Thanks!

I believe you all also worked on the VA Regional cast the last 2 years. I don't know if VAR has anyone doing it this year; it probably is something I should have asked our resident VAFIRST board member yesterday.

Can we please coordinate this using this wiki page?
http://www.firstwiki.net/index.php/2012_Webcasting_%26_Archiving#Who_is_Archiving_Wha t.3F
It's super important we coordinate this and get as much coverage as possible. 2011 was a record for incomplete regional archiving, and I'm afraid we'll just keep slumping if people aren't coordinated and realize the urgency of the situation.

Let me know if I need to work Colorado for you if no one else steps up. I don't have anything to record with out here but I assume you all can hook me up.
I'll be running the pit, herding cats, and dealing with my rookie team (did they tell you about my new split personality issue? It has hit new levels.) but it may be able to be done.

I'm going to second what greg said here. I won't be available this weekend but I will try to archive some events this season to help out, I urge others to do the same. It sucks to only have 1 archived match of us from the last two years on TBA. CD has the man power to do better than we did last year.

Definitely. Once again, here's the Wikipage for webcasting & archiving. The process might look daunting but it's actually really easy and cheap to setup. The more we simplify the process and have more people be aware of it, the more likely someone will step up and volunteer.

i'm not positive about kc, but once the ustream ones are up, they for sure have an iphone app, and i believe an android one as well
it wouldn't be pretty per say, but for KC if you could remote connect to your home PC and stream through that, it would work. I can't remember the app name off the top of my head, but I know there is more than one choice on the itunes store
yeah, GKC is streaming through a windows media player connection. Maybe windows/android phones can do it, but AFAIK iOS devices cannot.

The biggest thing all of these seem to be missing is some sort of archival system, especially one that indexes the individual matches. The webcast for the San Diego Regional last year, I haven't checked it out this year, did this and it was great, but the sever was a little overloaded. I think FIRST in Michigan has come up with the best solution, all of the matches are uploaded to YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/FIRSTinMichigan) shortly after each match.
Also, it would be really nice if the first post was used as a running summery of this thread, it would make it a lot easier for people to find links to the webcasts they want to watch.

Yes, this would be nice. However, I asked a similar question in the thread that is trying to capture pictures of all of the robots (all of the regionals). The problem is, after about a day or so you can no longer edit your posts. Therefore this is almost impossible to do...
...I wish there was a way around this.

That is very unfortunate. Is there anything a Mod can do about this, like add exceptions for certain posts/threads?
That is very unfortunate. Is there anything a Mod can do about this, like add exceptions for certain posts/threads?
Mods can edit/delete posts after a user cannot. However, I don't think that the exception for certain posts would be feasible (how many posts are there in a given day?); threads only slightly more feasible. I don't know much of anything about vBulletin coding, however, so I don't know for sure.
Also, this sort of exception-adding would probably be at a webmaster level instead of a moderator level. That's where posting this suggestion in the Forum Support subforum or dropping Brandon Martus a PM would be the best route.
In case you're thinking that I'm a moderator, I'm not. Some things you just pick up after being a forum member for too long.

Looks like WatchFirstNow got banned from UStream for copyright infringement - I assume ustream auto-detected FIRST's stream of background music and thought they were re-streaming it.

Brandon,
All you need to do is get in contact with the Event coordinator and they should be able to provide you with an A/V feed as well as an internet connection. I recommend emailing that person today. Additionally, going to nasa may be a good idea for streaming; I have been using them for years for both flash based streams and windows media based.
Good Luck!

The Lake Superior stream keeps cutting off for me.
What stream are you using for the Lake Superior regional? All the ones I find have a broken link to mms://sargasso-3.arc.nasa.gov/deluthregional (mms://sargasso-3.arc.nasa.gov/chesapeakeregional) (and yes, someone spelled Duluth wrong, but fixing it doesn't make a difference).

That webcast is fantastic—instead of dead air, there's a view of what's going on at field level, with enough sound to make it interesting. And the interview segments are well done.
Having the team names and numbers at the bottom of the screen also helps with recognition of all the rookies, and helps for interpretation of unfamiliar team names.

I have no idea what technical issues are involved or who is actually responsible, but can whoever that is please try to in general increase the crowd volume on webcasts? The crowd is a huge part of the FRC environment, and on most webcasts you can barely hear them!

FRC webcasts are recorded and broadcast from the A/V booth and represent the same images and sound that are displayed on the big screen and the loudspeakers at the event. Any and all crowd noise you hear is bleed over from an open microphone.

Any and all crowd noise you hear is bleed over from an open microphone.I thought about that, then reasoned "well, I can hear the crowd a little bit, so there has to be a microphone somewhere"... I forgot that the crowd is sometimes so loud that you can hear it through the announcer's mic :D
Still, I think that real crowd noise would help not only streaming, but for any potential TV (like the Michigan championships last year)... maybe the cameras in the stands can have microphones? I don't know much about this stuff, and I'm sure it's showing...

While the realism would make it more fun, I think there will be times when being able to hear the crowd won't be as helpful, especially depending on who it sitting around the camera. Maybe a microphone directed toward the crowd, but in the field area would work....

Sometimes when I watch multiple webcasts at the same time, I double check to make sure I don't have YMCA on repeat in the background. Serious deja-vu.
Don't get me started on Saturday evening, where every regional plays "We are the Champions".
Is there a set regional playlist, or is it just always the classics?
