Do we need the e-stop button this year?

We are remaking our driver station and are wondering if the e-stop button from the 2011 kit is still required for the driver station.

No. You use the spacebar for the estop when not on a field. On an official FIRST field, there is a large red mushroom button.

A team supplied Emergency Stop has never been required for the Driver Station. It's not even allowed.
The field supplies the E-stop and it doesn't connect to your driver station. It's fastened down to the playing field player stations.
