View Full Version : FRC Miner - From FRC 2337
Hey everyone! I know a busy weekend is coming up, and I want to introduce a project I've been working on. Hopefully it'll keep you up to speed with all the excitement this weekend.
http://www.frcminer.team2337.com
FRC Miner is a site that will graphically display data supplied by FIRST for an event. Hopefully the landing page is pretty straight forward, but it supplies many different options, such as the ability to display the total data for a team for the entire event, the average data for a team for the entire event, and a match overview sheet (also having the option to average).
This system is not an attempt to replace full scouting. The data, taken from FIRST's website, is taken on a match-by-match basis, not team-by-team. This means team scores will be affected by their partners; however, FRC Miner offers a quick way for people who may not do full scouting or may not be at the event to have an overview of which teams are pulling forward in what areas
FRC Miner offers sorted total graphs, hybrid graphs, teleop graphs, bridge graphs, and in case of the match overview page, a red vs blue match overview graph.
I can't wait for it to get a test run this weekend. Please feel free to send me a direct message or reply in this thread with any issues/bugs you may experience, and suggestions for improvements that can be made. Keep in mind, it is still in a beta phase.
Good luck to everyone this weekend, and enjoy FRC Miner

Zach, everything you do for scouting is amazing; thanks for adding this great resource and good luck at MSC.

Wow, looks awesome! This would be a great feature to have as a part of The Blue Alliance, if you are interested in contributing (https://github.com/gregmarra/the-blue-alliance). :D
This is beautiful. Thank you so much.

This is really cool and brings new information to the table. I suppose the next logical step would to have to calculate OPR based on those various statistics (Hybrid OPR, Teleop OPR, Bridge OPR, etc...) I know that OPR isn't a valid measure this year, but those specific ones can be useful.
Think something is a little skewed -- picking "Las Vegas" gets North Carolina!
Other than that, way cool. :-)

Thanks for the feedback! Sorry about the typo - that will get fixed - but until then, remember you can enter event codes manually to get to the data you need! Las Vegas is available at http://www.frcminer.team2337.com/nv/.

This is nifty. Any chance at building a version that does the same thing, but with OPR or another metric?
Nice job guys! In the future, I'd suggest using The FIRST Alliance's (http://thefirstalliance.org) API to get this data. If you want we can walk you through the process of getting the data you're using.
Nice work!

Wow! A cool, useful, and professionally done tool for reviewing tournaments. Thanks Zach O!
Very nice! Great idea to make infographics out of the raw data!
I hope others will follow your lead.

Whoops. Thank you for pointing it out for me!
Thanks for the suggestions. I can look into doing OPR after this weekend.
Zach,
This is really neat stuff. Keep up the great work!

If you have any questions as you are implementing OPR, you can ask me. I helped with the implementation of OPR for TBA.
The code for TBA that performs the OPR calculations is at:

Awesome work!
Is there a plan to make this opensource?

There is no current plans to open source the project. But I haven't put much thought into it. I'm not going to throw out the possibility.
I recommend, if people haven't, check out the data for GL and PA, now that we've got some data coming in. In Michigan, we've only played 4 matches, but you can start to see who's pulling ahead.
Spoiler, the mobile version isn't working very well currently. It'll be fixed after MSC.

Do you also take second order dominance into consideration for your OPR?
FRC Miner doesn't calculate OPR. Discussions for this year is better located in the current thread http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=114450&highlight=miner

I keep getting application error. Is there any add-on's I need to add to firefox or is it miner itself?

Again, check the current thread for this year http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=114450&highlight=miner
The site has moved domains, and is now at frcminer.com

Any reason the Northern Lights data isn't showing?
One more time - questions relating to 2013 should be posted in the 2013 thread. http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=114450
