Does anyone know if we have the full 10'x10' for pits or if the size is reduced to around 8'x8'?

The 5 times I've been to Championships they have been 10'x10'x10'.

There is easily enough room for 10 x 10 pits in St Louis, and I've never been to a championship with pits smaller than that.

expect 10x10x10 but be able to go 8x8x10 if (for who knows what reason) chaps has to shrink pit size.

For example, a tornado the week before Championship might make half the convention center unavailable.

Barring any disasters (natural or otherwise...) there should be enough room for all teams to have a 10x10x10 pit. There was enough room for the 352 teams with 10x10x10 pits, 2 competition fields, and accompanying stands (which I might add weren't sufficient. Not to mention the Jr. FLL, FLL, and FTC pits, or the 2 full practice fields, inspection station, sponsor booths, and scholarship row.

Since all 4 competition fields are going to be in the dome this year, the extra 48 teams (4800 square feet of floor space) should be able to fit.

No sign of a pit map for this year? I was trying to remember how buried (or not) it was last year. Maybe my brain fog factor has expanded after wading through 1114's competition data sheet, so I cannot see the forest for the trees.

It still says coming soon (http://www.usfirst.org/community/volunteers/volunteer-at-first-championship)

Guys,
Any speculation you have on pit size will be rendered false when you see the pit layout. Remember that St. Louis is nowhere near the layout of Atlanta where FTC and FLL pits were not included in FRC, Hall of Fame was in the big space we all called Lobby, and colleges and vendors also had space elsewhere. We might not have the two playing fields this year but we will have other things occupying the space including another 30-50 teams (or more, yikes!)

In case y'all forgot how it was laid out last year (http://www.usfirst.org/uploadedFiles/Robotics_Programs/FRC/Events/2011/2011_FIRST%20CHAMPIONSHIP_Load_in.pdf) (minus the team numbers)

With the amount of teams this year I would definitely make sure you can go down to 8x8. Our pit has extensions that we can put in so it can go from 8x8 up to a little under 10 x 10. I'm more concerned about space in the aisle. Hopefully it won't get too crowded there.

You mean again?
Actually, again again.
We had Atlanta almost blown away by an errant tornado 2 (3?) years ago, and then the St Louis airport was briefly out of commission for a few days last year.

We're like tornado magnets. :ahh:

No worries. No pit size listed, though. (Ok, maybe some worries)

Something we noticed is that for some reason our pit was an extra 2 feet wide. We also noticed this in the team across from us. This was where ours was marked off, and we measured the pits next to us and they were both the standard 10 feet wide.

We will. But we didn't notice until midday Thursday, and it would have been too much work for everyone around us to get rid of our extra 2 feet because we were right in the middle.

Well, our pit was "10x10", but the curtains took away from that. We had to take the curtain rod out of the pole in the back and zip tie it to out pit structure. Good thing we were on a corner.

Our crew chief called it the best looking pit in the place.

You mean the StL airport was your fault, Don? :yikes: My wife was there, trying to get home when that tornado hit. She ended up taking a bus to get to a train to get a taxi to get to the airport in Chicago to fly to Buffalo, so I could drive an hour each way to bring her home to Rochester a day and half late. I've always been happy when she comes home, but never as much as that day.
