Looks like a nice lineup on the Curie Division next week.

I expect 233, 254, 341, 987, 1477, and 1986 will offer some great competition. Good luck to all the teams!

This is the year we break the Curie curse!!! ;)

I can't wait to analyze all of the great teams in this division. Curie feels like home being our third year landing here in a row. Looking forward to hooking up with old friends and making some new ones.

We've got some new mechanical and programming tricks to reveal at champs too. Might see if we can kick out a little video early next week.

So this is how I see it playing out...

254, 341, 971, and 987 all come in as pretty well known favorites, so they'll have a bit of a target on them from other teams. Teams will Look Forward to playing with them and dread facing off against them, though they can pretty much count on Co-op points in those matches.

There are a few other teams in this division that can put up big points. Among them are 1477, 1986, and 624. Texas Torque and CRyptonite have teamed up twice now with great success, only losing in the Lone Star finals thanks to 1477's cRIO leaving them idle both matches. Both of these teams have been practicing with 118 down at NASA, with 1477 and 118 having developed a very reliable system for triple balancing (each has a stinger and brakes) - without the drivers talking to each other. 1986 has one of the most reliable bridge mechanisms I've seen out there and an incredibly accurate shooter. Expect them to start drawing more attention as well.

I'm not knowledgeable enough about teams 3098, 233, 1507, 27, 51, or 2474 this year to say all that much about them, but they're here and did well at regionals, which tells me they'll probably be doing quite well.

It will be interesting to see how alliance selection will turn out, since almost any team with hopes for Einstein will be looking for a triple balance. This may mean some long robots will be passed over for wide-oriented machines. However, there are some long teams out there that can still manage the triple. Teams like 254, 624, 971, 987, and 1477 aren't going to just allow something like that to limit their robots.

This looks like one of the more exciting divisions to watch. I can see a lot of different outcomes, which isn't something I can say so much about the other three divisions. This will be the one I'm watching closest. Knowing Championships, most of my predictions will be laughably far off, so it'll be fun!

StuyPulse is super pumped to be on Curie. It looks like a really great division that will have some really fun qualification matches and very interesting alliance selections.

We look forward to seeing some old friends and making some new ones. I think a big part of the Curie curse is that there doesn't seem to be any awesome chant for it like GALI-LEO. We should use this thread to come up with a good one.

I'm the driver from rookie team 3940, and I would like to introduce you to our high-performing robot and team.

At the Boilermaker Regional we won Rookie Inspiration, were the third overall pick, and were a finalist.

At the Queen City Regional we were the 9th overall pick, received Rookie All-Star and won with teams 45 and 781. In order to win Queen City, we had to beat the number one alliance then the 1024-71-3494 alliance, then the 48-3193-1038 alliance. We would keep up with these high-performing teams in ball points and then beat them by balancing.

We are a wide drive base, 22 inches long, perfect for being in the middle of a triple balance, which we did multiple times in the Queen City finals. We're getting much better at balancing, and are practicing a lot.

Our shooter is very accurate, and flings the ball catapult-style, so the new balls in the finals don't affect us. In the finals at Queen City, we had an 88% shooting percentage, making 30 for 34 balls. We only shoot from the key and we aim for the top basket.

We can shoot 2 for 2 in hybrid mode, and can even receive balls from another robot to shoot more.

We have a strong bridge manipulator and have good traction on the bridge so we can push another robot as well as go on the bridge first to balance.

Although we are only 22 inches long, we have never tipped over in a match since our CG is incredibly low, mainly due to about 20 pounds of added weights in our base.

We have an all rookie drive team, including a rookie mentor coach, but we are prepared well by our other veteran mentors.

Here's a link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qxx9C4MvRs&feature=relmfu) of one of our finals matches from Queen City. We are the tall purple robot on red alliance.

We are excited to make new friends and have fun on Curie!

2914 is excited to be in such illustrious company, and we are looking to bring some hellacious D and bridge work to Curie. We spent the VCU regional chasing and sorting bugs, from bad CIMs to bad Jags, then rumbled through the DC regional to win it with the help of some good shooting robots.

Simple was our main design priority this year, and with four degrees of freedom we met that design criteria. A fast and consistent static bridge manipulator was the hardest feature for us to develop, but really defines our robot. Come stop by our pit, check out The Bubble, and say hi!

See you in St Louis!

Our division will be the most competitive of all i think. 706 had shooting issues at our only regional, but with the issues resolved, we plan to give top teams a run for that first seed :D feel free to stop by our pits. Data mining is fun! (Or a problem if you ask my wife)

42 regional wins in Curie this year, from 31 teams.
There were 132 participation in elimination alliances.
341 has a guady 64-5-1 record, but 987 went undefeated at two events for a 32-0 mark. Is there another team out there still undefeated?
Repeats? We have 12 teams that paired up for regional wins.
192 and 3419 teamed up to win at Chesapeake
1985 and 1986 teamed up to win in St Louis
971 and 1678 won in Sacramento
624 and 1477 won Bayou
233 and 341 won in Boston
987 and 2844 won in Las Vegas
254 and 971 won Silicon Valley
1507 and 3951 won Finger Lakes
Will any of these teams pair up again?

1319 has been close three times, advancing to the finals at Smoky Mountains, Palmetto and Peachtree but was unable to seal the deal and win. Will they break through in St Louis?

Of the 14 rookies in Curie, 5 (3929, 3940, 3951, 4161, 4226) won a regional, a further 4 saw elimination action.

Multiple wins
341 won Hatboro-Horsham, Chestnut Hill, MARC, Boston
233 won in Orlando and Boston
971 won SVR and Sacramento
987 won LA and Los Begas
1477 won Alamo and Bayou
1507 won Finger Lakes and Buckeye
1986 won St Louis and Greater Kansas City

Hey Curie,
You guys are SUPER lucky..... You guys have probably one of the best FTA's on your field as your FTAA. He (along with the great field crew) was able to start MSC 12 min late and get it up to running 30 min ahead. So he took a break for Dean to speak, and still got the schedule to ended 2 min early. To bad his partner in crime can't make it..... MI teams don't forget to give him a hard time :-)

Up Next!, FRC Team 3528[B] is both humbled and honored to be a part of the Curie field in our 2nd trip across the state of Missouri to St. Louis. We are excited to play again with familiar faces such as [B]1986 and 525 as well as meeting new teams from across the country.

Our scissor-lift/dumping robot impressed the judges in both GKC and OKC by winning the Engineering Excellence & Creativity in Design awards. We can quickly pick up three balls and score 2 pt baskets from the fender or the side. Our 100% hybrid performance in GKC helped seed us as the #2 seed behind 1986 during week #1. In OKC we were the #1 seed and won the regional with some great alliance partners. You can see highlights from our performance in GKC http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCJqXsE4w64 We improved our ball gathering conveyor between GKC and OKC to be at least two times faster than what you see here.

We never had the opportunity to practice a triple balance during competition, but our driver is experienced in balancing the bridge and we hope to get the opportunity to try a few triples next weekend.

We look forward to seeing everyone in less than a week. Look for us in the pink shirts (but don't confuse us with the Pink Team). We are..Up Next!

Can't wait for the matches to begin!!

Here's a look at 461's new and improved robot:

Six wheel tank drive. 4 CIM's. Great pushing power and traction.

We can cross the bump.

We can tip the bridge down from behind, or push the bridge up from the front for someone else to get on.

Yes, we are a long base robot, but we have a center wheel drop and an extremely low and back CoG. Thus, we can hang about 17 inches off of the bridge, and still be soundly situated on 4 wheels. See our quadruple balance at 45's practice field here (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/photos/37887) for more dynamics.

We are very willing to balance on the scoring bridge or co-op bridge, and can do both effectively and quickly.

Our shooting was about average at our two competitions, but at DC we discovered we had a Jaguar that was shorting. We have since fixed this and just yesterday we made 21 teleop-style three-point shots in a row without missing. We use a microsoft live webcam that we stripped of the IR filters and added a filter to only allow IR, and a beagle board off-board processing to not lag down the cRIO/processing (im not a programmer so my nomenclature could be wrong). This leaves us with an IR-based super accurate turreting shooter that won't be affected by outside lights or colors.

We have a lot of experienced mentors, ranging from previous members of our team to programmers studying currently at Purdue University to the Senior Mentor of Indiana FIRST as our lead mentor. We are very well known for always having a part someone needs, so if you break down in qualifications/eliminations, we're there to give you stuff. We even bring pneumatics even though we don't have any on our robot.

I (the strategist of the team) will also talk to all 5 teams before every match in qual's, so you can also guarantee a vast knowledge of our opponents and their game plans.

Good luck to everyone!

624 has won all its games except for when a catastrophic d/c occurs. We lost once because of our own d/c and twice from team 1477 unfortunate d/c when facing 359 and 118 leaving us at (30-3-0) from bayou and lonestar.

While it is fun to speculate about who will win and which teams will align, it is just that, SPECULATION. Nobody truly knows what it going to happen, but it sure is fun to guess. As technically minded people we love to extrapolate data, but don’t forget that FIRST is also a sport. A sport filled with stories of underdog victories and heroic acts. There is not a single team in Curie, Archimedes, Newton, or Galileo that is just going to roll over.

As I read everyone’s posts, I am reminded of what my son said to me after the 2008 season. It was his rookie season and I asked him what impressed him most about FIRST. He said, that FIRST made him realize how, “TEAMWORK CAN OVERCOME AMAZING ODDS”. I know I will be reminding my team about this fact, as they take to the field on Thursday.
Best wishes to everyone that is traveling to St. Louis.

Team 58, The Riot Crew will be there with our robot Betty White the Pelican Terminator. We won the BAE Granite State regional along with our alliance partners team 131 and team 1831.

Our robot Betty has a 100% accurate autonomous mode capable of scoring from either side of the key or the center. Our mecanum drive train allows us to easily get in position for scoring and our retractable 5th wheel easily allows us to balance the bridge. It also prevents us from getting pushed around. Our mecanum drive train also allows us to easily be the middle bot in a triple balance. Our arm allows us to score 3 balls 99.9% of time. Our new and improved bridge arm allows us to cross the bridges with no problem.

For more information on Betty visit riotcrew.org (http://riotcrew.org)

Certainly possible. We had relatively little trouble doing it with 1323 and 3309 on the practice field at CVR. Us and 1323 hung off the edges. We have a brake which makes it easier. Both of us were able to hang a substantial amount off the edge.

Seems like trying it with stingers on each of the bots on the edge will make the balance happen a lot more easily and robots flipping will be a lot less likely.

It's going to be difficult to test the triple balance combinations with the practice field setup at championship.

One with a stinger and both with brakes would make it much easier. we had both, but 1323 had to take their dingus off due to weight.

I would quantify the amount of our robot that hangs off of the edge of the bridge as quite a bit. Would be interesting to see if 2 long bots that hang off the edge could balance together like say 987 and 694.

I am pretty sure it can be done 2337 3098 548 tripled in a practice match easily and 2337 and 548 are long

is there brakes on it so you dont fall off.

It's ok Clint, I don't get him either now. Just spoke to Rob he said he's been moved to Archimedes. I guess we both miss out on him!:(

Bahahahaha! We get him on Archimedes! And by we, I mean the volunteers cause 33 is on Galileo. You guys get a good Seconday FTA too though! And should harass him as if he was Rob. :)

Ok i was wondering is 624 long or wide and also 987 the highrollers how is there weight distributed? Thanks for everyones info

624 is long. We have a fairly balanced weight distribution with most of our weight on the center of the bot (except that our battery is off-center).

And just for kicks...1986 & 624 were together last year to win CO. I suspect the bus company still hasn't gotten all of that green spray color out of their headrests.... :) Looking forward to seeing you & a bunch of other old friends next week.

Loved playing with y'all last year! Lots of memories of the green hair spray cloud we created over Denver with you guys... We're also looking forward to seeing you again on Curie.

Best of luck to all teams! Looks like it really will be quite the field... So many possible strong alliances...

Here we go:

This balance happened about 4 seconds after 2337 made contact with 3098.

Team 207 has flown in way under the radar for Rebound Rumble, and it's time to change that up a bit. As usual, all design and manufacturing is done in house.

DRIVETRAIN

Eight driven wheels
Wedgetop tread
Center drop
Everything forward of four central wheels can be hung off during balancing
Four CIMs
Capable of mounting the barrier and bridge easily, with a reliable bridge mechanism
Able to turn within it's own footprint

SCORING/FEEDING

Articulating hooded shooter
>180 degrees of rotation
Capable of scoring on all three baskets
Cross field feeding
Dual stage pickup; shuts off automatically once filled

HYBRID MODE

Capable of shooting baskets
Reversible ball pickup for partner feeding

BRIDGE BALANCING

Very low center of gravity
Takes up less bridge space than most long robots

CHAMPIONSHIP WEIGHT: 118 lbs

Go Curie!

Similar to what I did in previous years (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showpost.php?p=735425&postcount=165), I ran through 200 simulated qualification match schedules (with 9 matches per team, using the FIRST match generator).

I used each team's highest adjusted opr at any event to choose that team's "best event". Then, for that event, I used their unadjusted OPR for their contribution to a match. I also used the hybrid OPR, bridge OPR, teleop OPR to help calculate the standings. For the co-op bridge, I summed the co-op OPR for all 6 robots in the match and compared that to a threshold. When back-testing against regionals, if the threshold was chosen to be close to the number of actual co-ops at the regional, it had a relatively high correlation to the actual results on the co-op bridge. Almost all regionals had a correlation co-efficient of between 0.6 and 0.85. However, at the Michigan State Championship, the correlation coefficient was only 0.3. I believe this is because almost all of the robots there were able to balance so the balances that didn't happen weren't be cause of the robots, but because of luck. I used this method for calculating the co-ops, trying to get a co-op percent of around 60% (higher then most regionals, but lower then MSC). Overall, this isn't a very good way to do it, as it punishes teams at early regionals and regionals where teams did not co-op that much. However, it's included to help simulate the randomness of the rankings this year. All OPR data is from Ed Law's spreadsheet.

I calculated the results for each of the 200 simulated qualification schedules, and then looked at some statistics from the aggregate results.

Since the standings are much more complicated this year, and the co-op bridge is so important, and there isn't a very good way to simulate it, I looked at both the ranks, the number of qualification points, and the number of wins.

Everyone should attend Karthik's presentation (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=105540) at the championships where he covers "Why 'OPR' is a flawed indicator in Rebound Rumble".

Way to put a big target on our back, Joe. Remember everybody, these are just numbers and reality is much less generous.

I think Joe just painted over the big target you put on your back after going 32-0.

2914 is happy to come in under the radar, we are pretty confident in the scouting abilities of the top teams and will make our case on the field. I'm getting excited, how about you?

I posted a similar post on the 2012 Divisions thread, but I was wondering if any teams are in a similar situation as my team.

At the Wisconsin Regional, team 706's robot only made one tele-op point. After, we made adjustments to both the mechanical and code side of it. Now it is shooting with a more direct shoot instead of an arch, and the shooter builds rpm's and recovers 2.5 seconds faster. With this new change, we perdict our OPR will at least double.

If other teams have done the same, the competition will be much more competitive.

Has this situation affected any other team here on Curie?

We went the other way. We got more accurate and better shots as we increased our arch. We had a really flat shot to start with, then went crazy and shot from the key and got 30 feet of air before landing near the basket, and then dialed it in to pretty accurate.

A lot of my students wanted to end up in a division with 987 because their robot looks similar to ours.

Also ending up in the same division with a certain green spiky haired team from Katy, Texas wasn't bad either in my opinion.

Honestly, I can't wait to see how things turn out with teams like 233, 254, 341, 624, 971, 987, 1986, 2474 in our division! It's going to be an exciting weekend. Good luck to all teams in Curie!

I would like to take a chance to introduce you to the 2 RoboDawgs teams traveling to St. Louis this year!

However, there may be a little bit of confustion if you are doing pre-competition scouting. The RoboDawgs are broken down into 3 teams, Team 216, 244, and 288, and recently were the first team in FRC History to send 3 teams from one high school to the Semi-Finals at a single event! Unfortunately, there was a bit of a mix-up in registering teams for nationals, and team 216 (Which had been decided was attending nationals) was accidentally registered as 288 (Which was not attending nationals). Due to this confusion, and strict FRC Tournament Policy, Team 216 will be attending the tournament under the 288 name.

IF YOU ARE CONDUCTING PRE-TOURNAMENT SCOUTING, PLEASE CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING:
The information you are looking at for Team 288 is incorrect!
For correct match scores, OPR, DPR, and other information, please make sure you are looking at Team 216!
Thank You!

Now, for a little information on our teams!

Team 244:

Consistant 6-12 points in autonomous mode!
Wide orientation, and triple balanced 5 times this year!
District Winner at Troy District Competition!
District Finalist at Waterloo Regional!

Team 288:

Consistent 10 points in autonomous mode! (Made 19/24 at most recent competition!)
Scores an average of 4-6 baskets per match!
Alliance Captain at 2 tournament events!
Double/Coopertition balanced over 30 times this year!

Thanks for reading, and on behalf of all members of the RoboDawgs, Good Luck! :)

Looks like there's only two teams left in Curie that are still undefeated. Unless I skimmed through the division standings too quickly.

Thanks a lot. It sucks being stuck here at work, quietly cheering on my team via the NASA Broadcast.

And as I write this, looks like 987 racked up yet another win. I still can't get over how ridiculously accurate their shooter is.

And with Daisy losing their timeout coupon and getting grip tape on their shooter shaft, the Ace of Spades proves that you can overwhelm a triple balance without even balancing.

We we were never designed to do triple-balance yet when they got so close...auugh. Oh well. We had a fantastic year and I'm happy to see 987 move on to Einstein. An amazing showing. I can't believe they managed to out-score a very good alliance headed by Miss Daisy as well as that alliance triple-balancing. insane.

Thanks to 254 and 78 for being fantastic partners! It was great to finally get to work with you, and we definitely want to do it again. I am very sorry that we let you down; our shooter started having traction issues as soon as elims started (due to wear and/or the bizarre new balls that they introduced for elims that did not feel like ANY ball we had fired all season), and by the finals we were frantically trying to re-apply grip tape so our accuracy would get back to normal. But we were rushed, and couldn't find the timeout ticket in time, so the repair was not effective. The world saw what we could do when we were all clicking (128 points, foul-free), which makes it sting that much worse...:(

Congrats to 233, 987, and 207 for winning the division and being World Finalists! 987, you guys were the definition of consistency. 233, you really turned up your game in the elims! 207, you played incredible defense. It is a damned shame what happened on Einstein, and I know that I'll forever be wondering what could have been.

We had the same exact problem. The last day of competition they put new balls in the field. Which two of our matches we got in our rollers jamming almost blowing out our motor. We went to ask them about it, and they said it was part of the game.

Congrats to teams 987, 207, and 233 for being division champs and making it all the way into the finals match on Einstein.

Thanks to team 3528 and 1477 for being awesome alliance partners. Quarter-finals were crazy intense with our 60-62 loss and 72-71 and 46-45 wins, and semi's were even more ridiculous with 207's kamakazi style defense over the co-op bridge!

Does anyone know where I can find match videos for both quals and (especially) elims? Thanks!

Does anybody have video of 207 jumping off of the elevated end of a bridge in what I believe was SF 2 or Finals on Curie? They had pulled down the bridge on their side and started to drive up the bridge while an opposing robot managed to wedge itself under the other side of the bridge. This held the bridge up while 207 drove straight of the end of the elevated bridge at a pretty high speed. They then dropped about two feet to the floor and went on driving without an issue.

Just one of the more awesome moments I had witnessed this FIRST season. Hopefully someone has video from the match.

On another note, congrats to all the Curie teams and those that represented us on Einstein. It was an interesting division to play in. With an emphasis on triple balancing and an overwhelming amount of the best teams in our division being long, it was neat to see how alliance selections and eliminations played out.

To 987, sorry about roughing up your pickup in QF-3. We were glad to see that it was repaired and functional in your next match.

The match was SF2-2, and the defending robot wedged under the bridge was 1741. Our driver couldn't believe 207 did that, as he didn't think anyone would be willing to risk a 2ft hard drop! Props to 207's driver for what I think was the most agressive play all tournament long.

I just want to shout out to Daisy(341), Poofs(254) and Air Strike(78), our matches with your alliance were honestly the toughest matches all competition. I didn't realize it at the time but I'm sorry that 78 went out of comms in the finals (that was still a not known to me issue at the time). I saw 78 guarding the rail and thought that was what he was doing to limit the marauding but knowing he was out of comms changes it all. How long was he down for?

We went to ask them about it, and they said it was part of the game.Exactly. Though this wouldn't bother me so much if it wasn't specifically asked at the driver's meeting only receive a vague and misleading non-commitment that it would "be like the regionals", with balls only being replaced as needed throughout the competion. (The regionals did have replacements scheduled for start of eliminations, in addition to replace-as-needed.) Guess we should have asked if they were going to give us literally different game pieces mid-event as well.

Hi guys. I know I'm not on Curie. :o Even as a backup on Newton I was still worried about it, though.

Congrats to 987, 207 and 233. You guys were awesome and I believe definitely could have gone all the way. Also congratulations to 341 with 254 and 78. We love you guys and you also could have taken it all. Great job to everyone and I wish we'd all been lucky enough to witness the matches that could have and should have happened. I just posted the video that I got from Team 207 on Youtube here:

I hope they don't mind that I posted their video for them, but it was one of the most incredible and awesome things I've seen all season. A very gutsy move with no hesitation. They also were using rapid prototyped wheels this year, which made it all the more incredible that they didn't break something. (I guess Team 3528 did take some of the impact).

I would like to thank our alliance partners the Pink Team 233 and Team 207. That was the first time we've had a chance to work with (and not against) 233 since we first met in Vegas back in 2007, and it was an incredible experience. Pink definitely plays on a higher level in the elimination rounds (as they always do) and certainly peaked at the perfect time with their best performance of the year, IMHO. We were confident in our strategy coming into the championship that we could outscore a triple balance with the right partners, but lost sight of it over the weekend until Pink's drive coach, Brian, talked some sense into us at the last minute. "Think Pink" takes on a whole new meaning for me now. I wish we could have gotten that Championship banner for you.

Team 207 was an amazing defensive bot and a steal of a second pick. Seeing the video of them jump off the co-op bridge (I was focusing on the other end of the field and missed it) will forever live in my mind as one of the most incredible things I've seen in FIRST. They are a great group of people to work with, and we look forward to working together again in the future out on the West Coast.

I would also like to congratulate Teams 341, 254, and 78. The #1 alliance was an incredible pairing that at first I didn't know if we could beat. Congratulations on setting the 2012 game high score of 128. Miss Daisy's machine this year was a sight to see and we had a great time fighting back and forth with them and 233 for the top seed. I wish that our rookie mistake with the battery connector in our match together hadn't happened and we could have seen at least one match of what our pairing had the potential of putting up on the scoreboard. The Poofs are a perennial powerhouse team that I have admired and respected since I started in FIRST in 2006. They always have incredible robot designs, are fiercely competitive and one of the hardest working teams in FIRST. They are one of the teams you would always rather play with than against if you have the choice. And Team 78, it is too bad that you lost radio power in Curie Finals Match 1. Congrats on a great season as well.

Congrats also to the other teams in Curie that had great performances this weekend off the top of my head like 1986, 624, 3098, 1507, 1477, 2474, 1678, and 1511. The Curie field was very deep this year and it was a lot of fun to get to know and compete against new teams we've never faced.

Lastly, I want to give a special thanks to Team 525 for helping us fix our ball intake mechanism after they inadvertantly broke it at the end of QF3-2. Truely a remarkable showing of gracious professionalism and class from a great team.

See you all next year.

Team 3528, Up Next, would like to thank teams 1477 and 1741 for their awesome performance in the eliminations. The game playing strategy was ingenious. Texas Torque's shooting was dead accurate and Red Alert played amazing defense. Each of those QF matches could have went either way. I would love to re-watch all three matches again.

I don't remember after which match we bent our bridge-tipper, but if we had been able to employ the same strategy in the SF's, then maybe we could've given 233-987-207 a better run.

Those semis are the first time I remember seeing two pink teams against each other. Sometime in the future, we need to come up with a pink alliance, like the maroon alliance that won the '07 championship.

Not too happy about the "cooperatition" from the opposing alliance in the final match, but it's the finals and strategy is more important than ever during the Championships I suppose.

Are you referring to Q-150? If you are, we did not throw that co-op balance. We actually setup early to help ensure you would get those points since they were critical to your ranking (and really had no bearing on our positioning). You guys showed up later than expected and didn't go up the bridge straight, then there wasn't enough time to correct. Our entire alliance was upset we didn't nail that balance.

Although we didn't get picked for eliminations, 1501 had a great time (sans some craziness) at the championships.

For the majority of the team, this was their first time ever competing at the worlds. We had crazy matches and mess-ups that reminded us that this wasn't regionals anymore. I can tell that many are taking the experience to heart, and using it to improve themselves and the team next year.

We are extremely humbled by the amount of the teams that came up and asked about our stacking abilities. We knew we had a bit of reputation outside of Indiana, but not at this level. Thank you.

Thank you to 3950 for the continued interest in picking us. Unfortunately, the selections didn't run in your favors. We were looking forward to working with you all, and hopefully that will happen in the future.

On a personal note, thank you to so many teams that took the time to answer my questions despite busy moments, them being 971, 1114, 2056, 1717, 125, 148, 842, 33, 48, 25, 67, 365, and 469.

1501'll hopefully come back next year, and if we do, we'll kick some serious butt around, count on it.....

1885 had a blast on Curie. We had a decent schedule with a mix of powerful alliances and matches where it all fell to us. It was also fun to be able to watch our FTC win the FTC Championships right next door to Curie on Saturday morning.

Thanks to 244 and 624 for a good run at the Semis! The strategy we attempted in SF 1-2 was fun to try even if it became ineffective. The idea was to disrupt 254's ball flow -- which obviously didn't work if it enabled them to get the season's high score. We're sorry we blew a drive train Jag and couldn't finish the match out.

After we got our schedule Thursday morning I convinced our team to move autonomous to the left corner of the key. This was probably the best improvement we've done all year since it gave us a 100% perfect alignment every single match using some very simple triangulation off of field elements. It also got us out of the way for the moving autonomous routines, such as what 341 and 254 had, while also allowing us to be independent autonomous scorers with flexible timing. Finally it put us right in the prime ball throwing lane for the opposing alliance -- and since we were still touching the key, there wouldn't have been any penalties for contact with an alley bot in the opening seconds of teleop.

If anyone has videos from the Curie elims, it would be great if you could throw them up on Youtube. These were some of the best matches this year.

233, 987, 207: All I can say is WOW. Your alliance was absolutely fantastic. 233, you managed to turn it up as you always do for elims. The robot was on fire by finals. 987, you had another amazing machine. I was very impressed by your ability to pick a random spot on the field and drain all of your shots with such speed. 207, I think you have proven a high quality machine with great drivers can make the difference when it comes to elims. Congratulations on winning Curie.

341 and 78: It was great being able to work with you in elims. We were hoping for a 341/254/78 alliance, so to see that actually happen was really cool. We had our share of setbacks, but that's the way these things always go. Miss Daisy, you should hold your heads high. 5 medals in a year is quite the accomplishment. Air Strike, it was cool to work with guys. Your auto was clutch and you played the backcourt extremely well.

I could tell coming in to Championship that this division would be the one to watch (just look at some of my recent comments), and I wasn't disappointed by a long shot.

Congratulations to all of the teams that made it here in the first place, and to those of you who made it into eliminations! However, there are a couple teams I'd like to put a spotlight on just for a moment, as they performed exceptionally throughout the season and Championships with little recognition. I have watched these teams from afar this season, ever impressed by their constantly improving robots.

Thie first is team 1477, Texas Torque. They ranked deceptively low, losing 4 matches by slim margins, the largest deficit being 6 points. They were also a member of the alliance that first put up a win against 987, alongside teams 120 and 244. They carried the scoring burden of their elimination alliance by themselves with their incredible key shooting that accurately released all of their basketballs in seconds, then quickly gathering the balls fed to them by their partners 1741 and 3528.

The other is team 624, just a short drive away from team 1477, their alliance partners twice this season. Like 1477, 624 ranked low and was the single scoring robot for their elimination alliance, putting up huge numbers in hybrid and teleoperated modes. They also fought hard to make their way to the semifinals, being eliminated by a powerhouse alliance that put up a record 128 points.

I was incredibly impressed by all of the robots that showed up to play on the Curie field this year, and I hope to see a bunch of them at IRI and in coming seasons!

We're extremely glad that we were able to contribute what we could to the incredible scoring machines of 233 and the High Rollers, and moreso glad that we were able to go as far as we did, the farthest our team has ever gone. That was our first time (other than being invited as a rookie team 5 years ago) at the championships. ... we were hoping to make a good "first impression" with a lot of the teams so we'd be more recognizable if we have another good season next year. Yea :( If you watch the collision between 1885 & 254 at 0:26, you may notice that the Poofs' "fingers" on their collection mechanism jam into our electronics board. At that point the jags started throwing errors down the CAN bus, meaning that we still had comms but very sporadic response from the robot. It should have been a [G27], potential yellow card if the ref caught it and we could have explained the extent and result of the damage, but the ref didn't see it and wouldn't assign the penalty after the fact.

We figured there were 2 ways to slow down the poofs, but only got to try one of them (and it obviously didn't work  )

Yea :( If you watch the collision between 1885 & 254 at 0:26, you may notice that the Poofs' "fingers" on their collection mechanism jam into our electronics board. We certainly did not wish to cause damage to your robot and regret that any resulted, but we were airborne over the bump when you drove into us. There wasn't exactly anything we could do.
