SolidWorks Tutorials

Hey CD!

I am planning on doing tutorials for SolidWorks during the summer to train my team members and to help train other teams interested in using CAD.

I have a few ideas as to what to do in some of the tutorials but is there anything else some people would want?

My ideas right now:
- Sketch's (defining sketches and using tools to make you quicker)
- Extrusions (Using the different type of extrusions to the Fullest)
- Assemblies (mating, and other review tools)
- Sheet Metal Tool

Also is there anybody who thinks they would be watching these tutorials to learn more?

ever thought of going onto youtube and finding some good vids on this stuff on there? there are actually alot of good ones, even some by solidworks themselves.

I was thinking of doing these ones related to FIRST itself. Like building chassis's or something else.

ok. That is a bit different then what your first post communicated.

Since this is primarily for your team, I would recommend you find what your team has problems doing and start there. As far as things that might help them: I have seen that making a detailed light bulb and making a detailed car do wonders to teach people tricks that might be useful.

My team Members are starting from scratch. I basically want to teach them solidworks this year because next yer is my last year on the team. We will be working sid by side for next season, so i need to get them designing.

ok, I would recommend you start with what is already designed and made as far as tutorials if you must do videos. I would also recomend you teach the WITH hotkeys, mouse gestures, exc.

also, at least with my team, It is faster and more efficient to teach them by doing it live.

I would love a tutorial on sheet metal chassis design.

Do you start with an frame like so

and then you are looking to place a sheetmetal floor to mount other subsystmes to?

Or are you looking for your frame to be sheetmetal?

Sheet metal can be use structurally - but you have to know how much weight will be distributed.

You can download the file and take a look at how the part was constructed.

Right-click the gray area of the SolidWorks Main menu to bring up the Sheet Metal toolbar. You have to use Sheet Metal features - not Solid features. Give me some ideas in your design direction. Marie

I will take a look at the FRC Tutorials later to get an idea of what i could do.

For the sheet-metal design it is a full frame design. I have designed over 10 different chassis in solidworks, most of them sheet-metal.
