With the new control system, team 665 thought they would need bigger and better Victor Fans!
Fans belong in the stands cheering, not in the lab threatening to bust up your hand, or on a robot making it go out of control.
"bigger and faster fans, because you never want your FP's to overheat"

Well that cooling system's just *takes off glasses* FANtastic!

The fan was going 28 mph? Let's throw a flux capacitor on that thing and see if we can give it another 60. Just think, we could send all our heat back or to the future.
When the mentors of Team 665 told their students they had no way to go to the World Championships the students had only one response, "Challenge Accepted."

The team was told that team spirit was lagging and that they needed more fans. Here's the first effort from the build team to address that.
Generally I'm no fan of wooden robots, but this apparatus blew me away.

Captain, my initial tricorder scans indicate that this device is moving so quickly that it can phase between dimensions, resulting in the appearance of disappearance. However, I believe we can harness this technology to make entire robots disappear as well.
665 has discovered what they think is a new way to win: Blow the competition away.
Unfortunately, they don't have enough thrust to blow away even one person.

Mentor: Who knew?! When we came up with this design, we weren't blowing smoke!

Mentor, thinking: If that's how fast we need to rotate the fan to make it invisible, how fast would I need to be rotated, and could I manage it without getting sick?

We all knew that 665's mentor was a Desk Jockey, but this crosses the line...
no chance of winning this year, I guess... sigh.
This is what happens when you vote on a design without enough brainstorming. You get the flying robot.

But, would it give them a competitive edge?
The answer, my friend, was blowin' in the wind.

I've heard people complaining about computer fans louder than that (note: it was the complaining that was loud, the fans themselves were actually quite reasonable in my opinion).
It's a little late to be figuring how to cool down the pits in Disney*, but better late than never.
*or the gym at MARC.

Ok, the first thought was "how much air can we push at 'ludicrous speed'?" The second was "did anybody bother to check what the max RPM before destruction specification might be?" Once they had their empirical data then it was a matter of burning some chalk to arrive at an equation that could render "ludicrous speed" from prop length and pitch knowing CIM free speed. Still waiting for that to be published.
When is face protection not enough?

"So if we build a fan that no one can see, can we use it to get better traction in Lunacy?"
rachelholladay

You know, video editing technology has advanced quite a bit, so you never really can be sure of what you see..or don't see.
The first tip for fans is to put a tip on them so you can see them as they spin. This must be done before they start spinning.
