Considering that the extra spots filled up in all of three minutes once opened, who all is ready for the new Arkansas Regional? For the amount of teams attending, I would consider it a "deep" top field. Previous World Champions, Regional Winners, Regional Finalists, and more will be in attendance.

Team 2410 is ready to attend. Are you?

FRC 1912 Combustion will be there! We are pretty excited play especially since we have a whole Bayou Regional group going (465 Siege, 1421 Chaos, 1912 Combustion, 2080 Torobotics)

2080 cannot wait! We're always excited to make new friends, and as Rachel said it'll be fun to experience Razorback with some familiar faces. Hopefully we'll have a brand new stomp-routine in store for you guys!

Hopefully we'll have a brand new stomp-routine in store for you guys!

Stomp routine? Having never attended Bayou regional, I'm unfamiliar with this term. I imagine it's self explanitory.

Sounds like the Bayou crowd is almost as spirited as those of us from the Midwest ;)

3310 wanted to attend but alas there were no open spots.

Maybe next year!

Looks to be some great talent going to razorback, and if its as fun as the off-season was I'm sure all involved will have a blast

Greetings from Team 2410!

At the upcoming Arkansas regional, we and team 3612, the Gearhogs, will be running a food drive for a local food pantry and would be very happy if your team would participate. If you could just bring five cans to the regional to take to our pit, it would be greatly appreciated. If everyone brings five cans, that's nearly three hundred cans! We will also be taking monetary donations.

Thanks for the assist! Looking Forward (Sorry, had to) to the regional!

Team 3528 UpNext is so excited!!! We had a few bad runs at the KC Regional but we did improve throughout the event. We did beat 1986 in one semi final match which was awesome.

We are looking forward to the great competition that will be there and we know it won't be easy.

Look out!! :)

So, I got a little more in depth with my pre-event scouting (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AmeevXa1knKRdGl5V3FxRHktUG02aUw4dnozX1drT 3c&usp=sharing). It's my last regional, so I figured why not. The link will take you to a google spreadsheet with previous regionals attended, team awards won, OPR/CCWM, seasonal/regional records, and average match score for both qualifications and eliminations. I'll be going back to update the spreadsheet after this weekend.

Facts and Trivia:
Razorback Regional is a first year regional. Thank you to Team 16 for making this happen!

At the time I'm writing this, there are 4 wild card possible teams. Those teams are 1730, 1912, 1939, and 3284. Interesting note, all 4 slots were earned in different ways. Engineering Inspiration, Regional Chairman's, the very FIRST wild card, and Regional winner, respectively.

The average OPR of teams attending is 24.32. Congratulations to Team 1939 for bringing the highest OPR of 58.6, and an honorable mention to Team 1421 for being just half a point behind The Kuh-Nig-Its at 58.1.

The average CCWM is 10.08. Interestingly enough, the top two OPR teams switch places for CCWM, with 1421 taking top spot with an CCWM of 44, and Team 1939 right behind them at 38.5.

Of teams that have previously competed, the average ranking at previous events is ~21. Low and behold, Team 1939 holds the title for highest previous ranking, at 2nd seed.

Seven previous regionals are represented here, with a majority of teams coming down from Greater Kansas City (eight teams), closely followed by coming over from the Bayou (six teams). Guess we just wanted to pay Team 16 back for coming to GKC so often! The other represented regionals are Hub City (one team), Lone Star (two teams), St. Louis (one team), Wisconsin (one team), and Oklahoma (two teams).

Speaking of attending previous regionals, 18 teams will be stepping foot on an official Ultimate Ascent field for the first time this season. That's 47.3% of the field having never played!

Of those 18 teams, 11 of them will be stepping on an official Ultimate Ascent field for the first time EVER. A little under a third of the field (28.9%) of the field are rookies. Let's show them they could not have pick a better FIRST regional.

For the remaining 20 teams, over half of them (11) have played in Eliminations somewhere, with 2 of them having played twice! Four teams out in Quarters, four out in Semis, a final four (16, 1421, 1929, and 3847), and one Regional Winner in 3284.

Finally, some congratulations:
Team 1912 on their Regional Chairman's Award at Bayou! You can bet we'll be sending a few students your way to take notes. I imagine your receiving of an RCA has something to do with your WFFA and Dean's List program...

Team 1730 on their 3RD(!) Engineering Inspiration Award Y'all certainly inspire us and drive us to do better.

There is a plethora of Safety Award winners in attendance, with titles being held by teams 456, 3284, and 3612.

Funnily enough, there is as much Entrepreneurship going around Arkansas as safety, with three Entrepreneurship awards, including one double winner (3847).

Congratulations to Team 1939 on receiving the very FIRST Wild card in FIRST History! I cannot think of a more deserving team than you guys, and I wish you luck at Champs!

I'll update this when Week 5 comes to an end. (Probably in a new post.)

Thanks Calvin for your kind words about our wildcard win! Our team is super excited about Razorback, meeting new teams and seeing a lot of friends from KC as well!
Speaking of...I'd add that UpNext (3528) is another team to watch out for at Razorback. They improved every match in KC and were on our short-list for first pick in alliance selection. And wow, what an exciting match in their second semi-final!
For any teams that might need a helping hand at Razorback, stop by our pit (follow the Killer Rabbit) and we'll do our best to help!

P.S. Really have enjoyed reading your pre-regional posts Calvin! Awesome job!

I've updated the spreadsheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AmeevXa1knKRdGl5V3FxRHktUG02aUw4dnozX1drT 3c#gid=0) with the data in after week 5. Nothing too game changing. Three teams competed in Oklahoma (2461 3160 3507). Of those three teams, both the Metal Skins and FROG robotics were outed in the Semi-Finals, and Ubotics was not selected. No new wild card slots were generated.

I added a second sheet to the spreadsheet; it simply has the FRC Spyder average winning/losing and win margin data for the 7 regionals previously attended.

A hair over a third (34.21%) of the teams attending have experienced Eliminations play this year.

Updated Averages:
Ranking: 19th (18.6 including 2nd regional for teams)
Qualification Score: 58.29
Elimination Score: 84.29

OPR: 23.54
CCWM: 9.23

If I get around to it, I might go and throw in the Qualification standard deviations. It'd be an interesting addition.

CalTran thanks for posting this data, this is a big help. Spectrum will be at Razorback this year. We're excited to represent Texas at this event. We're going to have a smaller team than usual but it'll still be a lot of fun. We know some of these teams from previous events but we can't wait to make more friends.

Well, low and behold, for whatever reason, the Team List jumped up another 2 teams. Please welcome Teams 1810 and 4487. Both of these teams have previously attended a regional (Greater Kansas City and Oklahoma, respectively).

Updated Averages:
Ranking: 20.64
Qualification Score: 57.81
Elimination Score: 82.70

OPR: 22.44
CCWM: 7.65

Razorback is now up to 42 teams. We are going to be joined by:

1477 - Texas Torque, who are coming for their 4th regional &
1927 - Tempest, who is coming for their 2nd regional

We are leaving Houston in the morning for our 10 hour drive. See everyone there.

Qualification Score: 59.35
Elimination Score: 85.69

OPR: 23.65
CCWM: 9.00

Please also welcome, as noted by Mr. Gregory, Teams 1477, having played 3(!) regionals and Team 1927, Tempest, who have attended one regional. Both made eliminations at their events.

Making my staff a little harried as well! But worth it to have so many great teams at our inaugural event.

Thanks to Team 1912, we will have a webcast at http://www.coderedrobotics.com/webcast/

See everyone later today!

I have 1 small, 1 medium, and 1 large to trade with both 1477 and any other team interested in trading. I also have a pair of large MMR 2410 sweatpants for any team that also has non-standard apparel they're interested in trading.

Some of the team members and mentors from 1987 are going to make the trip down to watch the competition. It will be great to see the inaugural Razorback regional. Being only about 3 hours away from the Kansas City area, the KS and MO teams should be well represented each and every year.

We would like to wish the Kansas City Area Schools good luck. We especially wish our sister school, 1730, good luck as they are always there for us in whatever capacity we need them in.

To our recent Texas competition attending, 1477, we know you will give all of the teams a run for their money. How do you have the energy to attend your fourth regional this year? Good luck, you have a great robot and team.

It is great to finally see a regional in Arkansas.

I'm really quite excited that many of the teams we saw at Bayou are coming up to Razorback. We normally only compete in LA, TX and CMP so its lovely that we'll get to see more of the AR and KC area teams. Thanks so much Caltran for the data. (You've made my job as coach a bit easier!).

I-Dog, thank you! We were so hoping 624 would come back to Bayou because its always fun to play with you guys (and to have all of our freshmen come up and ask "Rachel, how do they get their hair like that? Can we do that to you?") Hopefully we'll play with CRyptonite next year..?

Everybody ready for some robots?

Hopefully we'll play with CRyptonite next year..?

That depends on when Bayou happens... It has to meet a couple of conditions.

1. Lone Star and Bayou can't conflict.
2. Bayou has to happen during our spring break or during easter weekend.(unless lone star happens during one of those in which everyone is fair game.)

CRyptonite definitely loves playing at Bayou! But I think I should stop interrupting the Razorback thread :D

I wish I could go to Arkansas this weekend to trade shirts and watch the competition. I seem to have misplaced my titanium shirt from 2011 :(

...inspection is going very well. Thanks for all your understanding of our rookie event mistakes and crowded conditions. FIRST teams never cease to amaze me.

I must say, inspection here was, by far, the best inspection I've ever been through in my 4 years of being in the pit for the team. It went so darned smoothly and found no problems (Except apparently impossibly light bumpers...have people really never seen bumpers under 10lbs? )

There were rookie event mistakes? Seemed like a pretty smooth event and it's really throwing a wrench in the teams deal of going to a different out of state regional because we fell in love with the regional day one. :)

By the way, it's not crowded, it's a "cozy" regional

PS - if you didn't see it today, I posted a large copy of my scouting list outside our pit if you need quick information. (We're under the blue and white marque that says CAPS.)

Texas Torque is on their 4th Regional ! Hopefully they can figure out who will be their best partner to qualify them onto Championships.

1421 would be an interesting choice because of their fast climb/dump.

1939 / 3284 / 16 / 3847 and 3528 all looked to be evenly matched in OPR and scoring capability. The elimination rounds are going to be interesting !

Kevin Sevcik

The elimination rounds are going to be interesting !True, but surely that's the last thing 1477 wants to hear at this point. I'm crossing my fingers that 3847 and 1477 get together so I don't have to think too hard about who I'm rooting for. I'll also accept 1912, 1730, 3284 on the winning alliance with 1477, against 3847 in the finals. Basically I'm rooting for my Houston teams to both advance, somehow. Make it happen, dang it!

What's the story of qualifying match 82. Twitter data shows 90 climb points for 1421, 456, and 1939. However, it also shows 63 foul points. How many of the climb points are from climbing, and how many are from being interfered with?

Wellll I didn't see the match, but I know that 1421 is a 30 point climber and 456 and 1939 are both only 10 point climbers. So that would mean that, at a minimum, both 456 and 1939 were fouled, and the other 23 foul points came from other fouls, but 1421 may have been fouled as well. Disregarding fouls, the robots only should have had 50 climbing points, though.

There were 81 disc points scored and 50 legitimate climb points. The score of the match without any penalties would have been 131.

I believe one of the opposing alliance hit the pyramid when we were all climbing, and they took an interference technical for each of us and we all got credit for 30 point climbs. Luckily, nobody fell.
