View Full Version : CD Holiday Cards 2012?
I have been super busy recently and have been forgetting to check if the signup has been posted yet. I was able to check today and noticed I couldn't find one through searching. Are we doing one this year?
Best event in the year!

Everyone who Posted I don't believe the OP was asking who wanted to participate rather, if there was a sign up page yet...? maybe I miss understood?
Could Someone explain how it works? I saw it last year, but didn't particpaite because I was newer to the CD community and was unsure what it was. I will most likely participate this year :)
Send a holiday card to everybody on this list. Canadian residents sign twice for postage. You get one from everybody on the list in return.
Sometimes they're personalized; sometimes they're team-oriented; sometimes they're storebought; they're all from somebody awesome.
Later, the coordinator (Kelli or Kimmeh) will send you a PM asking for your address; you'll get a PM later with everybody's address.
Simple, straightforward, and it guarantees you will have a mailbox bursting with holiday cheer!

...and sometimes the postal service doesn't seem to get the gist of "NON-MACHINEABLE" and it all just goes kerplooey. :o

This is straight from Kimmeh's post that is now locked. I will not have the time to head this up and I'm waiting for confirmation that she would like too. I'll post if she is wanting to. I'm also transfering her name over to this thread.
"It's time to sign up for CD Christmas Cards!
A book of stamps is currently: $9.00 USD (Up $0.20 from last year.)
Since it takes two stamps to mail to Canada, Canadians please make sure to sign up for 2 spots.
We'll limit this, as in past years, to 40 sign-ups, so this way no one is spending more than $18 in stamps (which is two books of stamps, unless you're Canadian – if all sign-ups are to America, your cost would max out at around $34)
Spread the word! Tell your friends, tell your enemies, tell your robot. It’s a lot of fun when a lot of people sign up! Even if you don't celebrate Christmas, you are welcome to participate!
The deadline is going to be Sunday, December 2, 2012. This means that you must have PM'd me your address before 11:59pm on 12/2. I will send out a reminder PM on 11/30 if you have signed up but have not sent me your address, but it will make both of our lives easier if you just send it as soon as you sign up.
Obviously, we can't track you down and force you to send cards--but try to avoid being a spoilsport. Don’t forget to send them, and don't put them off until the last minute!
And yes, this means the other folks involved will get a physical address (via PM), so check with the parents as applicable.
So, if you're in for this year, add your name to the list and PM me your address (be sure to include special instructions if you're a college student who will be leaving campus and you want your cards to be sent to a different address after certain date).
Note: If anyone plans on sending out festivus poles, or other holiday objects, this year (coughBillfredcough), make sure that the packaging will withstand the mailing process."

Yup! I'm more than willing to head this. So if you haven't sent your address yes, please send it to me.
Or, if you've already sent it to Treffk and are feeling mildly paranoid, feel free to send it again.

Is it suggested that I say "Happy Holiday's" or "Season Greetings" rather than Merry Christmas??

Same. Not Xmas. Christmas. Thanks.
I should be getting mine out within the next couple days. I've put off doing anything with it due to finals and our last FLL qualifer. Now that it's all over I can spend some time with it.

It's a bit late to make that change. Mine went out a week ago. Hopefully, some folks will have received them by now.
For the record, all of mine say "Merry Christmas"
Also, I watched the USPS truck pull into my neighborhood, so they're on their way.

Same. Not Xmas. Christmas. Thanks.
Not that I'm even sending out cards this year (I hope to next year, though!), but I feel the need to say something. (Troll! I know...DealWidIt) Ya'll critique each other's design flaws, so this is the English/History teacher's turn.
1. Writing "Xmas" is not disrespectful at all. Please see this Snopes page to understand more: http://www.snopes.com/holidays/christmas/xmasabbr.asp
2. People should send/create cards that represent what they personally celebrate. The FIRST family is a beautiful mixture of cultures, and this should be celebrated. The Kamen family is even Jewish.
Enjoy your cards! I loved doing this a couple years ago.
Happy Holidays, all.
People should send/create cards that represent what they personally celebrate. The FIRST family is a beautiful mixture of cultures, and this should be celebrated. The Kamen family is even Jewish.
Thank you! People (in general, not specifically ones on CD) are worried about being politically correct and get so upset about this. You have no reason to get up in arms if someone wishes you a "Happy Holiday(s)" because that is literally what it is. You're wishing someone a happy "End of year" holiday and at that, New Years is a holiday. You shouldn't feel obligated to cater your well-wishes to someone. I think it's a safe assumption that unless someone said something DIRECTLY targeting your chosen holiday, you can assume that someone meant you no insult.
[/rant]
2. People should send/create cards that represent what they personally celebrate. The FIRST family is a beautiful mixture of cultures, and this should be celebrated.
Even if your family chooses to celebrate Festivus (although you may be advised to send it in a cardboard box)
Moral to the story: If somebody chooses to be offended by your well-wishes, that's their problem.
Color me confused - Ken Gourley signed up three times, and I don't see his address in the listing. Did I miss something?

No, you didn't. I did. More specifically, I missed his address.
I sent out a reminder PM as promised, and never received a reply. Currently the read receipt is marked as "Unread" and he was last online on 11-21-2012.
We can't send him cards if we don't have an address. =/

Ah. That stinks.
Ken - Merry Christmas.
I know most people by now have sent out their cards and I didn't hear this story until about a week ago.

It's a news article about a little boy named Dalton Dingus. He is battling cystic fibrosis and would like to break the world record for most Christmas cards received. (I've checked Snopes and this is real for those who feel like this may be too good to be true. I felt that way too when I first read about it which is why I checked Snopes.)
Gunniess says they are not monitoring this category at this time but if you can spare a stamp and a card, help our this little boy for his Christmas wish.
If you would like to contribute and send him a card his address is :
Dalton Dingus
HC 62 Box 1249
Slayersville, KY 41465
My cards will likely not make it out until one or two days before Christmas. The end of the semester sapped all of my free time, and I haven't been able to get stamps yet :( Maybe I'll end up sending out "happy Kickoff" cards...

It's Christmas Eve and I received 2 cards from the CD community today. That puts the total received to 3. My card tree still looks a little empty, but it's quality not quantity that shows. The cards received were great.
The world got away from me a bit so my cards haven't gone out yet. But I promise they will.
I've been sick with the flu and rather than sending each of you a potential biohazard I've opted to send a New Years card. They will go out after Christmas Day.
