View Full Version : Can't edit assembly

I am trying to familiarize myself with Inventor after several years of not using it. While trying to create an assembly of the KOP gear box I get the message "Component x is not checked out to you. Edits are not allowed on this file."

Is there a setting I need to change or something? I'm not even trying to work with my own parts yet, just assembling the already created KOP elements.

Thanks

I had the same problem, although I don't remember entirely how I fixed it, I know I had to first make a duplicate of the KOP part and work with that one

I've saved a copy of each of the components in a working folder just for that assembly but I still encounter that error.

If you get the message "Component x is not checked out to you. Edits are not allowed on this file." then the file was saved using Autodesk Vault.

One thing to check is what Project file you are using.

1. Open Autodesk Inventor.
2. Assuming you are using 2011 or newer, click Projects.
3. Select Projects.
4. Check the project file is Single User. See attached image. If it shows Vault then you need to create or use a different project file.

Let me know if this solves the problem.

The project file shows single user.

Can you post me the file you are trying to open and I will have a look.

My problem appears to have been resolved. I copied the folder to a different location and I was able to edit the file.
