Here we have our gen 2 prototype for picking frisbees off the ground and at the end of the run we will have a pneumatically operated loader and shooter with a linear frisbee shooter. The angle of our arm is roughly 20 degrees. Our arm will also have our pyramid climber mounted on both sides of our arm.

It looks like you have to be pretty well lined up to pick up a frisbee. Have you tried a wider intake so your robot wouldn't need to be lined up so accurately?

This is prototype gen 2 there will be a gen 3 with wider opening, plus you need a good driver!

Great! My team used a wide loader at WPI's Savage Soccer in November and it was the highest scoring robot there. Wide intakes make a huge difference.

I like it. Now does the lexan piece at the end cause any problems? We tried something similar but it kept catching on the tape we put down to mark the field lines.

I am interested in knowing this answer and also if the ramp is straight or curved. Also, how does this perform on upside down Frisbees?

I like it. Now does the lexan piece at the end cause any problems? We tried something similar but it kept catching on the tape we put down to mark the field lines.

We didn't think about the field tape when testing this. That is something we will be sure to do tommorow. Even if it struggles with the tape though, it doesn't seem like it would get in the way to where we plan on picking up which is on our side of the field.

What about the bump of the plate that the pyramid is on? Won't it hit that?

This current design does not actually have it touching the carpet, it just looks like it does. If we stay with this, tape should not be a problem. We will test it tomorrow and post video in this thread.

we believe that 90 % of the frisbees will be right side up. We have alot of experience playing ultimate and vary rarely do they land upside down..... If they do don't pick them up...

We won't do it there, there are plenty of other places...., although the carpet is making the step a softer angle, our arm may just go up it.... not really worth it though if you have other to pick from
Could be worth the effort if you hope to pick up 2 under the pyramid during auto, Fredi ;) Nice prototype just the same! Have you tried the set up without bottom belts and just lexan bottom on long run portion of loader?

We haven't tried without belts on the bottom, but honestly the polycord doesn't have a lot of friction on the frisbee and I'm doubtful that it will work well. Maybe with a better material for the belts...

Surprisingly, it worked with the lexan touching the ground and with the lexan about 1/4" off the ground! I have a feeling that when the flap was elevated, the frisbee would momentarily bend the flap into the ground as the arm ran into it, which allowed the frisbee to slide over the flap.
Once you pick up the frisbees, how will you get them into your hopper or whatever you use to hold the frisbees?
The hopper is included in the video; the track will hold 4 frisbees and act as the 'hopper'.

So then I guess I meant to ask how will you get them from the hopper into the shooter?

We could not get a high enough coefficient of friction, that does mean it can't be done with a different belt though

We are planning on having a pneumatic loader, pop them up about 4 inches, because the shooter will be right above the polycord track. A second piston will launch the frisbee int the the shooter wheels, we are using an inline shooter.

So what is your plan for the "bump". That 1/4" to 3/8" lip of carpet that goes around the pyramid. Are you planning to articulate your Polycarp lip and raise it or will you just avoid the pyramid?

If you were to move the front roller forward and the Lexan further back, so that the roller is the first thing to contact Frisbee, will this concept still work?
Or is it better with the Lexan hitting it first? Just wondering because i'm not sure how I should do mine.

Set up a similar model, with roller first and then add lexan extension on bottom so it contacts disks first and test to find out? This presumes you have components of course;)

That might work....we were working within the constraints we had for our arm

Having components is the issue. With the teacher strike all of our gear is at the school.
Where can you buy that cord stuff at? Is it cheap?

It might be able to. For when we start to climb we are going to have to articulate the grabber part so that it is out of the way. Could use the same device to get it over the bump. Or we can just nudge the arm up a bit when we get to those bumps. :D
