I would like to quickly create some electrical drawings similar to the following:

http://www.usfirst.org/sites/default/files/uploadedFiles/Robotics_Programs/FRC/Game_and_Season__Info/2013/ElectricalLayout.pdf
I would like to know what program was used to create these and how they went about getting the top down views of the various parts?
I have read threads about doing this with Inventor Pro. But I want to start with some thing simple which allows we to wire to a recognisable part and directly to the terminal/pin/port. And I would also like to use it to start working out where we will run our looms.
Preferably I am after a tool which will be readily available to the students.
Once this is done, I want to more to a CAD package (the students are using SolidWorks) to look at the layout from a 3D perspective.
Any help will be appreciated.
