View Full Version : How to start a FLL team
This is a little out of the ordinary, but another message board I frequent has a question on starting a FLL team. I don't have any significant experience with FLL, so if anyone here is one of the "Teeming Millions" of the Straight Dope, here is the thread (http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=680531). Thanks.
Have them contact the senior mentor for the area, that is what we are here for. Contact info for Senior Mentors can be found here: http://www.usfirst.org/community/volunteers/first-senior-mentor-program Alternately they can also contact the FLL partner for the area which can be found here: http://www.usfirst.org/regional-contacts or just send them to this page http://www.firstlegoleague.org/challenge/startateam
Thanks for the info Mr V -- I've passed on the info but the parent seems to be backing out due to time constraints and lack of assistance. He/she had tried contacting some FLL people before but they never responded. I sent an email to Nathan Knauss (the NJ Senior Mentor) yesterday -- I realize it's a volunteer position and wasn't expecting a quick response (and the whole northeast shut down because of a little snow), but I hope some day to get someone to contact this parent with some encouragement.
At this point most of the Senior Mentors are focused on helping FRC teams and Nathan, like many Senior Mentors is a mentor for a FRC team, so his plate is likely pretty full right now. If you don't get a response within a few days after bag day please send him another E-mail. If you still don't get a response send me a PM here and I'll see what I can do.
