Hey Chief Delphi,

We finished our electrical today and upon enabling the robot the cRIO makes a semi loud speaker tone. Does anyone know what causes this and how to correct it?

Thanks!

EDIT: We have the old, longer cRIO if that helps at all.

Are you sure it's the CRio and not the PDB? The PDB is known to make noise, I've never heard of the CRio making noise.

Positive it's the cRIO. We unplugged it and the noise stopped, but came back when we provided it with power again. It's not like a buzzing electrical noise, but an actual speaker tone.

We have the same "noise" and found it to come from the analog card.

My guess is that it's actually the 24 volt power supply in the power distribution board that's buzzing. When you unplug the cRIO, the supply doesn't make the noise. Try changing out your battery and seeing if it stops.

All of the above devices use a DC-DC converter that can make some noise. It is usually low level and very high in frequency so it isn't noticed over the rest of the robot noise. The convertors do make considerable noise when shorted or trying to do something they are not intended to do. If the Crio is making the noise, I would suspect it of having a problem. There is no speaker in the Crio. If the analog board is making the noise, I would check for miswired power to the board.

cRIO does makes noise. I am not sure why it does that but sometimes it makes. Have you got any answer?

There is nothing in the Crio that makes noise but the power supply on the analog bumper module may make some noise if there is an odd condition. If the Crio is emitting noises, suspect that there is an issue with the input power supply.
