We have 2 wood backings of 8" which create a corner on the robot.
Now, we need to extend the noodle out of the wood backing in order to close the corner.

The middle image of the bottom row in R27 might interest you. You could cut a section of the pool noodle out where it comes in contact with the corner.

You are fine. The R27 picture cited is a picture of plywood, not noodle. Don't cut the noodles out of your corners or you will be putting them back in at competition.
