Well it's gameday time this year and I thought this thread would be neat. This thread is for teams that have achieved a 30 point climb in competition. I ask that if your team has done a 30 point climb or witnessed a 30 point climb during a regional/district event then post it here with the Team Number, Regional, and a pic would be nice. Let's introduce the FIRST World to the 30 Point Club. (Or 3pc for short)

One More Thing: This thread is only ment to display teams that have achieved this task on the competition field. Robots doing a 30 at home is a "bit" different that them doing it in a high pressure match.;)

I believe 340 was the first team to achieve the 30pt climb today at the FLR practice matches. It was remarkably fast.

Their climb is INCREDIBLE... especially taking into account that this was demonstrated early on a Thursday during WEEK 1!

I wouldn't expect 340 to go a match without scoring at least 30 points in one way or another.

I was sad they didnt attempt to score any disc points though. But, even though it was a week 1 practice day, they might be the best bot there; even though 1507 did look very promising while scoring and 3181 was the best full court shooter shown today.

Probably, it was hard to tell. FLR always has one of the worst quality streams. Not by competition or casting standards but literal video quality.

Here's a video of our robot climbing for 30 at the Finger Lakes Regional! (ok, so technically it only counted for 20, but we were only off by a quarter inch for a 30 point climb, which we've solved in the mean time).

Two teams joined the 30 point climb club at Kettering today: 4819 and 3773. 4819 does it every match they're in, while 3773 has done it once. Here's video of a match where they were paired together, with 4819 getting a 30 point climb and 3773 getting a 20 pointer:

Anyone happen to snag pictures and video of 1218 at the top, and if anyone knows if 191 ever joined the 30 point climb club?

Also, if I can be directed towards pictures and video of 30 point corner climbers that aren't 16 or 118 that would be very helpful! Thanks!

4451 has a beautiful 50 point climb+dump at Palmetto. Absolutely awesome.

4451 (Robotz Garage) did have a very nice climb from the side and ending up approximately under the middle of the pyramid. 3196 (Team SPORK) also had a nice climb up the corner with a 3 or 4 disk dump depending on how many discs they successfully loaded.

Did anyone get video of either of these?

We barely bothered to climb. They found putting more shots in the goal was more worthwhile than getting 10 points from hanging.

Wait, is your inside corner only a 10 pt climber?

It can go to 30. It needs to be adjusted. The practice bot was the one you saw in the video (http://s50.beta.photobucket.com/user/X-Cats/media/MVI_9394_zps4e5e70c9.mp4.html?sort=6&o=3) doing the deed. The tower isn't designed correctly so the robot would not have been able to execute the 30 point hang (the goal is too low).

at BAE GSR, Team 213 climbed for thirty in 6 out of our ten matches, we got twenties on other 4,as we let two other teams climb once each and slipped below the line one time.

We decided early on in practice day to eliminate our wheels and went as a dedicated climber. we started in autonomous, and climbed with pneumatic.

First time we ever went with no wheels and came in at a whooping 51.1 pounds.

Proud to say that Team 4014 had a very successful time climbing the pyramid. :) We think that our climbing mechanism is the only one of its type at the moment (it acts like an acrobat). It didn't fail once on us which was great... We also accumulated the highest amount of climb points of all the teams at our regional (330 Climb Points and ended up in rank 8). What was very suprising was that we were the only bot there that could clear the 20 point bar and fit into the 30 point zone and the 1ST one in Cali to do it! So many awesome robots this year, was a great competition!

Here is a cool video shot from the stands of our bot climbing to 30 points:

Thank you all so much for all of the kind words. I cannot thank my team enough for all of the hard work and dedication put into this season. We surpassed our goal of completing this season with a driving working robot and completed a successful 30 point climbing robot. Thank you all for all of the help and for allowing us to become a contender for years to come. Thanks to Purple Haze team 418 and the Gatorzillas team 2936 for accepting to be on alliance 4 with a sophomore as the alliance captain/driver. Our rookie year at Lone Star regional was a complete success placing 6th in qualifying and making it to the semifinals. Thanks!

We (2013) made multiple sucessfull 30 point climbs at gte, also trying to make a double 30 point climb with our alliance partner 2994, which was unsuccessfull, but our alliance did get a total of 60 climb points in one match with us getting 30, 2994 getting 20 and 781 getting 10 against, 1114, 2056 and 1325.

Also to note that the robots must be able to overcome the tolerances of the pyrimids (which are not precise) which is the reason we cannot always make our 30 point climb along with other robots because the angle of every corner could be different

GSR pyramids where very strong. We made our robot to be a very tight fit once up on the 30 point rail. The pyramid bars would separate by about 1", never to a point where it would affect our climb. We would swing on the second bar to a point the crowd thought we would fall off.

In the FIRST competition you have to realize that nothing is within tolerances. You have to make your robot to overcome big tolerances. Everybody I saw that ran up to the first bar to hang could not in the beginning due to the height of the lower bar. But most if not all fixed that problem. So teach the team to adapt to anything that could happen to the field or rules. It will make a better and less stressful time.

Both 2359 & 1763 hit 30 multiple times at GKC. 1810 did a climb & dump in match 24 and had a 50-point climb & dump in QF 1-2; I don't know if those were their only two.

2359 won the Creativity Award for their climbing mechanism, particularly on their rollers that allowed them to both hold a climb & re-position themselves horizontally along the bar. This allowed them to not have to worry about precise positioning when they started. Both the award presentation & the team member I talked to made a point of noting that it was a freshman that came up with the idea.

1763 was the #1 pick of the 6th alliance captain.

Sorry about the poor quality; it's an extreme crop of a wide-angle shot showing that both 1806 & 1810 scored in the pyramid in that match. SWAT's climb is only to 20, so it wasn't a double-double. And unfortunately they didn't have all 4 disks loaded, so 1810 outscored them in the end game.

IMG_5721 shows dedicated 30-point climbers in GKC. Neither made it to the top in this match; 1763 stopped at 20 and 2359 ran out of time. This is a good view of their rollers.

IMG_5864 shows 1763 in match 58 in the GKC qualifiers. This would have won the match; the opposing alliance scored a total of 22 (12 disk, 10 climb).

Unfortunately, I don't have a pick of 2359 at the top, but given their climbing score of 340 they obviously got there more than once.

3971 successfully climbed to Level 3 numerous times(at least 5) during the North Carolina Regional.

I will try to find a picture since their robot has no wheels.

3319 also had a no drive train climber at the NC. regional. We climbed the corner of the pyramid for 30pts 7 times and 20pts 2 times. we had the highest climb score of the regional with 310.

The Saint Louis Regional was able to add on 4 new members into the 30 point climb club, 1182, 2838, 4256, and the rookie inspiration award winning team 4646.

Well, sort of for team 2838. One match we pulled up to the the 30 point zone, however either our bumpers caught on the pyramid or our wheels couldn't quite clear the second rung so we only received 20 points. v_v
...then our bot partially broke so we couldn't try to repeat the climb.

Either way, all of the 30 point climbers at the STL regional did great! I'm really happy that the rookie team 4646 got the Rookie Inspiration Award and could successfully pull off corner-based climbs!

Team 453 does a 3 level climb in about 30-45 seconds every time. However we ran into trouble because of the field floor being off. The rule designated 30 inches of clearance between each rungs, but on the first one it is only 29 1/4 inches. This messed up our original swinging and we had to take all of friday to fix it. But we do climb excellently now! So excited for troy athens

Thanks Roboteers. Can't say enough about your robot and team. As for our team's emotions about your finals-3 match... let's just all look forward to Crossroads where we all expect you to be very strong again.

1259 joined the club in their next match if memory serves. Maybe there is a 120 point climb and dump combination out there. Would like to be in (or at least see) that.

For us, in 4143, we ended up with 5 straight 30pc in qualifying, then 2 more in quarters in a losing effort against... who was it again? Grin. We had one other 30pc and a 20 and 10 where we chose to stop (drivers smartly saw no need for the risk based on scores in those matches). Most of our climbs come with a 4 disc dump for 50 total on the pyramid. All in all a great weekend for the team. It was a long way from stress free getting here though. Tough challenge all the way around this year.

This is a good observation Aren. It is interesting to see how many more teams chose the 30 point hang over the 7 disc autonomous. After win-loss record, the first scoring item to break ties is autonomous score. Since autonomous score is seen as the second most important to winning a match, I would think that teams would put more effort towards this goal.

The consensus I've gotten from climbing teams is that 2012 scared a lot of teams away from shooting game pieces.

If anybody you wants to see a good climber match, watch qual 55 from Wisconsin. I don't think the video is up anywhere yet, but I'm sure it will be.
There were 4 outside corner climbing robots. 3 on blue. 1 on red. 4143 (blue) climbed and dumped for 50. 2481 (blue) tried to slow down 1714 (red) because their climb was slower. Both ended up climbing for 30. 1259 (blue) didn't get their climber working until their next qualification match. Or maybe they we were just scared to get on the pyramid :). Blue scored 127 and didn't shoot a single teleop disc (except for the 4 pyramid dumps). Match ended with 2 bots at the top of blue and 1 on the top of red.

A side note to climbing teams. Make sure the refs give you the points. There was once where I think they forgot to count the pyramid discs. I don't think it affected anything. When you have to use the belay system on 2 or 3 bots, the field crew has a lot to do.

It's really hard to verify the pyramid discs get counted because differences between the hand count and the scales can shadow the addition of pyramid discs.

I know a least once where they forgot to give climb points. In quarters 2 match 2, blue climbed for 50 points but final match score showed 20 climb points. Our driver went to the question box. The ref acknowledged the mistake, but didn't change anything because the outcome didn't change.

Wisconsin had a ton of great climbers and the crowd loved it. The only thing louder than the crowd cheering a climber to the top, was the groan of a 20 point dismount.

As correctly posted above, TJ2 was able to successfully climb the pyramid and dump for 50 points numerous times throughout the Boston Regional. Even though during Saturday's qualification matches we had climbing trouble, we were gratefully picked by the excellent alliance of 846 and 3137. Our alliance eventually reached the finals to face the unstoppable force of 125, 126 and 1511, where we finally were able to reach the top of the pyramid for the 50 point climb and dump for the first time in the elimination matches. Although we lost the match, we were happy to finally complete our strategy at the most perfect and critical time possible. The recorded live stream of the very exciting finals can be seen here:

1259 hit the 30 pt climb with the 20 pt dump! We didn't get it working 100% consistently in time for our match with 4143 and 2481, which was disappointing, but we hit it in most of our matches after that with the only exceptions being instances where we were defended and left with no time.

I didn't count the time it takes us to line up. We didn't dump for 20 in this match because the plan was to clog up their loading zone. 2826's feeder jammed in this match so it wasn't as competitive as we were expecting.

Hi guys! I've witnessed a few climbers at the Queen City Regional 2013 matches. I saw quite a few climb to the 30 mark. Our robot also climbed to 30 and dumped 4 Frisbees into the pyramid goal, we made it to the quarterfinals and climbed to 30 both of our rounds successfully. As has already been mentioned TJ^2 (FRC 88) got several 30 pt climbs at Boston and dumped Frisbees at least 3 times including in the Finals.

We might also be the only second team so far to dump 4 Frisbees in the top goal but not score any climb points when we fell off the top of the pyramid (http://vimeo.com/62467238).

Team 2013 was the first to the top in all three of their regionals (GTRE, Boston, and GTRW). We can climb to the top in approximately 20 seconds, excluding line up time. In one match we broke and jammed one of our chains and were able to "limp" to the pyramid and climb to 30, thanks to the ability of our driver. The Gnomes season is unfortunately over. GO GNOMES!
