View Full Version : Class of 2013 - FIRST Dean's List

So, as the Week 1 Regionals are ending today, I'm going to start the new thread for the new and incoming class of Dean's List Finalists! It's amazing to see the 29 other members from the 3 classes of winners previous (Classes of '10, '11, & '12), and see the individual impacts that each of them have made to their own communities and FIRST.
But, it's not just the 20 that make up the Dean's List as a group.
There have been over 300 deserving students over the past four years that have been designated Dean's List Finalist members for their participation & service within FRC, FIRST as a whole, and their own teams/schools/communities/states/nations. And each one of them have made and are hopefully continuing making a large impact on our culture and generation. So, let's see what happens this year!
If you can, just PM me or post on the thread of the Dean's List students from your individual regionals, and we'll keep a running tally on the thread of the students. Or if you're an avid fan of Twitter like me, tweet when it happens! You can tweet me directly (@iamlegend360); or we could use a hashtag (#itsthedeanslist, maybe?)
Congrats to the incoming class of 2013, and GO FIRST!
-Kyle J., Member of Peachtree & Championship Classes of 2010
P.S. I will post the results of the Week 1 regionals by the end of the day. I will also say that if you have been accepted to the Dean's List Finalist Class, find us on Facebook and request an invite into the group.

Both finalists from GSR this year were from team 1519, Mechanical Mayhem. I know one is Aaron Peterson, but I unfortunately forget the other's name. If someone else could remind me of his name that would be great!
The Finalist from Hub City was Hiro Goodson from 1817 and me (Jay Urban) from 1986.
Hey! These are the 2013 finalists from the Finger Lakes Regional:
Lissa Brautigam from FRC1551, and
Ciana Robertson from FRC1511!
Thanks for putting this together again, Kyle!

Thank you for the update. When the Dean's List awards were being announced, we were still running back from getting the team picture taken from the EI award, so we missed hearing the Dean's List intro and the first announcement, and David's team number. We were still in the aisles when Alice was named (to her complete surprise).

Thank you for the updates so far!
There is a misspelling for the WPI winner:
Should be Anna Sklenar.
Also... this is a call for all 2013 Finalists interested in a Dean's List Finalist tshirt:
I am coordinating them again this year, and will be producing a final design after week 7 results. Names will appear as posted here unless noted otherwise!
We're looking at a $15 flat rate per shirt which may be reduced pending more interest. So far I've got the interest of about 20 finalists.
Order information will follow.
Please answer "yes" to the FIRST Dean's List Finalist tshirt poll on Facebook so I can get a better headcount.
If you have not been added yet, friend me on fb, and we'll fix that!
If you don't have an FB, message me here, or shoot me an email!

Guys, we're working on compiling all of the essays from finalists & winners to create profiles on our website at itsthedeanslist.wordpress.com! If you are a current finalist, send us your essay at frc.deans.list@gmail.com along with a photograph, your team name, and team number! If you are a past finalist and/or winner, send us the same; also, if applicable, the college/university you are/will be attending.
Thanks so much!

Congratulation to Caleb Strutton from FRC Team 3350 as a Dean’s List Finalist. He was the second winner at the Dallas Regional.
From the FIRST Blog
"The Dean’s List Finalist that Got Away
In FRC, we would like “all the events to be above average”, with no mistakes needing to be fixed later. While we work hard for this, the real world often intrudes in our plans. At the Dallas Regional a few weeks ago, we had one of those real-world intrusions. While we were supposed to identify two Dean’s List Finalists, only one was selected. After the event, and upon realizing our mistake, the judges conferred and picked Caleb Strutton from Team 3350 as a Dean’s List Finalist. Caleb will now join Joshua Thomas from Team 704 as the two finalists from Dallas who will be competing in St. Louis to become one of the ten Dean’s List Winners. Caleb, if you are out there, I’m very sorry you didn’t get the recognition you certainly deserved at the event! Best of luck in St. Louis!"
