1540 is really excited for Oregon this year! Since we posted our reveal video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=viWRff_CwTA), we've made some pretty significant changes that we'll be putting on Inferno on Thursday (they shouldn't take too much time to do). Our drivers have been practicing like crazy in preparation, and we wait for it all to start.

FIRST team 4057 is excited for this years Autodesk regional! We have a new robot to play with and cant wait to see some of the designs other teams have had. Here is a quick link to what is in store from us. A Youtube link is attached as well to our shooter in action:

Portland is going to be amazing. SpitFire has been practicing all week, and Phantom is in the bag waiting for us. We have some good tricks up our sleeve :)

I was wondering when this thread would get rolling. :D It should be fun getting to see everyone once again this year. It will be strange not competing with Skunkworks (1983) in Portland. I can't wait to compete with all the other usual characters and what looks like a strong rookie presence based on the responses to this thread and rumours I have heard. 33 hours till load in!

Does anyone know if there will be a live streaming of the event or if someone will be recording the matches?

Stream should be at http://www.oregonfirst.org/go/streaming-video/
We're excited to be competing in Portland again after our visit to Texas last year; but it'll be weird missing Seattle :)
We've got some tweaking to get done on Thursday, but we're excited to put our robot through its paces.

Ok, Thanks Madison.
We've got quite a bit of work to do on Thursday as well... we usually can pull it off by Saturday morning though, as is our teams tradition :P

here are some videos of 2471 and 488's robots (i hope they don't mind my posting them here).

I'd like to see a bear metal video, the blog certainly isn't explicit enough, nor are the pictures telling a full story.
Can't wait to spectate on Saturday. I'll be wearing my Mean machine shirt :)
Does anyone know if the matches will be archived? I would love to be there, but I'm about 2000 miles away and in the middle of finals. ;)

Yeah, most will be on Youtube within a week. Also check http://www.thebluealliance.com/
Wishin' I was there too. Matches aren't nearly exciting this year as the past few years....

I didn't see Q-39 - why does it need to be replayed?

Match Q67, 360 appeared to be touching 488 at the end of the match when 488 was hanging. It appears this caused 488 to be touching the floor. I wonder why no foul was called?
Based on what I saw, 360 rolled into 488 after the match had ended and did not do so under their own power, but rather because of momentum. I believe that 488 was credited with their 10 point hang even if they were touching the ground. That's the only rationale I come see for why the penalty wasn't assessed. To be honest, I was surprised myself, although not necessarily unhappy about it...

If anyone is interested in seeing it, we've posted our 2013 Chairman's video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XoiMJ5dWlnw
Even though we were a disappointed with our robot performance, winning Chairman's made all of our efforts worth it. It truly is an honor to win such a prestigious award. We hope that by sharing our video, it will inspire others to continue to work hard to spread the ideals of FIRST as we've come to love them.

We wondered this, too. :(
The explanation we received was that the contact happened after the match had ended and that fouls can only occur during a match. Despite the contact, we were still not touching the ground. Roxie called NH and they upheld her decision. I don't agree with the call, but it is what it is.
Given the explanation we received and that scoring is not tabulated until 5 seconds after a match has ended should objects remain in motion, it is conceivable that a robot could coast into a robot that has hung / coast into the pyramid and knock down robots and create a circumstance wherein no fouls are assessed and the hanging points are not awarded.

Those had to be some of the greatest finals I have seen in Oregon in a while. All the more reason we love Portland. Congratulations to 955,2471 and 2046 on a well deserved win.

Well as both a member of 360 and someone that was watching the match behind the corner I watched the roll into 488. Looked at the score and assumed we would be penalized for contact. It was a pretty physical match we both came out limping.
When the score came up I raised an eyebrow, once I heard the same explanation that Madison heard I was both happy ( this was a deciding factor in the match) and concerned. I suddenly pictured teams building strategies on this idea.
488 has always had the respect of Washington teams, and I hope from my team especially.
I do look forward to what rises from the minds of 488 for central Washington in a few weeks.

We are deciding the extent to which we are going to rebuild our machine. We had too many bugs in our system to be a reliable player. When the robot works, it works well, but that was only about 1/3 of the time.
We're looking at massive changes to our intake and storage system to eliminate as many of the mechanical failure points as possible and to greatly simplify the programming.
We're also planning to change the way our bumpers mount to make that system something better than the incredibly stupid thing we have in place now. Upon further thought, I realized that our bumpers did nothing to insulate our frame from the force of that collision and, in fact, the corner of the bumper concentrated the load on the frame cross member and probably was what caused it to completely fail.
We love you guys and were really excited to see you had such a great event. Looking forward to seeing it again in two weeks, but maybe this time we'll be there alongside you having a great event of our own. :)
The Bots of Prey had a great time at the Autodesk Regional and I wish I wasn't in the pit so much and had a chance to make it around to see/meet more of the folks that post here!
Great finals and great teams as always!
