You can do A LOT with a 30 lb withholding allowance. Definitely looks like they could have an over the bumper intake from the back.

There is a gap in the rear bumper it looks like, positioned more on the shooter side of the robot. I would imagine a floor loader would fit there.

What about the rear of the bumper on the right side of the picture? It steps up at the back end. Could there be a floor pickup from the corner? It could tie in with that gap at the back. Looking in the reflection there seems to be some rollers on the top. I could be mistaken however.
The coolest part of this picture for me?
The Chairman's Clock. :)
Can't wait to see the robot in action - that looks pretty neat, too.

You are correct, the "climber" (red plate attached to the lead screw) looks to rotate up then go out to grab on to the first level. All in all looks like it will be another force to be reckoned with.

Underneath climber puts you in a great spot for that pyramid goal too.
It looks like some sort of storage "bin" instead of an indexed hopper and a BAG to rapid load the 3 wheeled linear shooter.
Can't find the floor loader, but I wouldn't bet there isn't one. Probably one of five bots that "can do everything"

So, I may be crazy, but what if there just isn't a floor loader? It doesn't look like there is one, because there may well not be one. Sure, if they find a use for one, 1114 could come up with one and add it on in later competitions. But maybe, like many teams, they went without. I think we all expect 1114 to come out and do everything very well, but I would bet money that even without a floor-pickup, that bot is capable of many many wins. Maybe this time 1114 went for simple, lightweight and elegant, trading off an unneccesary feature in favor of allocating resources elsewhere. I look forward to seeing it in action

If history is any indication, 1114 will have won most of their matches by the time autonomous is over.
That requires a floor loader. I'd be more willing to bet that they built an invisible floor loader than that they'd give up on autonomous bonus points.

Karthik himself (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1236900#post1236900) has stressed the importance of autonomous this year, particularly floor pickup. He also expects, "a huge supply of discs on the floor." I would say floor pickup is a near certainty.

I'm not saying autonomous isn't important or denying the advantage floor pickup could bring. And yes, it would be unlike 1114. From what I saw at week 1, consistent autonomous programs gave a huge lead even with no extra discs. I'm just entertaining the idea that maybe, just maybe, they actually went without it.
It could also be possible that the picture doesn't have a floor-loading mechanism because they have something similar to 1986's arm and it just isn't mounted. If the area below the shooter is actually a "gate" that can be used to human load, it could in theory be used to collect discs from the pickup arm. But I didn't design the robot, so I really don't know. In any event, we shall see in a few days.

So, I may be crazy, but what if there just isn't a floor loader?
The only reason behind 1114 not having a floor loader is that they have developed some sort of anti-gravity field around the robot that makes the discs float up and in to the shooter.
It's actually more likely.

I'm surprised that no ones mentioned the 4 air tanks featured prominently in the photo. To me, this implies a 30 point climb that involves a lot of pneumatic actuation.

Or they had weight left and wanted "MOAR STORAGE".

Does 1114 have to have an intake? I don't think it's a prerequisite to being a top team this year.
Or they had weight left and wanted "MOAR STORAGE".
Or they have an off board compressor, and need pneumatics for every time they shooter/shift, like last year.
Does 1114 have to have an intake? I don't think it's a prerequisite to being a top team this year.
I know at least one elite team opted to skip the intake, but it seems like a no-brainer to have one. For the elite, a ground pickup is simpler and (usually) more valuable than a 30-point climber. 4 extra discs in auton (if you have time to develop, hence focus on elite) plus even just one more load of discs is more than 30 points. Plus, auton is time you're wasting unless you do extra discs. Climbing is time you could spend shooting more discs! Unless they run out. Which may happen. Not dissing climbing. Just a comparative thing.
The only time an effective ground pickup isn't so valuable is when you're an ultra-high accuracy, unblockable full-court shooter or if you and all your partners and all your opponents will never miss a shot. And it doesn't look like 1114 is tall enough to be unblockable. And even then, auton, man.
So, yeah, I would be really surprised if they can't pick up discs from the ground. Would love to see a counter-argument. I've definitely seen intaking robots that'd be better off going to the feeder station, but no doubt a Simbot pickup would be pretty quick.
Does 1114 have to have an intake? I don't think it's a prerequisite to being a top team this year.
... I certainly would hope you think this way, since that is the strategy your team picked!
FIRST really made it hard for "doitallbots" this year.

It looks as if they are using wide wedgetop wheels. (Look through the two lowest holes on the rightside of the picture.)
I'm not the only one that finds it comical they named it after BA Baracus, given their alliance's Championship moniker last year, right?
Also: TEASE. Guaranteed this robot has a floor pickup. I would be nothing short of blown completely away if it didn't after everything Karthik has said throughout build of the value of the floor pickup.
Observation: This is likely their practice bot, and not the one that is sitting in a bag right now. The last few years, 1114's bots have had substantially more powdercoat than this.

Interesting that the hanger is powdercoated, maybe they pulled that as part of the 30lb allocation?

I wouldn't necessarily say they have a floor pickup. Who knows the value of floor pickup better than someone who's making due without it?
Besides, maybe they were encouraging other teams to make a floor pickup (maybe at the cost of climbing past a quick 10) so they have more ideal alliance partners.
I don't think the picture says too much about 1114's robot at this point, rather than it shoots Frisbees, has pneumatics, drives, and climbs.

On the other hand, in response to 118's robot that can floor load, slot load, shoot and climb for 30: "Simply outstanding. I love it when teams are able to pull off what conventional thinking has defined as "impossible". (Think 71-2001, 71-2002, 469-2010)". (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1238537&postcount=98). Maybe they felt a robot that does everything well is would not be possible/preferable?
Looks like another awesome robot that I cannot wait to watch this season. Floor loading or not, I'm sure it will be one of the best.

As stated by someone else above, 1114 wins a great majority of their matches before Autonomous is even over. The last time they didn't have an 'extra' game piece auto was 2009, and 2006 before that. (2012: Coop or Alliance Bridge, 2011: alliance mate's ubertube, 2010: climb the bump and shoot the middle segments balls too, 2008: both trackballs, 2007: alliance mate's keeper)
With a comparatively easy 'extra' game piece auto available this year, with a massive point bonus for being successful at it? There's just no way they aren't taking advantage.

They probably do have floor collection, but it's not out of the realm of possibility that they don't.
I think the best thing to do is treat this like one of the GDCs game hints, and given they will be on the field by sometime Friday, just tune in to Greater Toronto's stream.

I think 2056 and 4334 have two of the other 3...
I see some tanks (Unplumbed by the looks of it). If you look at the 2008 glass panel, you can see what looks like a curvature to their shooter, but then the wheels are at the top corner. ?.? Never before have I wanted so many details. As far as the floor pick up goes, it would make sense if it were in the back right (looking at it head on), but it doesn't quite look like it's a break in the bumpers, but more so that the the "split" we see is just the fact they only have two bumpers.

In addition to the lack of floor pickup:
They dedicated more power (4 rs550s) to their shooter than their climber (2 cims).
Looks like it should be capable of pyramid shots while climbing.

Their specs on the website don't say anything about a floor pickup.
Also, you can tell by reading their specs that their robot is VERY close to the weight limit. If it wasn't, they probably would have powdercoated the whole thing. I don't think they could fit a floor pickup within their weight limit even if they wanted to. That's not meant to take away from the robot (which looks fantastic), it's just an observation.

Perhaps they decided to remove something so they could add a floor pick-up. They could have decided the auton bonus was maybe a little more valuable than they originally thought.

The hopper is on the same plane as the shooter. From a top view, it is a big U, frisbees go in one side, out the other.

Wow, that ascent was ridiculous.
Have there been any other 30 point climbs at GTRE? The only other match I've been able to catch so far was the 182-point one, I was expecting 2056 to have one.

That climb...:) I love the passive extend/active retract. Nice job, guys!
I was pleasantly surprised when Karthik told me their double stage arm had some design inspiration from a blast from the past - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2Ofe-B4rSw&list=PL451A5331A7D37056. This is still my favorite series of match videos from one of my favorite events ever - Karthik's "puppy hopped up on caffeine" vs. Tyler's "I must break you" death stare is classic!

2013, and 2994 almost hit it.

So...looks like the new time to beat is a 13 second climb :ahh:
Wow, 1114, 2056 and 1325 just put up 191 points.

Your climber is just unreal. With 20 seconds left on the clock, you shoot a set of discs and then proceed to climb, hitting 30 pts with a second left? Amazing.

The belay device is only a safety. It's not supposed to do anything most of the time.
True, however, if 1114's field crew was to drop their robot, the belay would only catch it after it fell ~6". HQ failed to consider the teams that would go for an outside the box solution when designing the belay system.
