Team 907 will be attending the Greater Toronto West Regional, however we are not officially signed up yet. We have not missed the premier Canadian event since its inception in 2002.

I know of quite a few more teams planning to join us at the Hershey Center, including at least 1 more American team, but I'll let them release that on their own accord.

Fun fact: This regional has had 3 different names in its history. 2002 and 2003 it was called the Canadian Regional, but in 2004 Waterloo was added, so it changed to the Greater Toronto Regional. In 2011, a double regional took place, so the event was renamed as the Greater Toronto East and Greater Toronto West regionals. In 2012, GTR East split off and is now its own regional in Oshawa, hence the current Greater Toronto West Regional.

Current team list:

Though we are not signed up yet either 77WHO?! will be returnign to the Hershey Center once again! and also we are another team that has never missed a regional at the Hershey Center. With Smoky Mountains the same weekend this was almost our first time that we would miss it. However we made the decision to come to GTR over SMR.

We are very proud to be bringing a long a few new rookie teams from the Windsor area. These are the first rookie teams we have ever started, so we are proud of our accomplishment. 1 of our rookies is going to Waterloo because they were unable to make it to GTR West on this weekend.

Teams
4595 - Panthers
4688 - Saints (previous school of FRC Team 776, who competed until 2004)
4716 - Purple Raiders

our 4th team is 4647 - Vista Vortex Competing at Waterloo.

WOHOO, i am so pumped about GTR West.

We also have kept the tradition and not have missed a single regional at Hershey Center. We really wanted to go to Waterloo but the regional is now full :'(

But we are also making some arrangements and there is a possibilty we may go to GTR East.

WOHOO
Hope to see all the wonderful teams in Canada at GTR West ::safety::

I think you mean since your teams existence you have never missed one, which since 2007 you have been to all of them. Us and 907, i believe other teams like 188 and 610, have been to every FIRST Robotics Regional that was held at the Hershey Centre. So since 2002 we have always been to the regional there.

Can't wait for GTR West and Waterloo this year! They're gonna be great!

EDIT: neither 610 or 188 have been to every GTR event at the Hershey centre.

Team 1325 has also never missed a GTR west regional (since our founding) and will be returning in 2013!
As for what we have been doing over the summer? We have overhauled our strategy and design methodology and are building a new drive train as we speak :D.
Good luck to all teams, and we will see you in Mississauga!

Unfortunately Team 1514 the Vikes will not be attending any games this year:ahh:

But on a side note, one of mentors is going to try and learn Labview so when the team starts back up their will be someone on the team that can help us poor students out.:D

It's too great a regional not to have more American teams come and witness how awesome a regional it is.

That great. We have recently made Robotics, as a course that is offered to our students. Currently in that class, the students are building two robots with different design concepts, with a purpose of to see which design system works the best and in what condition.

Aside from that, we have also started to think of a possible drive train to be used for the 2013 season, we call it Ramzdrive, LOL

1482 won't be able to make it out to the GTR this year, due to the time proximity to the new Western Canada regional. I'm happy that we've got a regional going over here, but I'll be sad to not go to this always great regional. We've been going to Toronto every year since 04 (though in 2011 we went to the East regional), it'll be a shame to miss some of the best Canadian teams. You guys should come out here, we could use some more veteran Canadian teams. Right now, half of the teams registered are rookie teams. We've still got 11 spots open! [this concludes the regional advertisement :p]

GTR-West is at the top of FRC 2656's list for a second Regional. We currently don't have the funding, but the kids are working hard on it. We'd LOVE to come to Canada for this event.

[If we do get the funding, we'd like to talk to teams that cross the border about logistics. Not sure what all we need as far as passports and/or other regulations.]

As will 3756! We have attended the Waterloo regional the past two years, but are swapping to GRT West this year so that we can go with one of our rookie teams (who we are also sharing work space with due to the strikes).
I will most likely be attending Waterloo to help along our other rookie team as well, so I will get to be in on the action at both competitions!

Being a private school, are Trafalgar Castle's teachers even subject to the strike?

I would expect 1547 to participate even if they were, but I'm pretty sure this is a public sector battle that won't affect the private school teams (like 1547, 610, and the now defunct 2361) at all, no?

1241-GTR East Engineering Inspiration Award winners
1305-Waterloo Chairmans Award winners
1310-Waterloo Wildcard
1325-GTR East winners
1503-Pittsburg winners
2056-GTR East, Waterloo winners, Waterloo Engineering Inspiration Award winners
3756-Waterloo wildcard
4069-Waterloo winners

This should be interesting.

So I've been playing around with the data and watching the competition all day and wrote a quick script to "predict" winners of each match. So far it is working quite well, maybe it will be of use to people (Note: this is not my team's analysis, I'm not with them right now as I've graduated high school):

Public available data for the regional so far. The current rankings and standings and some "heuristics" (really bad guesses, maybe not that bad, i don't really know).

Well, that didn't answer my question at all.

No where near as complicated as OPR (I just did something simple as I created the spreadsheet in ... 15 minutes?). Used all local data (just from this competition, not scouting data... so everything is binned).

Very simple heuristics: Pretty much just added up a normalized version of each team's points as listed in their standings and then added the teams' together.

So this is probably wrong, but then my cross-validation set did fairly well.. (although i don't have a lot of that either) so I'm rolling with it for now.

I wish I had our scouting data.. but then I'm 500km away on a computer... so..

If so... seems... wrong, but its predicting with reasonably good accuracy.

Pretty much and IDK if the second statement is a statement or a question.?

It's predicting with reasonably good accuracy so maybe something is right. Proceed with caution. I'm looking around for more data... but I don't want to dig through historical records because this is more of a fun project for me to procrastinate on.

The predictions on tomorrow's matches seems to be following what intuitions (mine, some people I know) say.. so maybe there's some merits to this.

We shall find out tomorrow.

My favorite match number was my favorite match of the day. Tough, hard fought battle, but 1310's alliance's defence (shock and amazement) was just effective enough to get the job done.

These matches are awesome, I love watching Canada play.

I was watching 1114's matches, and I noticed in match 30 it looks like their 30 point climb should have been ruled as invalid. As they lift their arm up to grab the first corner bracket, they appear to be off alignment slightly, and the claw hits the side of the upright pole, which is technically in level 2. This puts them in contact with level 0, 1, and 2 simultaneously. Does anyone else see the same thing or am I crazy? Here's the match:
http://www.watchfirstnow.com/archive3.php?id=62954250

I don't know what the final scoring was, so the ref's could have ruled the climb invalid. Can't tell from the scoring.

Also, 1114 is consistently hitting 20 second cycle times. It's a beautiful thing to see.

Congratulations to the winning alliance, to 1114 and 2056, thanks for all the assistance when we thought all was lost.
We wish you the best at the World Championship, you have some serious BOT to kick!
To the other Canadian Teams we cheer for you, I know we could do it; as hard as it may seem I would continue with Team 2185, as I would not exclude these kids from the futuristic technology that are at our finger tips.
Thank you FIRST.
We shall be back!

I believe that 771 has joined the rare group of teams to win WFFA, Dean's List Finalist, and the Chairman's award at the same regional.

I don't know what the final scoring was, so the ref's could have ruled the climb invalid. Can't tell from the scoring.

Also, 1114 is consistently hitting 20 second cycle times. It's a beautiful thing to see.

I believe you are correct about this particular climb. The margin of error on the claw grab is relatively small (as it is for many other corner climbers by the way) and it is likely that many other climbs with similar corner climbers could be occasionally making contact with the second level corner upright. It is also highly unlikely it will ever be called as it is hard for a ref to see slight contact between claw and bar from the distance away they are standing and during what is sometimes a fast action process. Regardless, this performance and many others rightfully continue to impress:)

I think he's talking about match 48. Where 1310 was predicted to win against 2056 by the system and actually did.

The spreadsheet was created after the 1310 vs 2056 match - I don't think we can definitively prove it was a predicted win.

In rare situations we can contact level 2 while still in contact with the ground. In these cases we always legally restart our climb by ceasing to touch level 2, while remaining in contact with level 0. The following Q&A details the process for legally restarting a climb.

https://frc-qa.usfirst.org/Question/357/when-is-a-section-3-1-5-2-invalidated-climb-considered-restarted-from-level-0-is-touching-level-0-sufficient-or-must-the-bot-also-stop-touching-level-1

When we actually leave the ground the geometry of our arm makes it impossible to be touching the vertical pole in level 2; our claw is only hooked to the knuckle of the pyramid.
