I would imagine if they were infront of the shooter; while they would take a meeting; they should be able to absorb a lot of the inertia from the disc; significantly lowering the velocity of the disc. This would be especially useful if blocking a full-field shooter as even a small change in the discs flight path would cause it to miss the high goal, and potentially even the middle goals.
