I was Wondering, What are Your Guys's Favorite Songs to Listen to While Working? :o

I prefer the calm sentiment encapsulated from the classical variety of music.

In the Air Tonight, by Phil Collins. This song, on an infinite cycle loop, for all 15 weeks of season.

I agree I prefer Calm music but sometimes I tend to hear Energetic Music; It helps Motivate!

A song that Seems to Motivate a lot of people would be
Can't Hold Us - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

Remember the Name - Fort Minor
It's practically our theme song at this point.

Favorite Work Song? How about the Finest Worksong (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finest_Worksong)?

Anyway, I don't have a favorite song, but almost any music is better than silence at robotics.

Classic rock is usually on during build season...until someone decides to hijack the audio system and play Internet meme radio.

On Saturdays during build season, our drive train lead and I count time in musicals-- we started this the third week of this season, and listened through Les Miserables, Wicked, Next to Normal, and Phantom of the Opera several times each (including one memorable day when we got through Les Mis five full runthroughs-- that was a looooong day). There's nothing like showtunes playing when you're CAD-ing.

Needless to say, there are many sing-along moments.

When working in the engineering shop, anything with a fast tempo that pumps you up!

Can't Hold Us by Macklemore
Titanium by David Guetta
Feel So Close by Calvin Harris
etc.

For robotics, we play anything and everything.
For working and motivating our fellow comrades we have the music of the people!

And yes, we actually do play this...

Our team enjoys jazz, blue grass, sea shanties, and pretty much anything than comes on the speakers. :)

The kids in our build crew put on various new alternative bands while working, but when it's time to truly get something done our main mentor puts in this old Southern Rock Compilation CD. At first the build captain hated it - you could actually hear his teeth grinding - but it has become so synonymous with productivity that it's now the favorite (but still saved for the very important days). I believe it was born the one late-night session when we revamped our entire robot between 9:30 and 11:30 - since that night, whenever the opening riff of "Sweet Home Alabama" starts playing everyone grabs a wrench.

Artists like Paul Simon are a favourite of our electrical mentor.

And it seems like whenever I walk into our metal shop, Queen is playing... :(

Sorry to all of you Queen Fans, but I can't handle it when Bohemian Rhapsody and Another One Bites the Dust plays every half hour...

Post 7pm on most long Saturdays or post 10pm on long weeknight practices usually starts "Club 930" out in Mukwonago. We just turn on our local club station or one of Pandora's club dance stations. I particularly remember one night dancing on the bumps in 2010 while waiting for code to compile.

There's just something about the wub wub that helps the work flow.

I have to say, I really do love sing-alongs to this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZ5LpwO-An4)
But in all seriousness, nothing beats cutting some aluminum to Boston.

It's become something of a signature for me to have my headphones on my ears but not in them for well, pretty much everything in robotics...so I've developed a few loooooong (100 and 1200 song) playlists, but the best songs are still the ones that are,
1) long! Yes and Genesis epics are the best thing to listen to while doing electronics.
2) LOUD! The more noise the better! Jay Reatard, The Dirtbombs, 90's Sonic Youth, etc.
3) Ridiculous! Today I listened to Nyan Cat four or five times, and robotics isn't complete without at least one Call/Pick Me Maybe, an LMFAO tune, and Friday.

If I could make a "Save the world" playlist for my team, I would without hesitation include Watsky on it. Just from his most recent album, "Cardboard Castles", listen to

Strong as an Oak
Moral of the Story (it's "Work!", according to the hook- powerful stuff)
Tiny Glowing Screens
Sloppy Seconds (which begins with a suckerpunching F-bomb, so brace yourself haha)
Cardboard Castles
and Dent in the Moon

the man is a basket of get-up grenades, and it shows through his life's work both as a rapper and a spoken word artist. He does use profanity, but his lyrics are much more packed than "billboard" rap has come to have. I definitely recommend checking him out if you're looking for a new favorite work song :)

Oh, and just to have a robot-related song that I really like:
"Beta Love" by Ra Ra Riot

@cadandcookies haha yeah, there's always the Les Mis corner

We installed new speakers and an amp for $50 this year. They sound great. We prefer Macklemore (Specifically his new album, The Heist) and
Mac Miller. But, depending on who's laptop/phone is playing music, you might find anything from country to Ska-Punk like Streetlight Manifesto. Oh, and no First-er's playlist is complete without the "dope" music of Will.I.Am.

3043 pretty much played anything by Daft Punk while I was there.

Right now, what is essentially 4301's theme song is "Scientist" by Flux Pavilion.

It really is impossible to pick a single song, and for me even a list...

I can't even compile a list because I am too worried about missing out on some stuff.

However, a site I have discovered recently plays excellent music that really fits a work environment (or any other environment). The songs they choose might not be things you would play for casual listening, but they add to the work environment (e.g help you focus): http://songza.com/ The working playlists that they offer have really kept me focused.
