Modern Art - FIRST Robotics style!
The robotics demonstration took a turn for the bizarre when a bewildered pest control team came to eradicate the spiders reported by a well-meaning but confused concierge at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

For the VIP Luncheon center piece, FRC Team 418 decided to make a full scale model of the Game Piece. The hotel was not amused.
Guy in Black: Do you think they will let us come back when there's a water game?

All present agreed that if they were to try this game again in four years, it would make much more sense if it involved pieces shaped like the FIRST logo and small, deployable minibots.
"So I'm guessing this means no square dancing this week."
The hotel pool staff was wondering where all their flotation devices were, until they checked the ballroom.
Was that a human that did that? Because that would be cool!
It was a robot? Oh, no big deal.

You thought the 2^x scoring was hard to understand? Here we see the GDC's first idea for scoring at a secret location in NH. They invited an international panel of judges to give scores to the designs on the rack based on artistic merit.
MC: "7, 6, 8, 7, and a 2 from the Bulgarian judge."
GDC: "Time for Plan B"

You know...When you look at this mockup in wood with just the right light you can see that the inspiration came from Woodie's new gazebo in the back yard.

The new breakfast area at the hotel created quite a stir when they unveiled their "donut holder". It was well-accepted by the guests, unlike the "Swimming pool of Coffee"...

If we put a game piece and robot in the hotel, then we don't even have to go sleep in our rooms!
Once upon a time, four teams had the brilliant plan to explain FIRST and the Rack'n'roll game to all their grandmothers at once!

Guy in red shirt: What is all of this? I thought this was the coffee shop!
Guy in black shirt: This is much better. This is our FIRST robotics demonstration. We show kids all about science and technology as a cool career choice. We are changing the culture of today's youth in a very positive way.
Guy in Red shirt: So where's the coffee?
