View Full Version : Pitscouting all Divisions
Just like last year I have assembled a Pit Scouting Doc for every division
Archimedes (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AuF1A5cZW-3sdHg2cDA2M2htQWRrVFRjVkpFN2U5bXc#gid=5) Person in charge: jblay assisted by Grim Tuesday
Curie (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AuF1A5cZW-3sdDYya2czR283UE5uQTJkNkI5SVFQRGc#gid=5) Person in charge:
Galileo (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AuF1A5cZW-3sdC05bzlCeU9OV283MmpvcjVYQ0dEYXc#gid=5) Person in charge: BigJ
Newton (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AuF1A5cZW-3sdFpFME1nOGZOM2VwTDI3QXhvWnphT3c#gid=5) Person in charge: MARS_James
Input the data that you know. If you have any suggested to changes to the format, please don't change them, please suggest them.
This is a collaboration so please help everyone out, hopefully this will be able to make Thursday a little easier on everyone.
If someone could input the teams and team names I would appreciate it, because with the first site being wonky I'm struggling with it.

Done. Also added a few missing teams.
Whoever saved the Galileo spreadsheet from unordered oblivion, I salute you

If I start filling out the spreadsheet will others get to see it? I can fill out my team's on here but if no one can see it then there isn't a point on filling out what I already know :P

These spreadsheets are public. Anyone can view or edit.

Everyone will be able to see it, tis the magic of google.
I've filled in the Max OPR data for Archimedes, can someone do the others? Would anyone like to become in charge of any of the other divisions? I'm mostly going to focus on Archimedes.
Someone put the Stuypulse example row down into the ordered Galileo teams

That's why I need someone to be in charge of every sheet...

If you need any help babysitting Archimedes, I can help.
Why Max OPR instead of Overall OPR?

Why Max OPR instead of Overall OPR?
I would assume because robots tend to get better as the season goes on, we are using Max OPR because it should reflect what their robot will be like at St. Louis.

It can also show weaker events

I will babysit Newton since I put the OPR's down already
Looking into it a little more, I think that the World OPR would be a better stat because it *should* take into account weak/strong events.
Also, if we use it for everyone, it should be just as indicative (if not more so) of a team's best performance.

I (along with maybe some other help from MOE) will be taking the rest of the Archimedes pictures as soon as I get there unless someone else wants to split them up with me. Just let me know. I will be posting them in a google drive folder like I did for Chesapeake (goo.gl/j0TTN) unless soneone has a better storage option.
See everyone there :)
GO MOE!
Can a Height column be added to each?
Can a Height column be added to each?
I assume the purpose of that is for FCS blocking.
The thing is that, that is something any team can do with a pool noodle wall and any team that has something special that goes up can put that in their additional notes column.
Also i'm thinking about changing the link section to just photo to streamline things a bit, the sheets are starting to get very cluttered.
Someone already added a Height column to Galileo's. I assumed it was jblay but i guess not! We also have a "Able to score pyramid discs" column that someone in another division wishes they had, so I'm guessing the columns in each are different by now.

I would like to see dumping added.

There are at least three teams in Archimedes that can score coloured discs from the ground (639, 51, 3003) so I think coloured disc scoring would be a better thing to list than just dumping.

All these suggestions are great but maybe it is the old man in me but it seems like there is way to much in here for a pit scouting. As great as knowing Max OPR Div. Rank District System Score District System Div. Rank is it makes the sheet way to cluttered and has way to much information infact we currently have 29 columns of data, I also hate to be the old man again but it clearly says on the Newton sheet you are supposed to contact me about changes.
My opinion is a pit scouting sheet should contain the following columns (my changes are in bold however I will not forcefully implement them because I am not a dictator):
1. Team #
2. Team Name
3. # Wins/# Events (Gets rid of a column and still accomplishes the same task, I also feel alliance number is pointless since all it says is where you started from which tells you what?)
4. 2013 Record (w-l-t)
5. Drivetrain Type
6. Drive speeds
7. Max/Min Height (Got rid of goes under Pyramid above because we are all smart and if min height is less than thirty Ta Da)
8. Weight
9. Ground Pickup?
10. Human Player Feeds?
11. Auton Positions
12. # of Auton Discs? (1-7) (I got ride of the Put CL columns below as you can just put 5CL or 7CL if you get from the center line)
13. Teleop shooting positions?
14. Shoot in what goal? (1-3, And/Or 5) (Once again got rid of the Score Pyramid Discs number by putting it with another column)
15. Climb Level (0 if none)
16. Shoot Full Court?
17.Max OPR (I got rid of all the data below this since what does the District System Score tell you? They won? already asked above, they win awards? Pointless )
18. Tracker Picture Link (I got rid of the Video Pic link above since it is redundant to have alongside this)
19. Additional Notes
So from 29 columns down to 19 and no data would be lost

I like those changes
Dumping is already included in the climbing section.
I am also trying to avoid anything that you can easily find out from other databases like award wins and record and such. The point of this doc and pit scouting in general is to know the physical capabilities of robots going into matches when you have not yet compiled scouting on them.
I don't want this thing to get cluttered cause we are covering "all of the bases" because that will rapidly make this doc too much and less useful. Instead I want to keep things simple and anything special can be put into the additional notes section.
The point here is to not assemble the most extensive pit scouting doc, but to assemble the most useful, most filled out doc possible.

I am aware, since it is your doc I didn't want to do any major changes. If you check the newton doc you will see the sheet has become exactly what you didn't want my changes above will help if you want me to implement them.

Just want to point out that district points are chosen based on their correlation with success. This is why the #1 pick gets as many points as the #1 captain, and why the industrial design award gets more points than team spirit. It is not a totally useless measure, though as a number, it doesn't tell you much.

But the point of scouting is not to pick the team with the most awards (regardless of what said awards are) it is to pick the best robot for your alliance.

Right. But some Awards correlate strongly with success. Winning the industrial design award is one of the highest predictors of success (right behind being the first pick and being the first seed). I'm not saying that I would use it, the numbers are too noisy for me. But you shouldn't dismiss it out of hand. The points are chosen very specifically and they do tell a story

If this spreadsheet is supposed to be primarily for subjective pit scouting data, that can't be found elswhere, I agree, thin it down to nearly the original concept that was posted by StuyPulse.
I don't suppose you could make the curie sheet pretty like the others?

It looks like someone sorted the Newton spreadsheet. I can't tell what it's sorted on. The teams seem to be all there, but not in numeric team order anymore. :(

I don't know who did it but I fixed it
You can put me down for the Curie spreadsheet.

It would appear that someone has sorted the OPRs on the Galileo spreadsheet, but not the teams that go with them. Correct me if I'm wrong. I also just noticed, Stuypulse has also been removed from the Galileo spreadsheet.
Someone else put the Max OPR's on Galileo multiple times (because people have messed it up multiple times), so I'm assuming they copy/pasted it from somewhere.... If that person is reading this thread could they import them again? Thanks
