At all of our competitions, especially MSC, we've seen many outrageous blockers. Do you guys have any photos of any particularly effective and awesome looking blockers? Thanks.

Our rookies this year, 4716, made a pure defensive bot and blocks full court shooters. They were finalists at GTR west this year, and blocked many teams along the way!

I hate to be that guy, but our robot was pretty darned good at blocking at Razorback...if only our driver had been just a little bit better

team lasar, 3284 if im not mistaken. they have a very powerful drive train and completely shut us down in the finals at st louis regional. normally we'd put up 100 points a match.

We developed a blocker that
A) Allowed us to go under the pyramid
B) Was configurable to 60 or 84 inches
C) Didn't break or weigh a lot.

We used one of those orange poles that go into the ground to mark off where the street ends and elastic.

It started bent back into our bot and flipped out when the shooter was raised, Our philosophy behind it was that you don't need to stop the shots, you only need to throw off the trajectory. There is one match out the where we parked in front of team 503, Frog Force, and negated all Teleop points from them that match.

2054 has a good full court blocker. It extends to around 80", but retracts down so they can still fit under the pyramid. Their defense against cyclers is also very good.

Camdenton 3284 is an amazing blocker! Their net is just an amazing idea that works extremely well. Also they have a very strong drivetrain.

We were a very strong defensive presence as STL also with 3284 being the only robot their that we couldn't shut down.

Here's a video of us blocking 1706 a FCS

We made that net before that match in 15 minutes for the sole purpose of blocking 1706 :) it worked like a charm! We normally could go underneath the pyramid

3284 pushed us around like a rag doll, and you guys did well too! We have a few tricks up a sleeves for championships next weekend, it isnt anything new we didnt show off the crossroads.

We added a "juke" feature, that allows us to start shooting at either 2 point target from the feeder station with a push of a button. The purpose is to just simply shoot around the blocker. We did this because when a robot is between us and a blocker, the blocker cannot legally block all 3 targets.

Also, we changed gear so we're sort of fast and due to our machanums, we strafe sideways to the otherside of the pyramid, shoot 4 into the 3 point, then strafe over. The block bot will not be able to go underneath the pyramid, so they'd have to go around. and If they dont follow us, we start fcs from the unprotected feeder station :D

Watch out. 1706 is hear to play.

We on 3414 added a 80 inch blocker that easily goes under the 60 inches so we can do our normal scoring (averaged over 50 pts at MSC) and block full court shooters when needed.

2834 if I remember right had a good blocker that extended probably 80 or so inches only when needed as well. Seemed to work really well and they used it multiple times.

This is somewhat related:

Who, (other than us), has so far met a full court shooter good enough that a robot could be used to play counter-blocker? We won the Northern lights with King Tec as a robot that specialized in keeping blockers from touching full court shooters. Any reason why I haven't seen many others playing the same strategy?

Look at what happened in MSC F-1 without a blocker and come to your own conclusion! ;)

When we were on an alliance with 1706 our job was to park in front of them and make sure a FCS blocker didn't block their shots. The results were spectactular! 1706 has one of the best FCS i've seen

2495 put on an elevating blocker for this match just to beat 225 and it worked beautifully. One of my favorite matches of the season.

I noticed at Boston, 125 and 126 had 1511 with them, who were able to use their climber as a defensive measure that could extend above the initial height. Without them, 3173's amazing full court shooter may have beat 125 and 126.

We have been blocked by/were attempted to be blocked by:

Aluminum angle
Duct tape
Clementine box netting
Fishing line
PVC
T-shirts
Lexan
Acrylic
Pool noodles
A rake
Wind sock
PVC
A mini hula hoop
103's climber
A "flag" rotated up by a window motor

People put all sorts of stuff on their blockers (mostly team logos by using a t-shirt). 2495 put a troll face on theirs.

1391, 1626, 2495, 103, 433, 4285, and maybe some other teams I'm forgetting all built extendable blockers to contend with us and 303 at MAR champs. Some were stronger than others; 2495's and 433's were pretty beat up by the end of the match, though they were still blocking shots.

Team 558 proved themselves to be a very good full-court blocker at the CT Regional. Their shield is retractable, so they can block above 60", but still go anywhere on the field. They also have a drivetrain that will stand up to just about anything. This video shows them neutralizing 195 very effectively.

At south florida several teams specifically made last minute "SPAM Filters" as we love to call them. The best in my opinion was O.S.C.A.R. with their T-Shirt wall. Plus we built a rookie team a robot at the event just to be a full court/Bacon(1902) blocker.

And to any team that does use a wall against 180 SPAM, I will personally add a sticker to your robot that says "Approved SPAM Filter". I'm printing off 100s to get mentor approval as I type.

This match was quite exciting for us too.

Especially great was how 225 seemed to have absolutely no hard feelings towards us and commended us on how we all did/friendly banter was had on the way back to the pits.

teams dont realize how detrimental just a pole is to fcs. At crossroads, we were blocked by a robot that just used a pole. Prevented us from getting vision solutions, luckily when we arent getting solutions, we resort back to the last one.

Many teams are great at blocking, but their blocker is high, and so we are able to still get vision solutions, so if for a second we are able to shoot, we are locked on and ready.

Well our pole wasn't used for vision blocking, just normal blocking.

We blocked 2169 enough to win against them in qualifying matches. When we picked them for our alliance and prevented others from blocking them it was ridiculously effective to the tune of 200+ points...

I had an idea.
A 60'' robot attaches a white disk at the start of match to it's blocker, vertically aligned.
This will give them a blocking height of about 70'', while they are still able to cross half field. Is that correct?
Is there anything you guys think that makes this illegal?

You have good memory and a good eye. Our blocker is exactly 80" tall when deployed. When stowed away, our robot can go under the pyramid. We used it effectively against tall FCS where 60" tall robots cannot block. We also do not need to be too close to the FCS so we don't get penalties.

This turned out quite well, blocking an estimated 13 Frisbees!

We did not block because we were a shooting team... however, at 10K lakes we brought block tech with use to mount on alliance members' robot for the elims... It was pretty effective until their drive train threw a chain...

We mounted a fan with a Mini CIM to their bot... We didn't end up facing any full court shooters so it could not be utilized fully...

It worked well..

I can't find a video of our Semi Finals matches... but that is where it worked best...

I agree, 1511 did a quite good job. They also had the added feature that their blocker was built into their robot and quite robust. Other teams (1100, in particular) had a problem with the err...reliability so to speak of their blocker. I do not have a match video but I will post it as soon as I find it.
