Hey I know some teams name their robot or have funny mottos. I would like to know some of the other teams names or mottos.
Our robot is cleverly named by our programers "Crackalackin Metal Gear Kitten Running Homeslise". This is because they are all fans(obsessed) with the Metal Gear Solid series and cats/snails(from Spongebob) and the other stuff I really have no idea.
As for our mottos, we have three
-Don't brake anything.:D
-Don't suck.::rtm::
-#notlast.
Most of these are from our (in)genius mentor Lordship Bacon. :]

Not a robot name or motto, but a team name itself. Team 4008, "Theodore Roosevelt's Disco Haircut."
Our robot name is B-2.
We have a motto, but no one ever quotes it or anything.
We went a little....adventurous with our robots name this year:
W1N5T0N Woodrow Norbert YOLOtron Humphrey 5th, esq.
We call him YOLOtron for short. Our practice bots name is YOLOtronica.
With a name like that, we of course use the "YOLO" team motto but the perfect formula for our team is "YOLO Kaizen". We balance being process oriented vs. thinking on our feet to take advantage of opportunities.
Also, there's "Small Force, Big Leverage".

For our first 3 years, we had robots that were named like Knights (Sir Lancelot, Sir Galahad, and for some reason Sir Robin, and then this year we just took a way different approach and named our robot Big Mike after Michael Oher, because our 6 CIM drivetrain could at times push 2 robots at once.

The students name the robots after a mentor or parent booster each year.
I'm sure the students have some of their own catch phrases or mottos, some I hear and some I don't. But I'm sure they would all agree that one I say all the time is
"Do you know how much that costs?"
Usually this is said after someone drops something or uses something expensive for a prototype.
Our robot's name is SphinX (http://edgpatterson.deviantart.com/art/SphinX-Logo-349512390?q=gallery%3Aedgpatterson&qo=5) and our theme is FIRST Pyramid of Success (http://edgpatterson.deviantart.com/art/FIRST-Pyramid-of-Success-347052161?q=gallery%3Aedgpatterson&qo=7).

Our robot's name this year: "The Ultimate Scent"

Our robot acquires a name as the build season progresses. Normally it has something to do with our team name though.
The current robot is named W-Ham-O.
The team Motto is "Where Pigs Fly."

Motto: Cogito ergo robots. (I doubt most of the team knows this, but kids picked it back in 2007).
1551 robot names don't follow much of a pattern, though since noticing that our robots with female names do better than robots with male names, all of our robots are female. (This year, she's Isis.)

4334's current robot is named Murdock. While filming our Chairman's video, my answer to the motto question was "student driven simplicity".

We have a four syllable, female, name for each of our robots.
This year we named her Persephone... which means "bringer of destruction". Some of the other students have been calling our practice robot; Hades.
Typically the bot is named after old woman names, but this year we went with Reptar, after somebody on our team said that our pneumatic passive climber looked like a dinosaur

Our robot is called "The Killer Rabbot"
Our team has a Monty Python and the Holy Grail theme. Each year, we name our robot after a different character from the movie. Also, we dress up like King Arthur and the Black Knight, but the killer rabbit is really our team's mascot all the time.

Two bunnies in the same division...at least a bunny and a killer rabbit. We named ours Cyber Bunny because the student drawn logo has a cybernetic eye. How strange it is going to be if we are side by side in the pits!!!

Our Theme - "Radical Impact" - √Impact
Robot - Omicron - our 15th year and Omicron is the Greek 15 - Ο.
Our (Haywire, 1569) robot is called Valkyrie and our practice bot was Captain Sidewinder. Unofficially our logo is "It's good enough." because that's all we said while building our practice bot.

Our robot name is Audrey, after the monster from The Little Shop Of Horrors.
Our official motto on TBA is "Don't disturb the sacred geometry". Nobody knows how this came to be our team motto...

Nice. I think that will be our first time being with another rabbit-y team. We'll have to trade some rabbit-wear. Ours have bloody teeth! We can have a rabbit mascot throwdown too!

SPAM's motto is : "Not your mother's Luncheon Meat"
The robot's name (after much debate) is Chomper from the land before time. Our practice bot is Chompette. We almost named him Quadle til a mentor went and looked it up, even after we thought it was a made up word.
Our robot is called Inigo Montoya and the practice bot is called Princess Buttercup.
Our 2013 robot is named The Juice and our motto is: "better than last year" also our team mascot is named Smokey the Motor

1912's robot this year is Hammerhead.
The name comes either from the game or a fire theme and is voted upon by the students.
Our motto is "Spreading the Wildfire"

I'm on team mean machine, This year the owner of a local hardwear store mentioned the name Oddjob and it stuck. Now we think that every robot will be named after an evil villan to match the team name.
Our 2013 Robot:

Fans of Little Brother? :D
Our main robot this year was named "Ratchet" and our practice named "Clank."
Our previous robot's names have nothing to do with each other, and range from "Th Burd" to "Queen Hannah's Revenge" to "Heather"
To rally up our team, some one yells "Where's the battery!?!?" where everyone yells back "AAAAAAAYYYY."
Previous motto: "But it worked in Inventor!"

Our Team name is "Builders of Tomorrow" (aka BOT) and
the team motto is " A mind is a terrible thing to waste, so waste it on
robotics" But lately we've been thinking of rebranding ourselves with
something different.
One of the unoffical motto's the students started to use is
"It don't have to be pretty, it just has to work"
I guess they got to saying that since i kept saying it so
much during built season.
This years robot name is "Secretariat" mostly after the
Craig Ferguson Late Late Show comedic Horse bit and
a little after the famous Triple Crown race horse of the same
name since our school mascot is a Bronco.

We are the Cool GEeks.
We have two mottos:
1) We're the coolest geeks you'll ever meet.
2) There are 10 kinds of people in this world: us Cool Geeks and those who have no idea what we're talking about.
....you really don't know binary, do you?

Since 2815 is sponsored by the University of South Carolina (http://sc.edu/), the robot has always been named after its mascot, the gamecock. From newest to oldest, Cocket Launcher, Incocknito, Cockasaurus Rex, CockADoodleDoo, Cocked & Loaded.
(Judge advisors have historically made it far too obvious when we're about to get an award; the award citation almost always has "Cocky (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cocky_(mascot))" worked in.)
The motto that seems to have stuck recently is #WinAnyway (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/photos/37965?), lovingly stolen borrowed from our back-to-back College World Series champion baseball team. We've had worse.

For the last couple years, our robots have been named after stars-- last year was Antares, this year was Betelgeuse.
Our team's motto is "Lighting up Robotics!"
We're the team that plasters blue LEDs on everything. We actually have a specific group in our electronics team devoted to lighting things up. This year they created some nifty wristbands and light-up safety glasses (don't worry, they're still functional!).

Our robot has been named Big MO for a very long time, to the point where people were mistaking it for our team name (it helped that that was what was on our shirts), and this year when our shirts said our actual name, Megatron Oracles, on them instead of Big MO, no one really remembered who we were until we told them big MO lol.
we have two mottos for our team, one is "Building future leaders of tomorrow" and the other is "Work hard, play harder, but above all, be committed to excellence"

We typically name our robots something clever that highlights a feature of the robot or the game. Starting in 2006:
DaNazbot I don't know the origins of that name
Ringmaster was for Rack and Roll
Rolling Thunder had a "cannon"
Thy Grinder had a horrible grinding sound making turret
Cpt. Ahab and Ahab V2 IRI edition because they had hooks
Gridzilla with the grid
Starscream aka the Appendage
The Pizza Box cause it's awesome.
Official team motto is driven to succeed, unofficial is shafty

Clearly DaNazbot was an homage to Jim Nazworthy. I may have to start calling him that.

Team 587 makes use of a standardized name scheme... it is the nicknames that count.
Logo Motion - Kevin - born of a striking resemblance to the bird 'kevin' in pixar's UP
Rebound rumble - CJ - cant jump... 'cus white boy cant jump but he sure can shoot
Ultimate ascent - Willie Climb - wasnt that just our question of the season... ;)

Our robot typically is named after a mechanical/programming program we had during build. 2011 was Twitch, 2012 was Derp (It had a little derpy arm that tried to move the bridge down), and 2013 was Ratchet (We lost one in the robot at one point) or Chatterbox (motors would chatter when idle) depending on who you talk to.
Our robot's name is He-Man, The Most Powerful Robot in The Universe! Our practice bot was Adam, Prince of Eternia!
our team moto is "never give up" and are mascot is the frog, therefore our robot this year is named robofrog. our team name Is WhoC'tecks. the way that we came up with this is our school name "Housatonic or Housy for short "Which gave us the whoC' then tecks came for technology.
The motto our team adopted this year eas "Just good enough". The task at hand was tough, the build season growing shorter. So, as we went along the fabrication path the motto came to be used more an more. It may not be fancy but it's "just good enough."
So far, our robots have been named for one word, female name, rock song titles.
2012 - Roxanne
2013 - Lola
We'll see if the tradition sticks?

18-04-2013, 21:39
Our naming trend for the past couple years has been starting with a letter to eventually spell out DRAGON (as in the Mech Tech Dragons). So far we have:
Dante
Redemption
Ahab
Geoffrey
Orion
Nidhoggr
This year's robot, Nidhoggr (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%C3%AD%C3%B0h%C3%B6ggr) (pronounced Nid-Hog), is a dragon who eats the World Tree in Norse mythology.
Not sure what we'll do next year though, since this trend's ending this year!

4531's motto: "Quid faceres si non timeret?" or "What would you do if you did not fear?"
Our robot's name is "Sir Angst-A-Lot" and our second robot's name is "Lady Something-Or-Other" :)

Our motto this year is "Welcome to the Vortex. Resistance is Futile." This was coined by a few of our mentors who described the irresistible pull of FIRST and TechBrick Robotics as "the vortex"... our team name helped us to come up with the rest. We've found many applications for the slogan.
Our 2013 robot is named Kelvin. It helps to tie together our lengthy team name in a concise and cool (no pun intended) statement. ;)
2067's robot names
2013: Zippy
2012: Mantis
2011: Littlefoot
I don't know what our names were before then, though :P

Our robot's name is always a variation of SAM. It's a dual acronym for:
- Small And Mighty (our team motto), and
- Salem's Awesome Machine (we're located in Salem County, NJ)
Our motto is based on the fact that being located in a more rural area, we tend to have a smaller number of students than many. Nevertheless, we remain a competitive, award-winning team.
Usually the robot name is also based off of robot functionality. Here's our current and some of our past robot names:
2013 - Sure Shot SAM - Because when we shoot, we intend to score :D
2012 - Sam Swoosh - Our favorite sound that year
2011 - Sam Shark - Our pickup mechanism this year snapped up the tube quickly, and made some of the team members think of a shark.

Since we are The GreenVillains, and outreach is a major part of our team, our motto is "Infiltrating Young Minds One Robot at a Time".
As for our robot name, this year we were planning of having a pyramid climbing robot with a series of hooks attached to two chains. Because of this, a lot of people wanted to name the robot Two Chainz. We ended up not naming the robot that, half due to Two Chainz explicit music, and half due to the fact that we had to remove our 30 point climber before competition :(
We ended up naming the robot "Captain Hooks" after out 10 point hang system. We are thinking of naming all of our robots after villains now to continue with the GreenVillain theme.
Jacob Bendicksen

We always build a prototype and competition robot simultaneously (other than the prototype being a week and a half ahead of the competition bot), so their names always play off of each other.
This year we had Dante (the prototype) and Inferno (competition bot).

Team 587's robot is called Willie Climb because it was the question of the season if the robot would climb

2013 was Ratchet (We lost one in the robot at one point) or Chatterbox (motors would chatter when idle) depending on who you talk to.
Same here! Depending on who you talked to, our robot's name was either Tron(as it has LEDs and throws discs) or Lucario (for its resemblance to the blue Pokemon):D
Our robot is named "Serenity". No particular reason, it was the best out of all the other options. I like it because it shows there's more to our gameplay than ramming into things and shooting fast projectiles (disks, nothing to worry about... yet).
Our team motto is from the days of old (i.e. 2010 or prior): "We will Graciously and Professionally Spike you"

My team, STORM Robotics, names their robot every year like the weather stations name storms (alphabetically and by reversing gender). For example, during breakaway our robot was named Brave Beckham. Then it was Crimson Claw during logomotion and last year it was Donald Duct.
This year it was an E and a female so 2729's robot name is Electra!
Also our team motto is: "Fall 27 times, Stand up 29."
Our team motto as of last year: "Building Engineers One Robot at a Time"
Befor that it was "Soaring With The Eagles"
Our robot names usually have something to do with the robot's characteristics.
2010: Rex (a student named it "Kicka$$asauras Rex", like a dinasaur)
2011: Jack (robust design, Quality award winner, annoucer said "It could double as a floor jack for Dean Kamen's Hummer", we named it after comp.)
2012: Arty (as in artillery: shooting balls at great distances)
2013: Sherman (as in sherman tank, it was 120.00 lbs even at weigh in)
Other fun facts:
Our team name is "Bonny Eagle Robotics Team"
(associated with Bonny Eagle High School, Standish Maine)
Nicknames we use "BERT" or "BERT 133" or "B.E.R.T."
Our logo was created by the students in 2010-2011, a Scottish eagle/coat of arms. We've adjusted the logo a little every year since for the tshirts and advertising, but keeping the over all concept for continuity.
Team 1923 has named their robot "Ro-BART" this year, in honor of a team parent and mentor who passed this year - my dad.
They will be honoring him at the Championship (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1264439&postcount=1) this year, and it means so much to me and to my family.

1625 has had a variety of names over the years!
2009: Snuggles
2010: Little Bridges
2011: Mr. Cringerpants
2012: Esmeralda the Cycloptic T-Rex Boxer
and 2013: Dale (In honor of our EXTREMELY supportive sponsor, Dale Falconer, who recently fell very ill.)
Our motto has bounced around from time to time, but I think the one we all agree on is: "In theory, it should work."

I guess MARS is kind of boring with their robot names.
08- Marvin I
09- Marvin II
10- Marvin III
11- Marvin IV (Beta and Alpha)
12- MarVin (Beta and Alpha)
13- MarVIn (Beta and Alpha)
Right before we traveled to our first (FIRST) competition our rookie year, a newspaper reporter asked us what the robot's name was while he was taking pictures in the machine shop. We had to come up with a name quickly, someone thought of Marvin Martian, and the name just stuck through all these years.
We've had some interesting practice robots and donated robots from folded teams in the area, including
Kick-me
Sparky (the one that caught fire)
Dumbot (our rookie year version of a practice bot)
Smartbot
ParadeBot (aka Marvin from our team logo) - Featured in the children's storybook "Marvin the Friendly Robot. He likes to play soccer, eat nuts and bolts, and sometimes he gets hurt, but his friends help him get better :D
We did an off-season intra-team competition a while back, where the robots were Phobos and Diemos. I think we had similar names for our minibots in 2011, but I can't remember.
While not necessarily a robot name, we named a particular part of our robot last year the "MARS Probes" because they "probed" a ball out of a corner.
In my opinion, our motto is pretty unique.
"We came to be inspired. We stay because we are. We will become the inspiration." It was slightly modified and used in the script when our mentor won the CMP WFA last year :')
Team motto: Temptest Fuget (or Time flies if you don't speak latin)
Robot Names
2006: Stealth
2007: Stealth 2.0
2008: Stealth 3.0
2009: Stealth 4.0
2010: Stealth 5.0
(I bet you can't guess what our team name is)
2011: Audrey-after a student that passed away during the season
2012: Laurence-A sponsor who had be donating to us since 2006 had passed away. We decided to honor him by naming the robot after him. He is sorely missed by the mentors and alumni mentors on the team.
2013: Earnie(unofficially, the name was never added to the robot) This was based after my father, who the students absolutely adore, for letting us take over his mancave and shop for all of build season.
Our team (Team 2485) name is the "W.A.R. Lords" so we name each of our robots after a War Lord. This year we named our robot after Sun Tzu, Chinese General and author of the Art of War.

This year our team dedicated our robot's name to Kim Buckner, a beloved sister of our mentor and aunt to members on our team. She passed away the Friday morning of qualifying matches at SMR. We hope to make her proud this year in St. Louis!
Our team's motto's are:
-Glowing with Gracious Professionalism
-Passionately, Pursuing, Perfection to Catch Excellence

Our robot is always named with a Vegas theme, this year being The Dealer. We've also managed to incorporate a major sponsors name into a few robot names as well. pITTboss for ITT, and so forth.
As for the motto's, i can think of three that we love:
"How can we make this into a turret?"
"Is THIS your card?"
and the one that we prefer the most is "It's not enough".

FRC 1640 is team Sab-BOT-age, in honor of team founder Paul Sabatino.
Our robots are named DEWBOT followed by a roman numeral. DEWBOT stands for Downingtown East & West robot. Downingtown school district used to support our team. Our current robot is DEWBOT IX.
The team motto is "Think outside the 'BOT".

Our 2013 robot was originally named Murphy's Lawyer. We lost our first five matches at the Phoenix Regional. We changed the name to Stormageddon. We won our next eight matches.
Our practice robot was also Stormageddon. (We named it before we changed the competition robot's name.)
Our two Vex Toss Up robots were Kevin and Gary after two of our mentors.
Our NURC robot was named Tribble since the mission had a Star Trek theme.
Our 2012 FRC robot was named TiMMy after our sponsor TMM Precision.
Ours Robot name is Evil Jimmy
And We are the Jokers so our motto is "Your wining card" :)

One of the favorite joking phrases of my teams manufacturing group is:
Remember the three rules of American engineering:
1. Always use the right tool for the job.
2. A hammer is always the right tool for the job.
3. Anything can be used as a hammer.:D
For 451 we've tried to make our robot's name cat related recently. For 2013 our robot was CATalyst. As for mottos, "If you can't fix it with a hammer your'e thinking too hard." and "Don't give programmers shiny things." would both fit.

How have you not made use of the Fahrenheit 451 reference yet?
My team, Team 3950, is called RoboGym. Original members were pretty big fans of Dodgeball, so our first robot is named Me'Shell. The second robot is named Steve the Pirate. I'm not such a fan of this theme, but I wasn't on the team for the first season, and I was in Italy when the second robot was completed and named.

Our robot's name was reptar. It earned this after the first test of the pistons on our climbing arms. They slammed down, then back up again, over and over. The jerky movement of its tiny arms reminded us of a dinosaur, and so Reptar was born. The practice bot was known as reptard, by the way.
Kinda wished we had a cool name for our robot. but you can say our summer motto is "Hot-glue doesn't fix everything but duct tape does!"

2013 - Silverfish (They show up in inexplicable places where we work and are often the subject of discussion)
2012 - Immanis (Apparently some kind of killer spider)
2011 - Arm Bot (Yeah, we never got around to giving it a creative name)
2010 - Big Foot
2009 - Slippery Feet
2008 - Happy Feet
2007 - I don't remember, but it definitely had feet in it.
(I'm on the same team as the OP) 240's currently working on a little practice drive bot that got named the Hobbot. Since the thread got revived, I figured I'd share.
Also, our 2012 robot's name ended up being Sheogorath. Beast'n was a close second.

Each year, our robot is "The Hotbot" specified by the year. This year, we have revamped it completely as a new-team project for the off season, so we have "Hotbot13 v2.0"...I know...not too original, but our motto has always been: "My Bot Hot...My Bot Burn...My Bot on Fire!"
This year, with "v2.0" (and considering our "Chili Pepper" Icon) we've added the off-season motto "Twice the Spice!"

Typically my team names its robot something that just happens. Our Rookie year it was named "Sheldon", and I'm sure there was some story about it, but I don't know it.
Last year we named the robot "Kim", and dedicated it to the sister of our Lead Mentor (Mark Buckner, SMR Woodie Flowers 2013) who passed away during that same Smokey Mountain Regional. The award ceremony was very emotional, and we are all very grateful to Mark for continuing to be an excellent mentor while going through such a difficult time.

I am very sorry for his loss. Our condolences.
On a slightly more positive note, our team (Team 2647 - Cyborg Mustangs hence the username) has a couple of things we often end up saying:
-'to alexia': to use excessive force to complete a task, often by damaging components
-'safety third': 'not changing the robot design' and 'keeping the shop clean' are (jokingly) considered more important
-'would that be good enough for Carl Hayden?': connotes desiring more precision than has yet been achieved
-the word 'slingshot' cannot be uttered in the workshop, due to an ill-advised design attempt last year
-we have 'taco thursday': raises morale!

Well with our team it usually has to do with something that is unique about that robot. For example, for 2013 we used a lot of pop rivets, so we just named the robot rivet. But my favorite was for Rebound Rumble. One of the lead animators for Pixar (He worked a lot of Wall-e) came into our lab and gave a presentation. After that he signed our robot by drawing Wall-e on our shooter head, so we decided to name it Ball-e.

Our robots name is Babou this year (an archer reference) and it is water jetted into our frame but covered up by our intake roller. Whenever we deploy our intake, it becomes visible and our whole team can yell "Is that Babou!!!!"
If you watch the show you will think its great, otherwise not really. Still a cool name though

Last year's robot was named Paige after our Robovorski hamster (Robovorski's are usually called Robo Hamsters, hence the team name Robo Hamsters) lol
This year's robot is Paige 2. We came up with a funny "fuller name" for this year too, "Paige 2 - The Next Chapter". lol
http://www.petco.com/product/118347/Roborovski-Hamster.aspx
We use a boot-looking kicker to propel the playing piece, so 279's 2014 robot is named "Das Boot"
As far as motto's, it's more of a joke we tell the teams we're really good friends with...
"We'll see you on "Einstein!""
2013: Sherman (as in sherman tank, it was 120.00 lbs even at weigh in)
....
It's official, BERT's robot name for 2014 is "Pneuman".

For all the pneumatics on it this year, because we/they ususally don't use much pneumatics.. or any if possible.

Circuitrunners Team 1002s motto is "Move from Potential to Kinetic" and although we haven't named our robot yet, there is a funny backstory to our outreach robot's name.
In 2012, we had a turntable on our basketball shooter. Our robot weighed too much, so it had to go. That year's robot then got the name TRFKAT (The Robot Formerly Known As Turntable). Then, when we repurposed it as a t-shirt launcher this year, we renamed it to be TRFKAT^2 (The Robot Formerly Known As The Robot Formerly Known As Turntable).

We avoided pneumatics for years, because we didn't know what we were doing and were afraid of messing up our whole season. We played with them as an off-season project and came to the conclusion that, um, yeah, everyone should have pneumatics in their wheelhouse when they're brainstorming, prototyping, and planning. Congrats on taking the plunge!

We named our robot Charles Darwin this year. We always name the robot after someone who made a large contribution to a STEM field.
Also because we can call the robot Chuck, which is tragically ironic because the only thing we can't do this year is throw the ball...

Team 3512 always names our robots after Greek or Roman history.
2011 Thermopylae (the battle depicted in the movie 300), Thermo for short.
2012 Leonidas (Spartan King who lead the battle of Thermopylae), Leo for short
2013 Cynisca (a Greek princess of Sparta, the first woman to win at the ancient Olympic Games.)

In 2011 our robot's name was "Nessie" because it kind of resembled the Loch-ness monster
2012 was the year of "Buzz LightGear" because of the buzzing noise its shooter made, and the large (but light) sheetmetal gear we used to turn the turret
2013 was named "Brodie" after the self proclaimed Frisbee Trick Shot Specialist (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLbz0X_7waU)
We named several of our tools in the lab: for example, our deburring knives are Deborah, and Debbie (it is a sin to not know who is who), and our rubber mallet is called "the 12% mallet" because someone wrote "1296" on it in sharpie in such a way that the 96 looked like a % and our programmer mistook it.
Our motto is simply "drive it like you stole it"

This year we named our robot TigerLily( Tily for short ) because our mascot is a tiger and tiger Lilies are orange flowers that look like they have Tiger Stripes.
Quote from a student on why its a good name" Because the name symbols our beauty and how fierce we are in competition"
Last year competition robot was Willow because our drive thought it looked like the whale from Whale Trail. The practice bot was Odwalla. Our motto is "Girls Engineering Tomorrow."

We haven't come up with a name for this years robot(Although I know most of the team wants to name it OMNOMNOM), but our team motto has always been "Think Outside The 'Bots". As for past robots, here is the list I found:

2008 -Turbo Talon
2009 -The Hulk
2010 -Technosaurus Rex
2011 -Loki a.k.a: "The Game"
2012 -Air Thordan

2012- Floemotion
Our principal's name is Mr. Floe so we decided to name it after him
2013- !Paul (not Paul)
I randomly dubbed the practice robot pail, but people got the practice robot's and the robot's names mixed up because the practice robot didn't have a name. Finally one team member decided to clear it all up and said that the practice robot was Paul and the real robot was !Paul.
2014- G.i.b.b.s.
GiBBS is the Ground Based Ball Sucker, we named all the prototype collection systems (clamshell, bulldozer, etc.) and this was just the best name we came up with for a collection system that compresses balls between the ground and something (rollers, wheels, etc.) and we liked it so it stuck.

Our robot is named SYRUP:
Santa Ynez Robotics Ultimate Program. Our president came up with the acronym and we wanted an excuse to use it.
Our only current motto is: #QuinnSucks. Quinn is our president and this has somehow become a running joke where we use our label maker to stick it everywhere (Quinn does not actually suck).
Thanks, it wasn't my decision though, I just drop by and help out the team on occasion.
Yes we've been avoiding pneumatics for years because of the weight and time it takes to charge tanks for thier specific purposes.
I think this game is a good fit for pneumatics becuase alliances are only handling one ball at a time during teleop, so there *should* be time to keep the air tanks full for thier next function.
Good luck everyone!!

Considering how our team leader moved to a different school last year... And none of our programming is working... Team #2603's current motto is:
"Nothing is working and we don't know why"
The Robodox are "Engineering a Brighter Future".
Nearly all of our robot names have been doctors. We don't talk about 2007...
2014 - Anesthesiologist
2013 - Medic
2012 - Radiologist
2011 - Chiropractor (and the mini-bot "The Adjustment")
2010 - Cardiologist
2009 - Neurologist
2008 - Physician
2007 - <Default>
2006 - Dermatologist
2005 - Psychologist
2004 - Dentist
2003 - Therapist
2002 - Surgeon, M.D.
2001 - D.O.C.T.O.R

Since we changed our name to Dragon Robotics a few years ago, all of our robots have been named after dragons. This year, we chose "Maleficent," upsetting many of those who had pushed for "Shyvana". They have therefore taken to calling the robot "Not Shyvana," much to our head mentor's chagrin. They made a label for it and stuck it on the practice bot. Our mentor promptly removed it, but a student recovered it and stuck it on one of our batteries, so the battery was called "Not Shyvana" until our mentor removed that one, too. We recently bought a new tool cart, so some have begun suggesting that we name the cart "Not Shyvana".
Our team motto is "Make it pretty," the logic being that if something doesn't look well-put-together, it's probably not. Some of my teammates make fun of the motto and suggest putting ribbons and lace on the robot.

Last year, during the FRC build season, we kept drilling and assembling and disassembling and reassembling and measuring and marking and disassembling and reassembling, etc. the same pieces over and over again. when the frame was finally level, we put it in a corner. When we took it out the next day, it wasn't level. I said that gnomes probably came in the middle of the night and tampered with the frame, and the teammate who was working on the frame with me decided they were Russian (I don't know why). From then on, whenever something that was supposed to go right went wrong, we blamed the "Russian gnomes". Thus, this year, we named our FTC robot "Russian Gnome".

That ONE Team is an acronym for "Our Next Engineers", our motto is "Playing the water game since 2013". Since we live in Michigan, water is an important resource, and we are dedicated to service projects involving water.
Our robot is fondly called "Tater". The acronym of our team name is TOT, and thus Tater TOT seemed to be a perfect fit. :D
Our motto is "Created to Create".
Since we are a Christian school we have included a book of the Bible, usually referring to an aspect of build, in the robot name as well as an alternate nickname.
Rookie Year (2013) - Genesis AKA Carl (Genesis refers to it being our first robot :D)
2014 - "Leviticus AKA Leviathan" (Leviticus because several times we had to change our design because the rules didn't permit it and Leviticus is the book of the law :yikes:)

Team 2408's robot's name this year is b.O.s.s. (Big Ol' Sphere Slinger). Unfortunately, we weren't able to vote on a name this year.
Personally, I hate to say it, but the name sounds too generic to me. Oh well, rather not waste time on names.
Team 716 The Who'sCTEKS. We are based out of Housatonic Valley Regional High School.
Housatonic = Who'sCTEKS
We have a question mark on our shirts.
Housatonic = Who'sCTEKS = ? (see what we did there)
Our robot name is. Questionable Solution?
And our motto is "Be The Frog". Listen why.
Picture if you will a bird. A Great Heron as a matter of fact. And a frog. The Great Heron is higher up on the food chain than the frog. The Great Heron you could say is similar to the larger teams in FIRST, always on top of their game. Our team is small, we are the frog. So here is the visual, the Great Heron tries to eat the frog head first but the frog takes his two front arms and grabs the Great Heron buy the throat hence denying him of his meal else he dies trying to swallow the frog.
The frog Never EVER gives up. "Be The Frog"

Last year we wanted to name our robot Beyonce but we picked "The Butcher" in reference to a certain League of Legends champion.
This year we went through a couple ideas, including Stefano (an alumni of our team), flappy bird, Beyonce again, and I think for awhile we were thinking about names like "Juggernaut" (Because we want to be #1 ;) ) and Invictus to sound edgy.
Ultimately we decided on Animal because it didn't really matter in the end.
Also our team has several slogans we put on sand which boards and parade around regionals. Some from last year were "Ducks of a feather waddle together" and "Hatching a brighter future"

I didn't see a team mate post ours so ...
I am unaware of previous robot names or mottoes but this years name has a story:
If you attended the Groton, CT District you know that we had a spring loaded catapult that was pulled back by a pneumatic cylinder and held in place by a 300# magnet that was mounted to a pancake cylinder to pull it from the catapult.
This magnet looked very much like the Arch Reactor. So when coming up with names for the bot we thought: "Iron Man" or "Tony Stark". Whule chewing on that one of the mentors called out "Robot Downey Jr." and we all died laughing so it stuck. We changed to 2 pneumatic cylinders to fire the catapult after Groton but the name stuck.
As many are aware, this years motto is: "truss and destroy".

That's hilarious, guys. It was an honor for GARE-E to take the field with Robert Downey Jr. in St. Louis.
That's right, our 2014 robot was named GARE-E (Globe Acquisition and Relay Engine - Earth class). It basically came about because of how snail-like it appeared when the shooter was up and the intake tucked in starting configuration. Brain storming snail inspired names naturally led to Sponge Bob's pet snail, Gary. We then roboticized it by combining that with WALL-E and developed the acnonymn to fit the game objective. We found it quite catchy and appropriate. Lol
In the past couple years we've tried to pick robot names relating to bulls... This year, we named it BullsEye (inspiration from this cheetos commercial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kp8clKYeCUU)).
Our current motto is from a retired mentor, "Nothing's impossible if you don't know it can't be done". We're thinking of revising it especially after this season's internal events and struggles (long story) to "One for all, all for one" though.

Well, Team 20's the Rocketeers... named after a sponsor who no longer sponsors us.
Our robot this year is called Eclipse... WHAT?
I don't know how that makes any sense, but if it means anything, I voted for launchpad.
I think "boxy" or "petunia" would have been more appropriate? Why petunia?
Because the method to open our catcher panels is called CatcherPanel.bloom().
Each year, a few days after build season ends, our team walks to Ben and Jerry's and names the robot after whoever is at the counter. This year, our robot's name is Kyle.

Every year our robot is a variation on Sam. This is because our official motto is Small and Mighty. This year our robot is SAMXV (it is our 15th year as a team)
Our unofficial motto is "Just because you can build it, doesn't mean you should"

Our robots name is Rosie. One of the few teams that has a robot that is referred to as a girl.
Our motto is "We Can Do It"
Our unofficial motto however is, "Spread out so it looks like we have more people"
Since our strategy this year was called secret sauce, we wanted robot names that were condiment-based.
Competition robot: Hot Sauce
Practice robot: Not Sauce
We had trouble coming up with an official motto for this year, so one of the students just said, "Robots, amirite?" and it stuck.
Sorry if someone else from my team has already posted!
This year we tried to have a poll/vote for our robots name, and most of them were so outrageous they weren't even counted. We decided on Sonic the Hedgebot (affectionately called Hoodgeboodge) due to its speed and blue "spikes" (which were later made shorter) when one of our mentors noted it. Which is why almost all our videos this year included music from the Sonic games.
I don't think we have an official team motto, besides "Robots From The Grove", but we do have a lot of catchphrases.
