Game Manual - Team UPDATE - 2013-04-23
Game Manual
There will be no change to the value of CLIMBING at the FIRST Championship, as mentioned in Section 3.1.5.2 (http://frc-manual.usfirst.org/viewItem/180#3.1.5.2).
Good luck to all Teams competing at the FIRST Championship!
No climbing point value change!
As it should be.
Let the games begin...
I don't know why anyone would have expected there to be a change at this point.

I don't know why anyone would have expected there to be a change at this point.
In the manual(since last year, probably due to controversy/debate over minibot point structure), there is a clause/blue box that says the GDC can change climb values by up to ten points prior to Championships. This is just confirmation that the GDC chose not to.
I wonder what scenarios they had envisioned that would prompt them to change the climbing values? I had a small amount of concern that the high disc scores we've seen this year would lead to an upward revision in the points awarded for climbing to level 2 and 3.
There would have been a gigantic uproar had they decided to :P

Especially today. Last week, not so much.

I think they only would have changed it if extremely few teams were able to pull one off or the teams who were able to climb ditched it score discs.
I know a lot of teams have ditched their 30 point climber to focus on a quick 10/shoot more discs or settle for 20 but the teams that still climb to 30 is enough to keep the point values justified.

They were just preparing to change point values in case 2011 reared its ugly head.

Back when many people thought 200+ scores would be common-sight at MSC and MAR Champs, a 50pt pyramid scorer would be way undervalued in proportion to the difficulty and time it would involve. But with match averages being much lower than 200 (more like around 150 on the highest of stages), 50pts is right around par with what it should be.
Good job GDC. I was initially a little worried when they made the human player rule change Week 0 about the quality of this game, but it has turned out to be one of my favorites. Sooooo many different possible strategies and counter strategies. Just when you think it's predictable, something new happens.
