Looking forward to seeing all of these teams at the second annual Minnesota State High School League Championship! The event takes place on May 18th at Williams Arena on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities Campus.
I believe 2175 The Fighting Calculators will be live streaming the event here (http://fightingcalculators.org/webcast/).
We'll have three division alliance captains competing - 2169 Finalists on Galileo, 2512 Quarter finalists on Galileo and 2052 Quarter finalists on Newton. 2175 was the second pick for 2169 in the Galileo division at champs.

We are really looking forward to it! Hopefully it won't be 95 degrees inside this time. :) Since it's snowing today it seems unlikely, but you never know in Minnesota!
To clarify for those unfamiliar with the MN system, teams only earned qualifying points from their first Regional event.
Can't wait for the MN State Championship! 2705 will have a small group of students competing since it's the same day as our prom, it will still be fun! Can't wait to play against and with some of our favorite teams again!

And only the first 8 matches at that regional.

And only the first 8 matches at that regional.
Is that to equalize for regionals with more qualification matches?

They did their best to equalize things between regional events.
I'm looking forward to the event, like always... We get 4 hours Friday night this year to get everyone set up, radios encrypted, connected to the field, and inspected. Those are by far the most important things to do that friday night (more important than working on the robot!) There are no practice matches, so Saturday morning you'll be right into Quals, and need everything inspected and connected to make that happen!

Your team is choosing prom over State?!?!?!? :p
Out of the 26 students on our team I believe we'll have 5 or 6 that chose to go to State. I'm one of the only seniors that will be attending (of course I can't skip out on my last FIRST event as a student!)

2175's school also has Prom on that date. It is tricky, but most of us are choosing to do both . It will be interesting, but we plan to have at least 25 people there (mainly because most of our team is 9th/10th graders).

Just a friendly reminder to all teams attending:
Please remember to bring a water bottle, last year it was extremely warm in the arena and we do not want anyone to overheat or become dehydrated. Even if you think it is going to be a cool day outside please bring one just in case.

A quick reminder to all MN teams: States is a Bag and Tag event! If your team is on the list Wiifi posted, your robot should be in a bag right now (unless you happen to be using your 8 hours of unbag time right now, in which case stop reading CD and go work on the robot!)!
If you're reading this and realizing the robot sitting next to you isn't in a bag and hasn't been for a while, it's an issue. Let myself or Mark Lawrence know immediately if you have a Bag and Tag problem! It'll be an even bigger issue if you wait until loading in at States to let us know.
Do you have opportunities for demo's or sponsor visits in the next couple of weeks before States? Request a Bag and Tag exemption from myself or Mark Laurence ahead of time! Community outreach and sponsor relations are one of the most important aspects of FIRST, and we want to make sure that every team can have their robot there if they need to, while still being compliant with all of the rules. If you take the robot out of the bag for demo's and exceed the unbag time without talking to us first, you'll have a problem when you load in!
I only bring this up to help everyone in Minnesota (especially me!) avoid Bag and Tag issues at States :)

Good luck to all teams there! 3081 is not competing this year but we are planning on showing up just to cheer on everyone else! It was super fun and intense last year and we know it will be just is fun this year! :D
Just some fun irony:
Last year: Competed at state. Prom was on the same day.
This year: Will not be competing at state. Prom is a week earlier.
Hmmmm... I think Bloomington should schedule prom on the same day as the MSHSL championship again! :p

Ok, so here's the deal, our team (2512) is trying to put together a scouting sheet for everyone to use much like the ones that were put together for the divisions at worlds. We have created a google docs spreadsheet for anyone to edit and contribute to. All we are asking is that you post reliable data and not just your best guess. It doesn't have to be for just your team either, so if you know any data for other teams you have competed with add that in as well! So, the goal is to fill up this entire sheet with the proper data before the 17th.
HERE IS THE LINK (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtxrQSErrYQVdGRSUmd3R0lxYm41eXF2Z3BKQlJKW nc&usp=sharing)
Thanks for all your help and see you guys at state!

2 of the best FCS (in my opinion) will be here, if a team doesn't have FCS blocker I will be surprised.
Elimination prediction: (I may be biased)
Alliances
2512 - 2705 - 1816 (Semi-Finalists)
2052 - 2220 - 3313 (MN Champions)
2169 - 2177 - 3276 (Finalists)
2175 - 2502 - 2538 (Semi-Finalists)
I do not see a FCS winning as long as the winning alliance has a good defensive bot and 2 good cyclers.
Disclaimer: These are complete guesses, I have not used any data whatsoever to make my choices.

Really wish our team would have made it again to try and defend the title. Last year was my Sr. year on the team and it was an amazing way to end my 2 years (team started my Jr. year) as a student member of the team, but could not stay away from the team and came back to help out when I was not in college classes. Hope to get there and be able to watch more then a couple matches and not be stuck in the pits or behind the glass. 2175 if you guys end up winning its because of the velcro our team lent you at North Star, it was only because of your teams batteries last year that we were able to take home the victory!

I am exceedingly amused by those predictions; though it would be nice to team up with KnightKrawler again and our friends in Alexandria!
Also, I'm exceedingly afraid of KING TeC if their FCS is performing like it was in their last match on Galileo.
the biggest problem i see with the predictions is that i find it hard to believe none of the captains to pic each other

I agree, assuming those first 4 teams are captains I think one may pick another... In any case I'm thrilled to see we were picked as the winner :)

This is definitely true. With supposedly 8 matches being played in 4 hours there will be almost no time in between matches. I expect any team that does not think they are in the elite scoring category to use their 8 hours to develop a 60", or 84" blocker and just leave it on their bot. With so little prep time in between matches any alliance that finds itself against one of those 2 FCS in quals without a blocker will find it VERY tough to beat them. It would also make them look much more attractive come alliance sections.

Since you brought this up... 30 teams means every team will be playing every 5th match, on average. This means that between getting off the field and going back on, on average there will be only 4 matches. Going on the regionals and champs, we can expect match time to be 7 minutes or less - in other words, there will, on average, be just under half an hour between matches. Some times it may be quicker, other times longer.
Regardless, how many teams coming to Champs are still swapping between two completely separate set of red/blue bumpers, and how long does it take for you to swap? Last year this was an issue for a few teams. I hope teams are looking at it, and planning accordingly!

For 2175's robot, it is expected to be in our shop tomorrow (5/9/13), so maybe tomorrow or Friday for Duluth? We got a FedEX tracking number, so one of our mentors knows the exact details.

While I didn't talk directly to the shipping guys myself, I heard from another team that they were given an estimate of 4-6 weeks for shipping the robot back. I know several teams opted to ship an empty crate back and take the robot home with them on their bus (at least, that was their plan), in order to make sure they would have it in time to use the 8 hours of unbag time and be ready for States.
Jon Stratis

I just got word that at least 2 MN teams have received their robot crates back already. The crates are released 1-2 truck-loads per day, so there's could be little correlation between teams in an area... it could be dependent on which division you were in, or on a random order they were loaded into the warehouse from champs. One would hope they would be organized so all the robots from an area (like MN) would ship out at once, but I wouldn't necessarily count on it.

We got ours last week.

For future reference, if you would like to bring your robot home from Champs rather than shipping it, you can request a shipping exemption from FIRST (instructions were included with one of the weekly email blasts). We did this with the explanation that we wanted to be sure it would be back in time for the MN State Championship (and have adequate time to use our 8 hrs) and FIRST immediately approved it.
I hope all robots make it home safely and quickly!

Challenge accepted.
Minnesota had a very good record this year when it comes to match cycle times. I believe that our regionals were all consistently around 7-8 minute cycle times, and we frequently found ourselves ahead of schedule.

Update on the live stream of the event: the webcast will be found at www.prep45.com, the official web partner of the MSHSL.
The webcast is slated to start at 8:30am central time for opening ceremonies.
Team 3130 is eagerly waiting, and no matter the outcome is expecting a good time. We are also looking forward to seeing what all the teams did in their 8 hours of unbagged robot time, we know 2175 was hard at work (they share our workshop)! :)

On behalf of 2175, we would like 2052 KnightKrawler and 4607 Becker Robotics, for being apart of this great alliance. It was a blast!
The Two Harbors High School prom is also on the day of State. A few of our members will not be there, I don't know how many yet but it might be a large part of our team like last year.
