does anyone know of any effective videos or guides for learning how to program an NXT. My team doesn't find the how to from the NXT software effective.

There is a ton of information on the web.

Oregon Robotics (http://www.stemcentric.com/nxt-tutorial/) has a good tutorial

And there are many others if you search. forums.usfirst.org (http://forums.usfirst.org) has a very helpful FLL coaches community and is a good place to ask NXT-specific questions.
