Just a random thing I got linked to today that I thought might be of some value to teaching students gear ratios.

It appears that the original site went down (too many CDers using it perhaps? :D ) so I mirrored it on my own server at http://socaldevs.com/gearsketch
The only difference is that I added a link to the open source license according to the terms of redistribution included with the license.
